If the Psycho Frame was removed, do Unicorn Gundam still a powerful mobile suit?

yes because having magic crystals wasn't enough so Fukui also wrote that the unicorn has a miniaturized i-field, stronger servos than any other mobile suit and thrusters that can output enough force to push the Kshatriya back on a head-on collision

Psycoframe literally enhances the output of the motors and the structural integrity of the frame. The Mobile Suit Archive entry for the Unicorn Gundams explains that the motors have psycoframe in them to enhance their function

This. It would technically be a strong mobile suit since it's base specs are through the roof, beam magnum alone makes it better than most rivals. But it's portrayed as notoriously difficult to pilot in universe even before the newtype super powers

>Remember how oldtypes struggled massively to control it? With no psycoframe, it would be a pain in the ass to control for anybody.
This is such an old trope. They really need to retire it from Gundam.
Muh..."we built s mobile suit so powerful that it kills most people who use it, and only a special pilot can control it!" trope.
If anything, Unicorn Gundam would tear ITSELF apart long before killing the pilot. There are many examples in history where the airplane frame couldn't take the high G stress, and cracked. Sometimes on the first test flight.

Magicless Unicorn would be a slight improvement over a magicless Nu Gundam.
Beam magnum compatibility would still be a factor but it'd deplete it's power quickly so it'd still be something that can serve a role of being overwhelming in small scale battles or giving an edge in duels but in extended battles where you want your aces to be continuously contributing I'd see people opting for regular beam rifles, so it'd be like a slight better Nu.
So great for the purpose it's made for, but wouldn't be so exceptional that you'd expect it to out perform Gundams of later generations.

Magicless Unicorn would be a maintenance nightmare on the battlefield. Hundreds of motors and actuators would need to be checked and re-checked after every battle. Every single moving armor panel and sliding joint needs constant maintenance. Imagine trying to switch from Unicorn to Destroy mode but the faceplate gets jammed due to a damaged motor. Or one of the legs doesn't extend. Or of the boosters doesn't come out. This is the reality of warfare and Tomino actually uses this idea a few times with faulty equipment.
I'm honestly surprised this wasn't addressed during the Unicorn anime. The Unicorn pretty much goes, what, 6 episodes without maintenance? I'm surprised it didn't breakdown at some point.

Honestly this is what's missing from modern Gundam. A sense of grittiness and realism. No I don't mean dark and sad. I mean realism. Like Unicorn never gets maintenance and no one should be able to give it maintenance because no one else except a handful of technicians at Vist Foundation should be able to repair it. Same with Gundam Seed. How come entire Gundams are able to lose arms and legs but then return to the mothership and are magically fixed by the next episode? Like you said, Tomino actually used the idea of maintenence in several episodes where MS mechanics said they were out of parts or it was impossible to repair some suits.

technically yes, reminder that it demolished Kshatriya's hands when its still in Unicorn mode, its basically has higher specs than Nu Gundam
