The one constant about UC Gundam is that there is that crazy, violent ideologues will never run out of arms manufacturers willing to fund their antics.

Quack Salver is a high level EF General under a pseudonym. Mufti is basically a private army dressed up as "terrorists". The intention was basically a coup to kill off all the current EF congress member. I don't think the novel ever went into the details of the plan afterward.

For the smaller stuff, doesn't he get away with using his family credit card, due to his dad being a famous Federation official? The movie says its purchase history is untraceable and it has near-bottomless credit.

Took battle-worn clothes off the Argama when he was a kid and sold them to Charwank collectors for trillions

>>23726435
For the bigger stuff, it's >>23725384, plus Anaheim's usual double dealing. Overcharge the Federation to build the Penelope, use the excess to build the Xi, give the Xi to terrorists at a deep discount and now you have an attack that's going to convince the Federation they need to buy even more mobile suits. The Federation knows that Anaheim is doing this, but Anaheim's the only game in town. It's not until enough reformists get their way to form SNRI that the Federation's finally able to ditch their reliance on Anaheim.

I really want the inevitable Unicorn sequel to tackle this the most.
>>
>>23726468
Why doesn't the federation (or whoever they're fighting) just seize control of Anaheim?
>>
>>23726546
You'd have to find someone who's not taking bribes from Anaheim in the first place to even voice the idea and they'll have their career instantly ended by the ones who do.
>>
>>23726546
feds never had truly strong leaders who were willing to shake things up. they're all old bureaucrats who are fine with keeping the status quo (quiet corruption and backroom deals). hell, some of them probably made big bucks being lobbyists for anaheim or paid off to vote one way or another

none of the other factions ever really had a reason to go after anaheim. Haman's Zeon had the most reason to do it since they could gain technical facilities and a place to dock their fleet for an extended war on the feds, so I guess that's a failing on their part.
>>
>>23726546
Just like in real life, there is no hard and fast distinction between government and private industry. Anaheim is allowed to do what they do because it makes a lot of people in the Federation a lot of money. They don't mind if a few cities get smooshed (Dublin) every now and then. Remember, they intend to be the only people on the planet by the end of the 2nd century UC.

The Titans almost did and threatened to do it several times. But the Titans were too busy with the AEUG to follow up with their threats.
>>
>>23726743
basically trump style threats so anaheim would give them stuff for free

was it actually a thing in the novel about bright arranging for scrubbing/falsifying the data records from the jegan that hathaway stole?

like maybe there were too many witnesses so that they couldn't claim hathaway never stole the jegan in the first place, but somehow they ended up making it so that hathaway was responsible for taking down the alpha azieru, because it was impossible or would have been very fishy if they said he entered the warzone in a jegan and returned to the ra cailum hours later and absolutely nothing happened at all

>>23727929
That was from some Unicorn-related side material though. In Tomino's novel, it picks up from BC instead of CCA. In that timeline, Chan didn't exist, and Hathaway was the one who killed Quess, which made him a hero in the Federation, at the cost of his sanity.

The EFF had in-house development teams but they turned them all over to the Titans and had to gut them all after Gryps.

There's a faction in the Federation that's fomenting chaos against the Federation. Quacksalver (literally means a fraudulent doctor) is the true mastermind behind Mafty, and the person who indoctrinated Hathaway and exposed him to the Federation's corruption. He's a EFF general who's good at moving the federation's money and resources around into bottomless pits. So yeah, Hathaway's Flash is lowkey another internal conflict within the Federation.
>>
>>23725384
The endgoal of Mafty is basically trying to make the EFF do its original job of immigrating everyone off of Earth. In that sense, it's different from other big rebellions who always want to take control or dismantle the EFF.
>>

Along everything else mentioned here, doesn't Side 3 also back them?

>>
>>23730807
That's their ideal. How would even killing all the current EFF congress member achieve that unless whoever was working with quacksalver replaced the government with "spacenoid" factions, making essentially mafty a bloody coup. It sounds to me the aim was more likely just to destroy the EFF central authority, betting on the EFF basically would be too weak and confused to bother fighting back in any substantial manner and the colonies will achieve essentially self-rule in all but name.

Except they already did. There's a conversation in the novels about how the Federation thinks 10 million people or something could live on the Earth and that's considered high by the cast. The Earth is largely depopulated in the UC100s.
