But the crazy thing is that there is tons of research that shows that content shapes behavior. For instance, there is 30 years of research showing that taking economics classes makes people more selfish, even over long periods. This is hardly surprising since it is taught, often as a scientific fact, that man is essentially a self-interested utility maximizer (Homo oecononimicus). However, Homo oecononimicus is widely acknowledged to be an unfalsifiable presupposition of liberal economics, more of an interpretive lens than a research finding (indeed, taken at face value it would be a remarkably bold claim that would make much of psychology and sociology redundant). It's also acknowledge in intellectual histories that it comes into economics from Calvinism, and just never left. It works fine as a sort of methodological black box, but as an actual description of the world, and given that economics is THE science of liberalism, it's sort of wild that it is taught like this. This is what we call in the biz "performative economics," the way in which managerial means-ends rationalization turns itself from an abstraction into a social reality by shaping policy based on what is says is true.
Anyhow, that's just one example. Good book. A big finding that should surprise no one is that kids who embrace moral anti-realism or managerial "pragmatism all the way down" ethics are more likely to steal, cheat, commit adultery, do drugs, abort their unborn children, etc. than those who subscribe to deontology or traditionalist ethics (which is largely a function of what their family believes since the schools avoid teaching ethics except for race/gender stuff).

You mean consooming and muh money? They're also killing themselves at the highest rates and overwhelmingly overweight. They aren't having as much promiscuous sex but they also aren't getting married and starting families at all.
People underplay must how bad it is. Being at 50% of replacement fertility will collapse your civilization and drive it's population down by 87.5% in just three generations.
Not to mention just shrugging as their civilization goes extinct.

Because now they just sit inside with electronic crime and sex simulators, so they murder in vidya and goon to porn, and can just use their phones to order fast food, load up on pharma from their doctors, and get weed at the gas station. Of course they get arrested less, hemp gummies and oil have been everywhere for years now and half the kids have been on amphetamines since they were 8 years old lol. Anyone with anxiety can get their own tranqs. And there is no need to go out to do anything when you can live in virtual degeneracy while binge eating.

If the response was to too many Babies why are countries now dipping below 40% of replacement even as alarm bells about extinction are being loudly rung in the public square. This makes no sense, the original cause you cite is long gone.
Also, why would the most religious people still be having many kids, regardless of education and income, but then the most secular have very few regardless of income.
It seems blatantly obvious that Western culture no longer values motherhood or fatherhood, or civic virtue much for that matter. That's why it's become a suicide cult, going out of business sale for the Boomer's appetites.
