The nature of heavy machine guns hasn't greatly changed since the M2 was invented. The nature of strategic bombers hasn't fundamentally changed since the B-52 came into service, at least not greatly enough that upgrade packages can't compensate. The T-34 had to be upgraded multiple times during the 1940's just to keep it up to speed with technological advancements back then. Tank armor, weapons systems, and capabilities are entirely different now from what they were back then.
