I still have enough time to start and finish Muv-Luv this year, right?

I'm sure you can get it over with if you read like 12 to 15 hours a day. Also birthday posting.

Thirded. Very gud game. My goty for 2024.

Mabu Labu vibes come more from the timeloop & alt-history techno thriller aspects I think. And the world collapse due to China fucking up? Otherwise it's very much its own thing.

Have a hot chick in a plugsuit from the Werewolf SpecOps since we're posting those.

Imagine having such a catastrofic loss of population you decide to hide your demographic data from the public... like Russia lol
I've been reading TDA very slowly and despite the main gang being pretty upbeat most of the time, it feels kind of depressing.
>>
>>23683815
Okay, Klaus.
>>
>>23684020
It's got tonal whiplash, especially in 01. The setting is grim as fuck, yet we also have silly Anime moments. It's the problem when you're trying to have Extra-style shenanigans and Alternative blood and BETA and cool robots in the same entry.
>>
>>23681915
>two Lise types
Nice
>>
>>23684500
Not at all. If your story is all grimdark, all the time, none of the truly bad moments are gonna make an impact on the reader. In TDA you have Miono giving Hibiki a letter he thinks is a confession because Ellen told her to troll him. You also have her cheerfully talking about 10 y/o child soldiers, which people seem to find shocking. Remove the former and the latter doesn't land nearly as hard.
>>
Anyone got the link for the Schwaken VN promo site?

About to start playing this series. I remember once seeing an absolutely batshit timeline/play order chart on here a hundred years ago, but now no longer have it. Anyone know what I'm talking about and have it if so?

In all honesty it'd been years since I saved it and I thought it was one of those semi-comedic flowcharts that had a bunch of "joke-but-not-really" picks on it for play order. But yeah, I had always been interested in playing it but was just too lazy to get around to it until someone bought me it on Steam.

>Director (direction and planning)
>We are looking for a position to plan and develop new games or production plans based on the "Muv-Luv Tactics" game engine.
>Task: Submit a concrete proposal to combine the world view, setting, and scenario of "Muv-Luv TACTICS RESONATIVE (tentative title)" with a specific game genre or system, and reach a wider audience.
>Desired candidate: Someone who can propose plans and productions that are marketable as a "product" rather than just fulfilling the desires of a fan. We are open to expansion plans for new gameplay, not just within the framework of S-RPG or ADV.

>Scenario writer
>We are looking for a position to write a scenario that brings out the charm of the characters while adhering to the worldview and setting of the Muv-Luv series.
>Assignment: Submit a short scenario (including plot) using past achievements or the setting of this series.
>Desired candidate: Someone who can see "Muv-Luv TACTICS RESONATIVE (tentative title)" as their own work and who can proceed with production with a strong will, while still adhering to the set guidelines.

I'm so glad I played ML and MLA blind when I was a teen. Just the quality differences between ML and MLA was crazy.
>ML being text boxes and 480p
>Boot up MLA
>It's fucking wide screen
>the DBZ guy is singing the main opening
>bunch of god tier kamige animation in the opening
>subtitles instead of text box
Like that shift is insanely good but it's sad that the re-release spoil the heavy mecha twist (well it's kinda obvious now) and backport all the neat stuff from MLA to MLE and MLU. They even switched MLU's opening song a lot more serious rather than Muv Luv again. (I still like it though)

Give it to me for real. Is this series going to live?
>>
>>23693820
Sometimes... dead is bettah. What comes back out of the ground... isn't what you put in.
>>
>>23693820
Hopefully not, at this point.
They shouldn't have kept going after the last TDA, honestly (and that's being generous; I personally wouldn't keep going after Total Eclipse).
Things should be allowed to end. Of course, that is being naïve; suits and creatives alike always get greedy when something is even mildly succesful, and so they milk everything and anything no matter how moribund it is.
The way MuvLuv is right now reminds me of the current state of Halo: they're both now a total joke, to fans and casuals alike, all the while the suits in charge are desperately trying to do anything to revitalize these IPs.
>>
>>23693820
It's doing better than it has in decades so I'd say yes.
>>
>>23693820
Visual novels are a gigadead medium and they don't have the talent or resources to make games. Not that it would be preferable, considering you usually take massive storytelling hits making actual games.

Is liking Girl's Garden the new contrarian position? It's completely disconnected from the universe of the Muv Luv trilogy, and basically exists so dudes can spend money to jack off over their Waifu PNGs. Masami Okui Sion is one of my favorites OP (between Metamorphose, divergence and Photon melodies ones), really cool how it feel exactly how a real anime opening would, and beautifully expresses the motto of Unlimited. The Extra opening to Unlimited opening was such a tone shift, regardless of using the same track. Even knowing about Unlimited's existence, I'm glad I didn't spoil it.
>>
>>23712318
ik, but the direction was very lame compared to Sion, the synchronisation, choreography and pacing of the scene felt a little cheap, lacking on impact. Also a lot of "cheap" assets were completly overhaul, redesign and improved some only thanks to the digital post processing. You can see how they didn't had all that experience making this kind of videos.
>>23711366
in the original unlimited OP there was shot of sumika spirit (?) fading away in a battlefield, then Kasumi appears on the left, reacting to that, in Sion is the same scene but Sumika doesn't appear, The first footage was reused in the Alternative OP (both all ages and +18).
Probably the development of Sumika on alternative was originally planned to happen on unlimited (that will also explain why in the original OP Meiya had the Takemikazuchi)

Now that we have the example of the war in Ukraine, did Kouki severely underestimate the role that small, cheap remote controlled drones could play in a war in which strategic air dominance is impossible to establish thanks to advanced air defense systems?
>>
>>23716434
no? To even have a chance at hurting a single BETA you need bomber-level payloads, you're not doing shit with a grenade strapped to a quadcopter. And anything large enough to fly over the treeline gets LASER'd. Even if you could make car-sides drone that kamikaze'd and took aout a single tank or grappler, there's hundreds more, and humanity was struggling to produce enough basic bitch WW2 artillery shells.

Also, modern missiles (with electronics, not the first generation or Vietnam-era crap) are better to intercept Laser classes because their high speed gives less time to get targeted and fired.

Muv-Luv was written in early 2000s but I could see them mass producing cheap drones (rather than the heavy expensive kind we saw briefly in TE) with the technology they have on hand if they wanted to, especially with the same pressures that exist in Ukraine (traditional more expensive military drones being vulnerable to powerful ground based air defenses forcing a switch to large numbers of cheaper, more disposable low-flying options)
I agree that the payload of your average small FPV drone is unlikely to be useful against most BETA though.

>mfw I thought the Muv-Luv franchise couldn't be more dead but then Avex drives me into a blind vengeful frenzy by making an awful anime adaptation of the main trilogy that starts in the middle of the storyline and then they don't even make enough episodes to finish their already fucking truncated Alternative arc
>>
>>23718248
Why the fuck did they change the 90s art style. Who was the idiot that approved this?
>>
>>23719743
kouki was one of the principle people pushing that shit lmao, you can still see him signing off on bad design with the tactics girl who looks like a hooker
>>
>>23720398
yeah because that's actually so similar to the flat muted dogshit anime designs
>>
>>23719743
>90s
I know what you mean, but it's early 2000s, lmao.
I don't think updating the designs was a bad idea, but I don't know why they did it without preserving their essence, making them less colorful, "normal," and giving them generic anime hair, all for nothing. It's not like colorful and "impossible" hair is unpopular; it's still pretty popular in contemporary anime designs (look at Uma Musume, lmao).
Don't get me wrong, the OG Muv-Luv designs aren't perfect. I actually prefer the Kiminozo ones a lot (just compare Sumika from Akane Maniax to Muv-Luv). I think a good middle point between modern anime designs and early-2000s moe galge were the TDA, KimiIta Remake and Alternative manga ones

>I think a good middle point between modern anime designs and early-2000s moe galge were the TDA, KimiIta Remake and Alternative manga ones
Was still Sou designs or the next guy that had to redraw hastily?
>>

I kind of like it, but in a guilty pleasure kind of way.

Personally, I'm not averse to the more realistic, less angular and overstarched to the point of defying gravity hairstyles, but I'll always lament the change in character designers because the original aesthetic was the best in every other aspect, in my opinion, and I'll always be sore that he just had to go and torpedo his own career.
>>
>>23724236
Sadly, it was like that from the beginning. The original designs for Marimo, Chizuru, Sumika, etc., were by Baka-Ouji Persia. Then, for Extra, they changed the artist to Bou but kept the designs, with some alterations, like Sumika's complete sprite and Mikoto's eyes.
>>
>>23724363
So was Bou the one who got busted for tracing?
>>
>>23726246
Nope, it was this dude. Miyata Sou.
>>
>>23726651
I'll always resent him for committing career suicide; his replacement's aesthetic is neither a match nor an improvement.

Total eclipse's anime is any good? youtube just recommended me it's second OP, crazy good.
>>
>>23728723
More like Cassandra, apparently.
>>
>>23729591
The first 2 episodes will make you believe that this is a grimdark war with mechas against the space bugs . But most of the time it will be far from the frontlines, so expect fanservice and Top Gun drama...
>>
>>23729591
It's alright to watch but the anime differs from the VN which apparently also differs from the light novel so I suggest watching the anime then reading the VN then reading the Light novel for fun
>>
>>23730023
The way you describe it reminds me of unlimited lmao.
>>23730059
neat, the LN is translated?
>>
I'm sorry, I thought this was AMERICA
>>
I'm really glad to have left total eclipse last. Going from extra -> unlimited -> alternative, then TDA (so bleak MLA looks like sunshine and rainbows next to it), Schwarze (schizo and the weakest imo) and total eclipse was crazy good (very solid story). Damn, I'd say total eclipse is almost on par or equal to the main trilogy, that's how good it is. I can't imagine the pain of playing this ten years ago and having to wait through the development hell. This franchise is a diamond with the most retarded people in charge.
>>
>>23731162
Please explain to me why you think Total Eclipse is the best. The pacing is awful, half the characters have no character, Yuuya is a racist asshole who never actually changes or gets better, the world just bends around him to justify him, and the ending was thrown together because Miyata Sou fucked the game over with his tracing. I'm legitimately curious why you think it's better than entries like TDA and SM that were at least coherent from start to finish.
>>
>>23731211
The pacing is way better than TDA which feels extremely rushed (despite the good setting and stakes). Yuuya's character is really deep compared to a cardboard like Takeru. He has legit reasons to be racist (abandoned by his father, hated for his origins which turned into self-hatred). He's a selfish bastard running from his responsibilities and that's the whole point. Then he gets a reality check, he learns how the world isn't revolving around him. The end is him sacrificing his own identity of the perfect US patriot he tried so hard to build to get accepted by his peers to save someone else, while the US and URSS were betting on his selfishness. So I don't know what to tell you, I really like the characters. Some are goofy, but you can understand why they are the way they are. Muv-luv is mostly focused on the MC interacting with the gang trying to fit in, while in total eclipse it's the reverse with the gang trying to break the shell of someone living in his own world... and personally I prefer that.
>>
>>23731211
>half the characters have no character
>Yuuya is a racist asshole who never actually changes or gets better
>TDA and SM that were at least coherent from start to finish
TDA isn't even complete and if the characters in TE don't change or are nonexistent then the characters in SM most certainly are not, either. How anyone thinks SM is a good entry or even deserving of a translation is beyond me. You also have to be completely retarded to think Yuuya doesn't change at all.

Just went on pixiv and looked at the muv luv section and It's all ai Gooner stuff have the artist of pen and paper left us.btw would you fuck a beta soldier class if it looked cute or warrior class
>>

I feel disgusted even trying to imagine what a 'cute' Warrior or Soldier class BETA would even look like.
>>
>>23733023
Age already did that with Haiburu.
>>
>>23732904
What's wrong with her? Aside from being AI generated, I mean.

>>23732953
Real artists either got displaced completely or just enough to ragequit in disgust at the sheer prolificacy of AI-generated slop. Either way, generative AI was a mistake.
>>
>>23732953
>Just went on pixiv
that´s your mistake right there, anon.
>>
>>23733349
Explain.
>>
>>23732953
real artists fallaciously assuming a zero sum game between them and ai generated art even though their art gets significantly more attention lmao
>>
>>23733442
The site's memory capacity is limited, you know.
>>
>>23733574
and?
>>
>>23733596
Spamming AIslop will leave no room for actual art, and may even start displacing it if the site decides to take the screwtube option and start deleting older artwork to free up the memory needed for it.
>>
>>23733627
I'm still baffled that Sad Panda allows that kind of content. The site is already full of dupes, and now add AI slop on top, lmao. And with that, they're still limiting how much you can download and asking you to seed.
>>
>>23733627
oh shit my bad I thought I was about to hear an actually good argument about public attention and discoverability of NEW posts not whatever this retarded shit about old posts that are already STORED (not in memory) on dogshit hardware because nobody ever accesses it anyways

When the company itself ruins its own art with AI slop, I don't know what you can expect.
>>

>>
>>23734080
You know maybe as time passes and artists leave us ai is prob the way to go when we wanna see mikoto get railed by a fort class beta or see Meiya drink a gallon of sperm. Ai it may be but the slop gets better day by day and I'm am the biggest Shabbos goy who eats slop.

The Baldr series is kino.
Check out Demonbane, too.

>>
>>23735183
whats wrong with muramasa?
>>
>>23735185
Plot is retarded, characters can be and often are unreasonable/unmotivated, people complain about twizzlers and then go and defend Narahara putting in his deranged fantasies about gang raping and mutilating half of the cast. Setting and theme would've good, otherwise.
>>
>>23735326
Sound like my kinda Vn
>>
>>23735183
where do i find them? steam?
>>
>>23735830
Baldr Sky's on steam, but IIRC you want a patch.

Demonbane's on JAST.

Muramasa's on JAST & GOG, but you might need a patch for the GOG version.
>>
>>23735686
Careful not to cut yourself on that edge, kid.
>>
>>23735892
i thought gog was good because they never censor? like the rance series is completely uncensored on gog right?
>>
>>23737044
Not sure. I've never bought a VN on gog.

There was commentary/complaints on gog/reddit a few years back of it being censored, where JAST was not.

https://help.jastusa.com/en/knowledgebase/article/muramasa-18-patch-for-gog

^ That's the patch for gog if you go that way.

I'd rank Muramasa a bit below Alternative overall, but it's easily above any of the ML spinoffs.
>>
>>23737044
Yeah, commonly at least, the censored version of muramasa was created so it would get approved on steam, but, as you know that didnt happen.
i remember that muramasa used to have the uncensor patch as free dlc (similar to the kara no shojo trilogy) but that's maybe a mandela effect lmao.
>>
>>23737044
>Similar to the kara no shojo trilogy
Same anon here. I just looked on GOG, and all the other Jast USA releases have an uncensor patch, except Muramasa, maybe it wasn't a mandela effect after all, lmao
>>
>>23737983
>kara no shojo trilogy
What's that?
>>
>>23738112
Series of visual novels developed by Innocent Grey, mystery novels set in the 1950s, inspired by the literature of the eroguro movement, specifically by the works of Natsuhiko Kyogoku (and some by Edogawa Ranpo).

It's not really on-topic because there aren't any mecha, lmao, but they do explore some post-war themes. they are cool Search them by "the shell"
