I could see why they would want to, even if they are attractive enough to face stream. I imagine there is far less prep work leading up to a stream when they vtube. No need to do their hair, make up, find a nice low cut top to wear, and clean up the immediate area behind them. They can just roll out of bed 10mins before stream and hop on because their 2D face is always ready. Merchandising becomes much easier too since you're a ready built mascot.

I'm completely indifferent to vtubers, never cared to watch them and the only use I've gotten out of them is the porn. However, I don't have a problem with them on a conceptual level because the only streamers I like don't show their face anyway. On top of that, while I don't doubt a lot of them are attention whores trying to rake in neetbucks, the people who fork them over deserve it because they're so deluded they're incapable of recognizing a character/stage persona as such when it's far more obvious than any other kind of one. Really the only difference I see between vtubers and someone like Joel is that the latter doesn't market himself on people wanting to fuck him (which is just how otaku culture is in general. said, I think it's very possible for some of them to be genuinely charismatic and/or talented comedians because you don't have to be a stacy to do well here).
