I had the brilliant idea to try and paint my M9A4 black using spray paint. Obviously not working out. What do I soak this in to remove the paint? I'm trying alcohol right now.

you should have just bought an M9A1 or M9A3 instead of buying a gun in a color that you hate so much that you resort to spray painting it without disassembling it and masking it like a gorilla monkey nigger
>>

>>64824089
lmao anon you can't call me an asshat when you just took the slide off of your $1,000 handgun and begin hitting it with fucking spray paint with zero further disassembly or preparation. you're an actual fucking retard, dude. what did you think was going to happen?

Good fucking god, you’re a retard. Now with that shit out of your system take a bucket fill it with paint thinner and submerge for a couple hours. Then with a stiff bristle brush (not a wire brush) you’re going to scrub that shit off. Luckily its rattle can spray paint so it comes off relatively easily. Afterwards you dry it off and relube. Then never do that shit again. If you want to have it black, send it to a place that does cerakote or something

Next time watch on video on how to spray paint. You put too much on too soon and probably too close to the can. Even better practice on a toy gun or something until you get the hang before attempting on the real deal
>>
>>
>>
>>64824155
you changing your mind about wanting an FDE gun is not the issue here
the issue here is that you spray painted your gun without even fucking disassembling it (other than removing the slide, which actually made it worse because you got paint on the frame rails).
you were somehow too stupid to foresee the spray paint gumming up all of the moving parts. you are a total idiot. you are a troglodyte. you can call me an asshat all you want but you might as well have shit yourself in public and then tried to call me a pants shitter.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>64824180
I didn't take the slide off when I did it. I made sure to tape off the sensitive bits like my sights and dot. The gun shoots just fine, it just looks like shit. Once again, asshat, if you're gonna talk shit, you could at least be a singular IQ point ahead of me.

a dot, as in a red dot? you left your red dot sight on when you painted this abomination? what about your mag release and the wholes in the frame near the trigger? goddamn dude
>>
>>64824293
Covered with painter's tape as per the video's instructions. I probably should've come to /k/ for advice, but I figured it wouldn't really be a big deal. It's not, my gun is just fuck ugly now, but everything still works and it shoots with no hiccups.

Get a steel wire brush and brush it after soaking it in acetone.
If it doesnt work youll have to use wet sandpaper, and start as low as 80 or 120 grit. Use a flat surface, or set it in a vice. If you dont have a vice use pliers to grab the frame and use the wet sand paper in circular motions.
Plan b is using a heat gun and scrape the paint off. If you dont have a heat gun set it the stove or oven 30 minutes at medium/high heat or in boiling soapy water.
Then use Wd40 as a lubricant everywhere and be done.
Do you have more pictures? Inside the slide or whole gun?

Fuck off, I've sprayed plenty of guns. For OP, duracoat is decent enough DIY if you get a toaster oven to bake it on. Prep is always the biggest part, blast cabinet and acetone for metal parts is ideal. I've had completely satisfactory results just using dawn as a degreaser and hitting parts with tractor paint though. The few guns I have get a lot of use so less than perfect finishes don't really matter to me because there will be plenty of wear in a few months.
>>
>>64823866
You didn't fucking take off the grip panels, or take out the mag release and trigger parts? Are you retarded? Even as a stupid teenager who wanted the grips olive green on my airshit CZ75, I had enough sense to take them the fuck off and spraypaint them separately.
Goddamn, you must really be a dumb motherfucker.
>>64824089
>doesn't take out the parts and mask the relevant surfaces
>just uses shitty spray paint over the existing finish (and attached parts)
You are not equipped to do something like repainting this gun. If you want it black instead of FDE, then just sell this thing and buy another in the color you want. You'll take a loss on it even if you properly clean off this paint, but that's what you've incurred on yourself.

Paint's off. Took about 30 minutes with some finger nail polish remover. Everything is fine with its function, just looks dirty. Gonna need to baby it a little to get it sliffy again, but any excuse to touch my gun is a good one.
Thanks to everyone who gave advice. Everyone else, fuck your whore mother.

Couple of months of carrying it and all this will have fallen right off. Still gonna give it some tlc, but that's gonna be more of a sitting in my rocking chair on the porn type deal. The finish was already getting pretty rough to begin with, so it's really not too much worse off.

No he doesn't lol. I taped off the sights and dots, I taped off the trigger and sensitive bits, and, as you can see by the updated pic, I've gotten all the major paint off. The gun works fine, it's just dingy now, but that'll come off with some more polish.

Does anyone remember the third world restoration video trend on youtube a few years ago?
There was one particular youtube video on one of the fake indian restoration channels where some brown subhuman pulls a guitar conveniently placed in a street side mud puddle and "restores it" by wire brushing it and spray painting it.
This is the gun version of that.

grips are probably fucked, replace them
use paint thinner and some small knife or something to remove as many parts as you can
soak it in paint thinner and enjoy scrubbing afterwards
>>64823884
brightside here, after the scrubbing and paint thinner you may have removed parts of the FDE and will likely have a silver, black, and FDE camo pattern retard!
get it cerekoted after you clean it and just tell them it survived a car fire or electrical fire to spare yourself the humiliation, you will likely need to get it cerekoted afterwards because the finish is going to be fucked and its going to rust
you may need to polish the rails afterwards too but thankfully its all metal parts except for the grip panels so itll be fine

Thanks man. I don't see why so many people here wanna see me fail or act like painting is the easiest shit on the planet when dudes make hundreds and thousands of dollars doing it professionally. I'm just a dude who's doing a personal art project. Like you said, if I fail, just try again. With this attempt, the second mind you, it's coming out damn near perfect. The only thing I have to be careful of is me being impatient.

the black paint is off the FDE and the black controls. It looks alright
>the bad
The gips look like a cheap toy, with the paint it looks slippery, and that shit will wear off with light usage and will get on your hands
The slide, it looks like its spray painted. It looks thick and cheap at the same time.
If you really want to have the part a different color, send it into a place that does finishes and it will look better. As for the grips, buy a new set that is the color you like.

>it looks alright, but you should REALLY send it to someone and pay them money!
yeah because their painting skills and materials are clearly not up to task to get their expensive handgun to look good and last.
You can spend years and money learning how to do it yourself, sure. If thats something the OP wants to do go ahead but do it on cheap bargain bin guns rather than a M9A3. Or you can just pay a qualified person to do it for you if you don't plan on doing this again or for the long term.
>calling me a jew

Regular paint is for accent fills on handguns and that's it. Otherwise you need an actual firearms finish coating for high heat and friction performance. This isn't about our way or your way, this is about simple material facts.
