you have to accept that japanese tv is mostly for the vibes
sometimes they do something new and exciting, but most of the time it's people getting together and laughing even if the thing you're watching has been done before or exaggerated

I rewatched Battle Royale again since it was its release's 25th anniversary last month. As a fanatic of the death game genre who consumed all kinds of death games from different mediums and countries, none of them hits like Battle Royale's sheer thrill, atmosphere and surrealism. Takeshi Kitano's death scene at the end of the movie is one of the best in all of cinema.

i was under the impression that this was going to be the launchpad for ALL of the actors in it. very few of them hit it big
girl #13 chiaki kuriyama looks like this at 41
>>

>for ALL of the actors in it.
That never happens. In every popular school-themed dramas and movies where there are lots of young actors and actresses, only a few hit it big. Kinpachi-sensei, Dragon Zakura, 3 Nen A Gumi, you name them, not all of the actors there hit it big.

Everyone is still shitting on her. She doesn't have the acting ability and the strong presence to force people to ignore her messy private life and enjoy her acting like Sawajiri Erika, she's just a pretty face with no talents.

99% of the time with torrenting, anything old and niche will have 0 seeders. But nevermind, I found one. Search through past thread archives if you want it.

It all depends on the talent agency the talent belongs to. Fukasaku is an auteur so he gave jackshit about the power of the talent agency, he picked his cast based on his own judgement, but outside Battle Royale, Maeda belongs to a no name talent agency and Shibasaki belongs to the giant Stardust.

I'm the anon who asked, and I can't confirm, but I skipped around the first episode, and she meets or is to meet 3 different guys. She doesn't hook up with them (not sure why), but I guess it's romance heavy.

Beat Takeshi reminisced about the late actor Takakura Ken when the topic was about the record rise in gold prices
>When I co-starred with Takakura Ken-san in a film, I received a medal made out of gold from him. The kind you wear around your neck. It had Takakura Ken's name written on the back, and the word "Thank you”. I've kept it all this time, but I guess it's a very valuable item now. I wonder if I should sell it.

Heyo, anons. I'm very curious about ばけばけ (The Ghost Writer's Wife). I'd love to watch that drama somewhere, but I don't know how to get started when it comes to watching JP drama, since I live in Europe. Is there any non-VPN way to watch these shows? Even if its not subbed in english, I'm fine with it. I want more practice with JP anyway.

There's a copy of it at the National Film Archive of Japan, it's just never been scanned for a home release. To be honest it sounds really boring.

No, modern women are more beautiful due to advanced beauty products and easily accessible health products, as well as cosmetic surgeries, unlike in the past. But this only makes you appreciate 10/10 natural Showa beauties like Matsuzaka Keiko and Iwashita Shima.

I remember recently seeing a trailer for a Japanese version of Water Margin. It wasn't actually called that, and I think it was based on a Japanese novel retelling of the story. Anyone knows what I'm talking about?

They're taught how to write that way in scriptwriting school. I think it comes from classic literature influence, Romance of the Three Kingdoms, The Water Margin, etc.. Those stories had themes that were portrayed by characters clearly representing what they stood for. So now you every teacher in these schools teach their students to write characters that way because it's more "omoshiroi" that way. Same reason every drama used to have some sort of forced misunderstanding plotline, though it's not as popular anymore.
These techniques aren't fundamentally bad but mediocre writers will make formulaic writing more obvious.
