Just dump excess armor and weapons from nefias into a shared box, and the citizens will arm themselves. What they don't equip I dump into for sale shelves/crates.

The only ones I really "custom gear up" are guards/self-propelled guns I assign to town entrances, fields, ranch pens, or busy areas to protect everyone else
(no I'm not going to fucking cheese enemy spawns by making a really tall tile near the corner with monsters or whatever, that's fucking bullshit)
I also like how they can now protect themselves if a monster ever gets through. I don't have to worry about random spawns now.

I dump food into the shared boxes too, so they all slowly level up over time. Looking forward to "schools" in Elin that can passively train my citizens even quicker.
I know it seems hip to mindlessly recruit NPCs and then power reroll their inventories and then sticking them into the hearth stone, but I really like town building, more than dungeon diving, so customizing my town is important to me.

Pic not related to Elin/Elona but I had to kind of distance myself with this kind of thinking because of my years spent RPing on Ragnarok Online and FFXIV. I tried (and failed many times) to create campaigns for my supposed friends at the time, and ultimately am now pretty much alone completely removed from RP and tabletops.

In my head, Elin is a replacement for this since it's single player, and I can just mindlessly accumulate resources and fight monsters without somebody constantly going to the Quicksand and picking up random low quality people to bring into the fold, so to speak.

That aside, I don't really engage with backer OCs like I'm RPing with them. Honestly I give them very little passing thought other than like (wow... she really called me a weakling?) in whatever thing I have focused on Elin. I do appreciate the added commentary with these characters though, since without the added context, they'd probably have little meaning to me like they do to the creators.

The problem comes from using Discord for most of this RP, and with the nature of asking questions and how others express their characters reminds me of those times, and generally puts me in a bad mindset. Guess after all these years I haven't really moved on, since I'm constantly paranoid about these former friends of mine invading this shell I've created for myself while trying to escape into this game. I made a resolution to try and be better this year, and maybe be a little more social, but it's 25 days into the new year and I'm thinking I'm cooked.

Depends on what you mean by this. I feel like to really get yourself out there with your character, you gotta follow Goldship's example and constantly post updates on how they're doing like a RP tumblr and get them out there any way possible just so they're always fresh in your memory in order to contribute to the tulpa. There's kind of been a severe lack of this lately, however, from everyone else, but it's probably because I've been shitting up these threads for months now and scared away all of the creative types onto any place but here.

Personally, I ran Permadeath a lot, and considered throwing my hat in that sort of ring, but it's kind of hard to have a consistent character that also dies forever. Maybe that could be their gimmick, resetting all the time and starting over, but Re:Zero pretty much does this gimmick way better and doesn't tax my personal sanity.

Also, I tend to play in a way that a character like the Elin protag probably wouldn't have knowledge of, like Winter Start running to the Graveyard or Moon Gating to get free materials. Doesn't make a compelling story IMO.
