It's been a while since we've had one of these. Post some good Touhou fanfics or talk about your own writing projects.

I've released chapter 28 of my fanfic. It's action-heavy and focuses on fleshing out the cast and settings from the PC-98 games, especially Mystic Square. Knowledge of the PC-98 games is helpful but isn't required to understand the story, so if this sounds interesting, feel free to give it a read or tell me your thoughts. You can read it and the rest of the story here:

As a certified Makai-hater, I might consider a perusal.
>Chapter 20: The Singing Void
Is this, by chance, acheeky Doom referenceor purely coincidental overlap?

I recommend this one.
Despite the title, Tenshi is not in the story very much.

You're the first person to notice! I've been sneaking in multiple references to Doom in the chapter titles. For the complete list:
Chapter 17: Secrets and Lies is map 14 of Going Down
Chapter 20: The Singing Void is map 18 of Sunder
Chapter 21: Terror Firma is the track that plays on map 24 of the TNT: Evilution midi pack
Chapter 22: Dance with Death is a play on map 7 of Tribute, Dance of Death
Chapter 23: Minds Like Magnets is the track that plays on map 19 of the TNT: Evilution midi pack
Chapter 24: Grinding Teeth is the track that plays on T.E.E.T.H. from the Master Levels for Doom II midi pack
Chapter 25: Wither and Writhe is a track from Doom: The Dark Ages
Chapter 27: A Question of Time is map 14 of Memento Mori II
This is just me being cheeky. There's also a couple references to other things like Chapter 26: Two Betrayals being taken from Halo CE.

Might as well actually say something.
I have written a few fanfics before, almost exclusively to pass the time or as amusing gifts for some acquaintances, nothing really worth even putting online. Most of what I have lying around is quite decidedly non-fiction, and even with a significant rewrite and expansion, it would probably be too much for anyone but me to stomach. Since the execution would need to be focused and precise, I often find myself lacking for even the simplest of ideas.

Sunder is always recognizable, but missing the midi pack and MM2 references is just shameful on my end.
From what I've skimmed of your story it seems quaint, can't comment much more since the style and structure are a bit distant from what I usually engage with or write, especially fight scenes. Maybe VNs have attempted to perfect those, but anything more than general imagery or a few particularly important movements feel outright impossible for me to compose in a satisfactory way.

My story about four human men being brought in from the outside world and married to Youkai, in which their wives eat a part of their flesh, has made a lot of progress since I last posted about it.
At first I thought about working on a more focused project, but I've realized that writing four men at the same time makes it's easier to dethatch myself from them and play them against each other as different people, rather then one guy ending up as a generic-nice-dude/self-gratifying edge lord.
Ultimately my goal is to write something that adds to the characters, so Okuu and her Husband learning to understand each other should say as much about Okuu as a character as it does the Husband, which is a balance that I'm having a lot of fun maintaining and weaving as the plots intersects. I really love stories with multiple perspectives where the author plays around with your attention.
I'm still struggling a lot with prose however. Like a lot of the time I'll use the trick of showing one thing about to happen:
>The Oni clasped her hand into a fist, and it became like an iron-wrought hammer heading towards his head...
And then subvert it with 'but', 'however', or 'instead':
>But instead of the man's head being turned into a mess pulp, a rock smashed into the Oni's crown, throwing her off balance and causing her fist to kiss the dirt
I use it way too often and I think it's because I like the contradiction too much and don't have enough other tools to create suspense.

Meet at least two of the following conditions:
1. Excessive attempts on Makai bosses in HRtP
2. Excessive familiarity with Mystic Square (exacerbated if playing Yuuka), including but not limited to:
-Five hundred minimum attempts on Lunatic Yumeko
-LNB or better (worse)
-Any attempt at getting a "competitive" score
3. Excessive experience with UFO's final two stages
4. Aversion to any divinity with a corporeal form, distinct shape or dubious metaphysical standing (SMT-style Pseudo-Gnosticism also accepted)
5. Extreme dislike of anything that can be called a demon
6. Active suspicion towards blondes and ahoges

I dont want to make an AO3 account for the fanfic Im making, nor do I want to make a Wattpad account, I want to post it here and see the reactions here, would it be rude to make my own thread if when I have something to share there isnt a fanfic thread?

It depends.
KMS and HSE were able to survive because they were products of JP and were created in the threads.(although HSE is a spin-off of a spin-off of an AoC fic, so go figure).
If it's small, you can post it to a thread about that character and most people are fine with that.
Otherwise, you should probably dump it to pastebin-like 'fire and forget' site and link it in an OC thread.
>>
>>
>>50624964
you can post it as anon on AO3 fwiw, just for prosperity's sake
with the autosaging after 2 weeks it really kills OC threads or community driven stuff, which is how things like KMS thrive. i guess i'd post it on the OC thread? there's always one that exists here
>>
>>50634761
I don't think it necessarily KILLS those projects, but it does mean they have to have new threads constantly. I think the early half of the KMS was averaging something like three days per thread anyway and it wasn't until everything slowed down later that the threads stuck around for ages.

Nothing posted yet, but first chapter will likely be out by Spring at my current rate of work and projected length.
The plan I have is to complete 50-75% of the story in a first draft, then release chapters sequentially. That way I'm free to write whatever in the first pass, not worrying about completeness, prose, or style, and then I still get the benefit of feedback to modify/add/cut things as necessary during the release period.
I'm developing this method because I like the freedom and soul of some fan works, but they always feel a little superficial and improvised since the writer is 'laying down track as they pass it'. That won't hack it for this approach because I'm trying to create four or five mysteries I want the reader to contemplate and enjoy, which requires forethought and a lot of metacognition about the character's thoughts.
From a personal perspective, the reason I'm writing this now is because I want to practice higher-order thinking, which is thinking about the thoughts of others, how we consider the possible combinations of our thoughts and theirs's, and how we choose what to believe about those thoughts(what possible combination do we think is true?), and how those choices affect us through time. Put another way: I'm thinking about the integral of choices on perspectives of thoughts about sets of thoughts. It's an exhaustive but incredibly fun thing to do.I think this lies on the borders of being incredibly useful or entirely esoteric, so it'll probably make for a good Touhou story.
It'll be called "Dowry" when it comes out though, that much I'm certain about.
