Always has been. The thing was always biomechanical. But even then, it's basically toku. And toku is /m/.

If I remember right Yoshiki Takaya's assistant (a longtime friend) died and he couldn't bring himself to continue the series without him. Takaya is apparently a practicing dentist now. That's the story anyway.

Interestingly, the brand producing this is Max Factory, owned by Max Watanabe, the same guy who's been producing Guyver garage kits, merchandise, and toys since the 80's.

Guyver Zoanoid, is it mecha?

2 is so boring up to the halfway point then it becomes probably the best Wester toku we’ll ever fucking see. The way that design incorporates 3’s colors and spikes, 2s defective control medal, but is still wholly unique is unironically inspired.

Shout out to Max Watanabe again. Dude must be the biggest Guyver fan of all time (he also invented a GunPla painting technique named after him, the 'MAX technique').

Of all the things I like about Guyver (besides the peak aesthetics) it’s the story’s commitment to making Kronos an ever present threat that I think is most unique. It’s something I always pine for in things like kamen rider but they never effectively deliver. Kronos controls everything, it covers up murders, it almost instantly identifies shou and pursues him so relentlessly that he has to drop out of high school and abandon his old life. Shocker and Golgom do sort of similar things but they’re too afraid of upsetting the status quo to really follow through. Even apart from the big scary monsters, you really get a feeling from the story of what an impossible task opposing Kronos really is.

Very well. Steve Wang is great and I don't mean to denigrate him in any way. He directed a really fun movie with Mark Dacascos called 'Drive (1997)' that randomly includes scenes from an awesome fake TV show called 'Walter the Einstein Frog'.

Didn't interpret as though you were. I honestly wish he could get the rights to do a third Guyver film. He's said he wants to do it and has had a script ready for it that he's very proud of but can't because whatever company that owns the film rights (if forget which one) ain't interested in playing ball with him. It does make me wonder how much of it would be based on what arc from the comic. Even though the second film detracts from the comic story more than the first, you can still tell what arc he took inspiration from. I can't help but wonder if he did something similar with that script or just went off on his own thing. Which I wouldn't blame him if he did considering the comic is unfinished and there's a lot that he never even had the chance to touch. The extent of Chronos and how long it's existed, the other Zoalords, the Hyper Zoanoids, other Guyvers, Archanphael, the Engineer's true intentions for mankind and why they abandoned Earth, Appallon. Shitloads of stuff. Wang had a lot he could've played with and made some cool shit out of.

I'd kinda they didn't. It'd feel like they blew their load in that regard with Crane. And Crane died largely due to outside interference. If a Zoalord got one, a proper functioning one, there'd be no chance unless they introduce the Gigantic. But even then you don't need a Guyver Zoalord for that. Just have Balkus be the weakest of them (he almost basically was the american version of Guyot) and have the others much more powerful and less giant monster-ry. And besides, if you go by the comic story, the whole reason why Chronos wants a guyver is so that Archanpheal can use it since it cancels out the Engineers telepathic commands.

One of the interesting things about Guyver is that Sho Fukamashi's life is horrific. His friends being abducted by Chronos, having to kill his own father. You might think you want to be Clark Kent or Peter Parker or Bruce Wayne but you can't possibly want to be some innocent kid with a Guyver unit. You're marked for extermination and the extermination of everyone you care about. Being a Guyver is the antithesis of the superhero trope.

If you like Guyver: Dark Hero you should watch Cyber Ninja (AKA Mirai Ninja AKA Future Ninja) directed by Keita Amemiya. It's on this unfortunately now very expensive DVD set: https://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Collection-1-Yuen-Biao/dp/B001DM37U4 the main character, Shiranui, is so fucking cool (a dead samurai made into a cyborg), and the main antagonist, Shoki, is also so fucking cool. Shoki get's killed about half way through the movie then gets resurrected at the end to continue being so fucking cool. I'm pretty sure Steve Wang was inspired by Keita Amemiya (he directed many toku tv shows and movies).

I don't mind the idea of a more conventional, techy redesign of the armor, but I dislike how overly boxy it is. I also dislike much it reminds me of Sentinel's Fighting Armor Iron Man, which was also an overly boxy redesign of a streamlined suit.

Anyway Steve Wang announced a 4k remaster of dark hero so get ready to see those awesome suits in HD for the first time

It's literally a crossover with an existing plamo based line. That's why he looks so different.
