It's the only Gundam where I've been stuck for several years around episode 20ish. Sometimes I pick up an episode and go on, but I cannot care for the plot at all. Too bad because the premise (Gundam terrorists) was great, and the character designs (Relena, Zechs) are also very beautiful. The writing is so bad it makes Tomino looks like a genius.

No. Wing takes itself very seriously while lacking the writing chops to really make its ideas meaningful, much less entertaining. Watching the whole thing was torture to me and a personal lesson for me to never force myself to finish something I genuinely disliked. Then it just kept going on and on and I started to realize that this nonsensical silliness was the actual show and things were not going to get better. I dont know about other countries, but in the US it was the first serious mecha show since Robotech in 1985, and I guess Beast Wars in 96 if you're willing to accept nonhuman toy characters.

I remember reading on old forums that people were initially predicting that the deaths were all going to be edited as being 'sent to the next dimension' or something. Actually showing characters, redshirts or otherwise, being killed was notable.

Also, the philosophizing also made the show seem cultured to the middle schoolers watching Toonami.

It slogs a little bit in the middle when nobody is doing much as some stuff develops in the background, but if you don't enjoy it now then revisit it in a couple years when you have recovered your attention span. The point of Wing is that factions change sides every couple episodes even if it makes no sense(but it does) which keeps things entertaining and chaotic. The first like 8 or 10 episodes is just the prelude to this
