I think I'm too autistic to write. I have ideas but I have no idea how to execute them in a way that will make other people care. Even when I read I often miss the point because it happens to be about something that isn't important to me.

What could possibly be the value of being so out of touch with a broad range of human emotions and relationships that I can't fathom how to make people interested and invested in something I want to express to them?

every day I write is a good day. I write because it pleases God. even if one person reads what I write and it helps them in some way, the work has been done. I expect nothing else. go with God.

I got fucking tired of submitting to contests, and, for that matter, to magazines and journals that charged a submission fee. I kept getting rejected from them and it dawned on me past a certain point that I was just paying to be rejected.
Nowadays I don't submit to any journal or website that charges a reading/submission fee, and I only submit to contests if the payout for winners is sufficiently high. I have better things to do than pay to be rejected, I'm not that much of a sucker.

I'm up to about 150 mags. But, largely, a writing career is quite boring. All these online writers seem to be part of big cliques and whatnot, hosting their readings and literary nights out, and, as silly as most of those are, they do seem a little fun. Guess I'm lacking a bit of the social aspect of things. Knowing the right people in this industry is often better than being able to write well.

Midwesterners have a higher concentration of free carpenters and Satanists. So they are more possessive by nature.

January was the first month in my whole life where I actually wrote (almost) every day. I only got about 12k words, but it feels like a big accomplishment imo. But the last week or so I have been getting slowed down for various reasons. I have been spending too much time on the computer and need to get back to working with just a notebook first, then typing things up after I've started a chapter with handwriting or at least come up with a detailed outline for a scene.
I also realized that the chapter I was working on is probably not outlined very well, there aren't many real developments in the plots, some of the scene may be hard to write or boring, and there isn't much real conflict. So I decided to skip over the last scene of Ch. 3 and jump to Ch. 4. I hope it goes well.

I try to go to my local library, Starbucks or a mostly empty restaurant on the weekend for a couple of hours to see if I can focus on writing. I have a few story ideas but I end up fixating on the details of the world instead of cranking out chapters.
Someday I'll finish a book. Maybe never.

I got published in a handful of rpg books as a freelancer, and buzzfeed stole a shitpost of mine re-imagining the final duel in star wars ep 6 as a battle of cookery between the vegan queso of the light side and the dark chocolate brownies of the dark side. So I'm pretty much famous, totally.

Jesus... I really think I might not make it, anons. I received small recognition right out of college, and then burrowed in to spend 5 or 6 years on a novel. I should have been split that time between working on it and getting published/an agent. I'm nearing closer to 30 than I'd like with no prospects. I really won't be like my favorite writers at this pace.

>tfw trying to release a story serially on a website I had built for it
>getting less and less viewers with each installment
I get that the beginning's kind of slow, but I hope it's not putting people off too much.

Spending 5-6 years on your first novel is a horrible use of your time, man. Your first couple novels are where you experiment and find your lane. I spent a year on my first attempt and, mercifully, got it picked up for publication. But it wouldn't have been any better if I'd spent an additional 4 on it. You need to start submitting individual pieces to magazines ASAP. Work on your bigger projects when you can.

Thing is, being a writer and being someone who writes are very different things. A writer is mostly a social media whore, a marketing specialist who is constantly selling their brand and products. The publisher will NOT do ANYTHING to sell your book. It's all on YOU.
And I'm not going to do that. Even if I finished a book and got a publishing deal, there's no way I could market it. So I'll never be a writer. I'm just someone who writes.
But what's the point of writing if you'll never be a writer? Now there's a question to consider.

I already have started submitting. Only a couple of responses so far but fade a few cuts, according to the. And as for the first novel thing, I think that only applies to mediocre writers, no offense. I never needed to "find my lane." I knew it from the jump.

I wrote 4 books? What boogeyman am I being confused with here? I haven't written anything. But at least I finish my fucking sentences. Normally I would agree that pointing out typos and minor grammatical issues is pointless but of all places this is a fucking thread for people who aspire to be writers. Some habits should be ingrained such that you don't make retarded mistakes like this, even when shitposting on a sri lankan vaginal rejuvenation forum.
