Always has been. The thing was always biomechanical. But even then, it's basically toku. And toku is /m/.

If I remember right Yoshiki Takaya's assistant (a longtime friend) died and he couldn't bring himself to continue the series without him. Takaya is apparently a practicing dentist now. That's the story anyway.

Interestingly, the brand producing this is Max Factory, owned by Max Watanabe, the same guy who's been producing Guyver garage kits, merchandise, and toys since the 80's.

2 is so boring up to the halfway point then it becomes probably the best Wester toku we’ll ever fucking see. The way that design incorporates 3’s colors and spikes, 2s defective control medal, but is still wholly unique is unironically inspired.

Shout out to Max Watanabe again. Dude must be the biggest Guyver fan of all time (he also invented a GunPla painting technique named after him, the 'MAX technique').
>>
>>23719829
Of all the things I like about Guyver (besides the peak aesthetics) it’s the story’s commitment to making Kronos an ever present threat that I think is most unique. It’s something I always pine for in things like kamen rider but they never effectively deliver. Kronos controls everything, it covers up murders, it almost instantly identifies shou and pursues him so relentlessly that he has to drop out of high school and abandon his old life. Shocker and Golgom do sort of similar things but they’re too afraid of upsetting the status quo to really follow through. Even apart from the big scary monsters, you really get a feeling from the story of what an impossible task opposing Kronos really is.

Very well. Steve Wang is great and I don't mean to denigrate him in any way. He directed a really fun movie with Mark Dacascos called 'Drive (1997)' that randomly includes scenes from an awesome fake TV show called 'Walter the Einstein Frog'.
>>
>>23727639
>Steve Wang is great and I don't mean to denigrate him in any way
Didn't interpret as though you were. I honestly wish he could get the rights to do a third Guyver film. He's said he wants to do it and has had a script ready for it that he's very proud of but can't because whatever company that owns the film rights (if forget which one) ain't interested in playing ball with him. It does make me wonder how much of it would be based on what arc from the comic. Even though the second film detracts from the comic story more than the first, you can still tell what arc he took inspiration from. I can't help but wonder if he did something similar with that script or just went off on his own thing. Which I wouldn't blame him if he did considering the comic is unfinished and there's a lot that he never even had the chance to touch. The extent of Chronos and how long it's existed, the other Zoalords, the Hyper Zoanoids, other Guyvers, Archanphael, the Engineer's true intentions for mankind and why they abandoned Earth, Appallon. Shitloads of stuff. Wang had a lot he could've played with and made some cool shit out of.
>>
>>
>>
>>23727670
I'd kinda they didn't. It'd feel like they blew their load in that regard with Crane. And Crane died largely due to outside interference. If a Zoalord got one, a proper functioning one, there'd be no chance unless they introduce the Gigantic. But even then you don't need a Guyver Zoalord for that. Just have Balkus be the weakest of them (he almost basically was the american version of Guyot) and have the others much more powerful and less giant monster-ry. And besides, if you go by the comic story, the whole reason why Chronos wants a guyver is so that Archanpheal can use it since it cancels out the Engineers telepathic commands.

One of the interesting things about Guyver is that Sho Fukamashi's life is horrific. His friends being abducted by Chronos, having to kill his own father. You might think you want to be Clark Kent or Peter Parker or Bruce Wayne but you can't possibly want to be some innocent kid with a Guyver unit. You're marked for extermination and the extermination of everyone you care about. Being a Guyver is the antithesis of the superhero trope.
>>
>>23727706
If you like Guyver: Dark Hero you should watch Cyber Ninja (AKA Mirai Ninja AKA Future Ninja) directed by Keita Amemiya. It's on this unfortunately now very expensive DVD set: https://www.amazon.com/Ninja-Collection-1-Yuen-Biao/dp/B001DM37U4 the main character, Shiranui, is so fucking cool (a dead samurai made into a cyborg), and the main antagonist, Shoki, is also so fucking cool. Shoki get's killed about half way through the movie then gets resurrected at the end to continue being so fucking cool. I'm pretty sure Steve Wang was inspired by Keita Amemiya (he directed many toku tv shows and movies).

I don't mind the idea of a more conventional, techy redesign of the armor, but I dislike how overly boxy it is. I also dislike much it reminds me of Sentinel's Fighting Armor Iron Man, which was also an overly boxy redesign of a streamlined suit.

As long as it doesn't screw with the framerate, remastering it in 4k shouldn't be an issue. It'll just mean the picture quality will be in greater resolution. You'd probably still be able to watch it on a CRT television and it'd look just fine.

i'm actually kinda partial to the iron man design, gives this idea of an organization that doesn't have access to the Bio tech that Kronos has. The best of cutting edge tech still has this " built from scraps in a cave" comparison to the actually guyver. it's trying it's best .

While I'd kill for another live action attempt at Guyver, Hollywood would want in on it, and modern Hollywood overthinks the stupidest shit, they'd probably think audiences wouldn't buy the idea of Kronos or the Guyver units

Oh for sure they'd slather lots and lots of irony into it because for some reason, American film & TV writers can't do serious unless it's about "mental health" or whatever and last I checked Guyver was a pretty grim story
>>
>>23758351
>>23758533
That's only under the assumption that it'd be a major studio to do it. So far in the west the only entity who actually has an interest at doing it is Steve Wang. And if he got the film rights from Shueisha, or whoever owns the film rights, back you can bet he'd do it independently like he did the first two times. Only now he'd probably be able to put in a bigger budget since it's a lot easier to get crowdfunding these days as opposed to the 90s when it didn't even exist.
>>
>>23758440

>they'd probably think audiences wouldn't buy the idea of Kronos or the Guyver units
Kronos is a megacorp conglomerate that has influence to cover up it's more nefarious endeavors and the Guyver Units are ancient alien technology that makes the user an unstoppable killing machine, how incapable are you of suspending your disbelief on those basic ideas?
The thing I'd be concerned about is some executives thinking the Guyver suit needs to be full on tactical armor when it's supposed to ostensibly be a biological weapon rather than a full tech one

>Even if he does, they'll be millions of years more advanced than he remembers, how does he expect his outdated zoanoids to contend with whatever they've come up with or evolved into since then?
>Assuming they Uranus even still exist at all, which he has no proof of
>Wouldn't Sho and Agito be totally cool with helping them with this plan, since it means Cronos would just fuck off from Earth and leave them alone?
>Who is Apollyon? Best guess from me is Imakarum working secretly for Alk
>>
>>23758578
You'd be surprised, there are people out there with an autistic obsession over their fiction (especially Genre fiction) being as realistic as possible (you can thank Christopher Nolan & the Game of Thrones guys for that btw) because anything "too out there" breaks their "immersion" or whatever.
Those same people would absolutely nitpick the idea of Kronos being around for centuries and nobody finding out about it before the present and never shut up about it either, they'd also want detailed over explaining of how the Units worked

The end of story arcs always end in some kind of cliffhanger/with things still to be wrapped up to be honest. but you could stop after volume 8, the the first chapter of volume 10, or the end of volume 25 if you really wanted to.
if you want the bad ending another option is to also stop after the first chapter of volume 9 whenchronos takes over the world

Yeah. They claim it was about trying to give back to the creator or some shit... But really, they were just pissed about people uploading their scanlations to the big sites... So they kept the last couple volumes that had been released. it got so dumb that they would also charge people for a volume a "buy" one themselves to "support" the creator. It got pretty scammy before they exploded the site and someone else took over.
Eventually someone else finished the remaining volumes publicly.
>>23807177
Surprisingly, no one ever actually released them until after when the original person in charge uploaded them to their own site... But they did that long after the volumes had been done by someone else. The ones used there were the other fan translated ones.
I still hope that someone better goes and redoes the old volumes... The Advocacy's translations were pretty bad until the later volumes when they got someone better.

I know how much some anons hate localizations, but I kind of wish there was enough market demand for VIZ Media to regain the Guyver license. I’m pretty sure they can do better than Guyver Advocacy. They gave FotNS a 2nd chance, so what is VIZ waiting for, a new Guyver manga chapter for the first time in about a decade?
