Are you getting these all from the same Twitter or something, OP?

Feels like it's been months since we had one of these threads.

imagine growing up in a house like that... it always reminds me of ichigo mashimaro.

Why does modern life have to suck?

Nice cars.

A weird picture in a way. Run-down, slightly dodgy infrastructure, I kept staring at it and realised my eye was looking for litter that wasn't there.
>>
>>50610092
also what are those people doing there?
>>
>>50610092
>>50610387
Onsen town, I think. Unless it's some major tourist trap, most of them look like that
>>
>>50605404
God imagine the smell
>>
>>50605404
In Persona 5 the apartment the main character lives in is inside this weird alley that has a bunch of small houses, shops, and a clinic. Is there a name for these alley districts, or and I just "thing: Japan"ing a city block?

amazing

Very Interesting, to be fair that place appeared to be a sewer. They also cook in there
>>

It's amazing how beautiful this image and many others in this thread are. Even when run down and inelegant, the streets and sidewalks are still cleaned and maintained. The architecture is still cozy, aesthetically pleasing, and culturally unified. There isn't a crackhead every 5 meters.

I guess the closest examples would be an American suburb or UK village, but the (((powers-that-be))) are desperate to ruin those as well.

we got older, and the world became more boring
seeing old things makes us nostalgic
the things we like don’t feel as special anymore because they’ve become so widespread
it doesn’t feel like a united community anymore

Did Japanese people really walk past otaku shops like this? Like, I'm not delusional enough to think this was "normal", but I do imagine it existed frequently enough to have at least a few in every well-populated city.
>>

This one's a classic.

Non-glamorous is code word for raw and homely.

I want to live there and look at the trains pass.

Nah it genuinely got worse, culture is a horrific mess, everyone acts, dresses, and talks like rappers, economy and products are declining, censorship and Digital ID are rising. Hell, I wouldn't mind going back to 2016ish, that's how bad it is.
>>
>>50622517
Fuck it, I'll take a 2019 compared to now.

>>50612796

good photos fren, appreciate it :) If you could post more it would be great.
What do you miss the most? My dream is to visit Japan
>>
>>50625688
thats a great question... i wanted to go for over a decade before i got the chance. i loved the tranquility... its pretty peaceful there compared to where i come from. riding the train, just walking the streets at dusk with some nanachiki, a mitsuya cider, and a pack of seven stars. book off is a good time but you can spend a lot of money real quick. knowing the language definitely helps, especially outside tokyo, theres plenty of conversations to be had. i gave up on my dream for a long time until i got the opportunity to go for a few weeks with the military. hope to go again soon if im smiled upon. i wish you luck on going! and never forget blessings can come when least expected, i definitely gave up on my dream for many years until i enlisted. oh, and dont get too drunk, okay?
>>
>>50626279
Sure thanks for the advice :)
I intend to learn the language before going also. It's going to be a long journey but it will be worth it. There seem to be infinite things to explore in Japan, such a beautiful place.
>>
>>50626322
ohhhh im gonna run out of good ones at some point... i think this one captures a big feel of that tranquility. of course i was staying in a "small town" so take it as you will! good luck on learning, best i can say is get hiragana, katakana down, most useful 50 or so kanji, basic grammar and vocab, use the internet for language exchange, get comfortable, try your best, and the rest you will pick up. being over in country is an incredible motivator to get better, too. also plenty of japanese wanting to get better at english, its easier to learn through social situations than anything else, just dont get too hard on yourself. definitely lots to take in! no matter how long youre there, it wont be enough, i guess thats "part of the beauty" or something though
>>
>>
>>50626348
Definetely it's part of the beauty, thanks again for the tips and pictures :)
>>
>>50617332
They know you're "that" guy. For jp normies it's more like "I don't wanna touch poop". I don't think it might happen in a single store, but in otaku districts like Akibahara there's a constant stench of cigarettes and the streets are usually dirty.

Reminds me of this one place I found while strolling near Machiya station
>>
I love abandoned Game Centers from the 80s-90s, which are surprisingly rare because they get demolished most of the time.

awesome

i just get a feeling that this location has soul. i can express that here because we are all like minded and i'm not worried.
>>
>>50612567
not sure if it's exactly what you mean, but on my walks there's sometimes side streets with names that end in -dori/-doori that have this sort of alley feel with smaller shops/bars/homes
>>
I used to browse a Japan pictures thread years ago, along with that train cam thread. Idk why I decided to open /jp/ for the first time in forever, but seeing this kind of thread and looking at all the images brought back a good feeling.
>>
>>50638518
>side streets with names that end in -dori/-doori
Street names that end in "street", what a concept. Japan's done it again
>>
>>50616718
Gora Station (強羅駅) in Hakone.
I've been there, came down the way. I also ate the black sulfur onsen eggs from the top of the mountain, so I should live a bit longer desu
>>
>>50638862
lol well yeah but it's a certain type of street

are you me? after reading this thread I was going to post the exact same thing. I used to check those cam threads once a week, when I was a neet.
