In terms of ammo preparing for a scenario where war breaks out, or the US is invaded- would it be stupid going all in on 9mm for my Glock?
If no, then how many rounds of ammo would you get? How many mags? How many 30 round mags?

You're not likely to need many 9mm rounds. Situations where you need a pistol are usually over quickly (one way or the other) and with few rounds expended. On the other hand, supression with a rifle consumes ridiculous amounts of ammo. Stock up on 556 instead.

There is basically no chance of a land invasion on the US mainland. Your bigger concerns are domestic terrorists, mass shootings, or martial law.

What do you plan on being in the event of a mexican invasion of the united states? A combatant? Join the army, they'll give you a gun. Join a militia and you need a rifle. Professional refugee ('bugging out")? Nobody is going to let random homeless people wander around with a gun anywhere you'd be welcomed.

OP alone would stop any and all wars on US soil with his glock and extended magazines

More ammo is always better; get as much as you can afford (ironically, some people are spending too much on ammo) and can keep dry.

Get as much ammo you can store and carry. Having 1 million rounds of 9mm doesn't matter if you're only gonna be able to carry 500 rounds.

Also note that in an invasion, insurgent/terrorist acts are better against an invading force than getting into gunfights with them, since it's easier to leave a backpack full of Ammonium Nitrate wherever enemies are than trying to shoot them.

With a grenade in it, yes

This has always been my thoughts. Pistol ammo stockpiles only make sense to remain somewhat competent in your most likely used weapon. But ammo expenditure is nearly always rifle cartridges.

That honestly depends on the bag limit.

if there's a war in the US join a side and they will give you ammo
if it's civil unrest, 50 defensive rounds for a pistol is more than you will ever use, stockpile enough so that your training never cuts into those 50 rounds and you will be fine
for a fighting rifle you want 300-1000 rounds plus training ammo
100 rounds for a hunting rifle
200 rounds for a hunting shotgun

It doesn't really matter. You can buy however many of whatever cartridge you want. It's like asking what color slippers you should wear when you get the Nobel prize -- it's not going to happen. That doesn't mean you need to get one pair of slippers over the other, but it's probably best for your psychology if you don't obsess over things that are never going to happen.

And keep in mind that 9mm is heavier and less effective than 5.56
