I'm starting to suspect that boomers aren't high-quality people, as a rule.

Boomers aren't high quality people. They're spoiled by growing up in the golden age of surplus following WWII and they will do anything to maintain their lifestyle for as long as possible no matter who it hurts. They will gladly usher in the surveillance police state to protect them from the hoardes of brown illegal immigrants they let invade the country to keep costs low and their three houses overvalued and their biannual cruises and new car leases on track and then destroy the entire economy and the futures of generations by locking them in their homes, preventing them from gathering in public or private or attending church or school and labeling everyone that doesn't directly support their retirement as non-essential on the off chance that they might catch a slightly worse flu than last year's.

Rothfuss, Robert Jordan, many others are part of this disillusionment. Even earlier Herbert died before completing Dune. Son spawns endless trash.
Think of it in a longer context of Tolkien imitators starting to make more “huge worlds” in the 70s-90s with GRRM part of that era. They started to fall on their faces but fantasy being a complete joke genre took until the 2010s or so.
