Why has there been no serious discussion about Canada buying the KF-21?

Let me rephrase: Why has the KF-21 escaped public notice in the current Canadian debate about what fighter jet to buy? The Gripen is practically a household name now in Canada.

Because no one really takes the KF-21 seriously, even if it theoretically could fulfill the mission role, it's a brand-new fighter from a nation with little to no experience building 4.5th+ gen fighters.
Obviously it COULD end up being a decent jet that Canada is “missing” out on, but presently it would be an unproven gamble for Canada to go out on a limb and place an order for KF-21s. Before the KF-21 even officially enters South Korean service.
Also, the KF-21 still uses countless US components, so it's hardly fully divorced from the US either, whereas the Gripen at least theoretically COULD be re-engined with an EJ200 derivative.

Economic & software update maimswitch, or price increase.
That would still be kind of a nuclear option for Trump (if he isn't as dumb as he acts) but you anon act as if he didn't openly and explicitly threaten withholding access to US product if you don't cave to his caprice.

So why wouldn't the KF-21 be subject to the same thing? SK could just as easily withhold maintenance and software support from their customers. The only way around this concern is to develop and build a fully domestic aircraft.

no they couldnt. korea's entire business model is that it does not come with the strings attached a US jet has.
it would be fundamentally idiotic for them to do that

>Does Canada even have pilots to fly jets? Isn't their military comically undermanned?
this is the real issue here^
>>

>>64824398
you dont know what the flying fuck you are talking about? if you actaully think korea is making Free as in Freedom aircraft you are retarded
In no way, shape or form do they make a mordern militatry aircraft without proprietary software you fucking dunce, any aircraft will be tied to the engineering of that manufacturer -gps, engine mgnt cpu systems, radar, flight sys cpu- all running code you cannot have the source to - you are a fuck wit

We actually have more pilots then we have planes, and have stopped accepting recruitment for pilots because we have no way to train them, our shortages are largely in the Army and navy, not the airforce. End of the day there is never a shortage of people who want to be fighter pilots

>sorta like the US doing it, huh?
lmao, no
its a very easy and obvious way to maintain vassal allegience.
true "soft power"
>>64824479
i never said they did dipshit, merely that its marketed as some kind of 'alternative' with less geopolitical strings, i never said it was some turn-key blank slate w/blueprints included

Are you pretending to not understand the concept of balance of power and mutual interest?
The ideal is to develop a domestic aircraft, sure, but can you afford it and will it be any good?
Most of those deals are political, we know they'll buy crappy stuff just in the hope the sellers feel like they have to support you or lose a client. At least until you meet a manchild who think he is running a protection mafia.

>warranty end
>equipment instantly become crap
Would not buy again
>>

They're doing so for the subs (car factories and steel mills) but not for the jets.
Gooks also usually import gooks for all the cushy high-paying jobs and will probably staff the rest with jeets to cut costs so it's questionable how good of a deal it actually is.

Afaik you can only make use of a lot of the F35s advanced features if you upload missing planning data and maps into the jet, and to do that you have to go through Lockeed's servers.
Not sure if this is still the case, I read an article where some countries complained about this.

>complaining about guns threads on /k/
>defending VANK spam that isn't meant to discuss anything, only overt shilling the same way chinkshills keep making j36 threads
fuck off back to bilibili or whatever bugman boards you have in bugland.
>>

>kill switch
This forced meme is how I know beyond all doubt that the F35 is the most lethal airframe and platform in the world, and that thirdies and chinks are shitting and pissing their pants at the idea of everyone they want to exploit having them.
Sowing this sort of FUD is only worth doing if the F35 represents a genuine threat.

>The KF-21 is almost entirely made of US components and software.
well...
then like the gripen, it will get kill-switched if someone thinks they are going to do something with geopolitical consequences the US doesnt like
sounds like the J10c is the best bet for any nation who wants 'freedom' with their export-model purchases
