I knew I was not a male when I was like 8 and wanted to transition because my body was wrong. I tucked and tried to remove my penis as a child and a teen. I acted feminine until it was literally beaten out of me. But I did not know HRT existed until roughly 2018. All my life I only saw old crossdressers on TV and believed they were what trans women were.
I researched transitioning on my own and got misled. I managed to know there were surgeries that inverted a penis into a vagina, and I wanted them, and I heard about FFS and wanted that too, but my research didn't teach me about HRT. Then my parents caught me researching trans surgeries and I got punished.
I didn't meet a trans woman IRL until years and years later when I was in my mid 20s and she informed me about HRT. I was shocked to learn there were parts of transition outside of surgery, and from that moment on I wanted to take HRT.

You can't blame kids with incomplete or misleading information for not magically knowing everything about transition. I couldn't order DIY because I didn't know what HRT was. I just saved up for surgeries because I thought that's all there was.

not everyone is privileged with good sex education. almost everywhere it's just for cis people, if you're lucky. some super religious conservative types were against sex ed in my country because they wanted to continue to be socially acceptable to touch kids in the wrong places to express their love or something. they liked the idea of being able to identify and supply trans kids confusion back in the day to fiddle with them: saying they need more god and touch them and so on to get their kicks on. so when those trans kids only realize when they grow up. so to me i think it's complicated,
