I've always assumed that the bigger beam weapons like the magnum and mega/hyper mega particle type weapons "beam" is just the only part that is visible to the naked eye, and that there's a significantly larger portion that surrounds it thats still super dangerous.

That's just always been how I've rationalized all those cool shots of a big beam passing through a crowd of dudes then they explode a second later despite not being touched directly.

Is it stupid? Yes. Did it only happen one time? Yes.

In Unicorn, the Gundam powers up to super saiyan red and super saiyan green every other episode. It becomes an actual shonen because the suits on sunrise/bandai said that’s what’s selling, not “real robot”.

Unicorn is profoundly stupid, and the best parts of Unicorn are unironically the nostalgia-wank when OYW suits show up.

The years of OYW and Zeta wank pieces have put way more focus on Newtypes as they were still around then. And writers always feel the need to escalate over previously written works to make their entry talked about.
For a comparison, look at the old Star Wars EU and how the wars/events started at a bit below the OT level, then kept going up, with a spike again after the PT was made.

Phenex and Narrative can rewind time too, butin Phenex case, it has to shit out a visible psycofield that rewind time A-packs but A-packs is moving so fast that it crumbled when it hit the right side, and was blocked with Narrative's psyco jammer.
