My involvement in EQD has gradually decreased over the years but I still visit occasionally to check out drawfriend and comics updates, mostly out of habit, as there are better ways to get your media nowadays. With the complete lack of news, the website doesn't really have a purpose anymore.
Still, EQD is a symbol of old times, of 2010 era internet. It was the first page I landed on after discovering bronies exist. For a long time it served me as an entry point to all things pony. Seth retiring is a reminder that all things come to an end, and EQD will probably follow shortly. I don't want to think about the time when /mlp/ will eventually end. Where will I go? Twitter, reddit, discord, derpibooru? After spending time here, every other community feels artificial and restrictive, caring more about identities than content.

There's interesting stuff scattered throughout the archives but it can't be explored by only a handful. It's also good to foster an interest in doing so among newer fans. You may be "too new" to know, but not to start looking.

That's the thing. They only get made within a day or two of the event happening. It doesn't get made if it's remembered too late. It's been a very spontaneous affair so far and would've been better if some work was put into maintaining a timeline over the years as things are rediscovered.

The idea for collaboration has been thrown around before but wasn't sure how to go about doing that. Two main issues: some substantial work should be done to show that it isn't yet another "ideas" thread that never gets off the ground. The other is that it's easy for a project like this to be mostly headed by one person, essentially becoming that person's sole perspective of the fandom's history. (And mind you, I wasn't even around in the early days. I just researched a lot to the point where I willed myself to live it daily.)

All that, and there's always irl work. That's why I was hoping it would've caught on by itself. Not a good assumption these days of course.

It's funny but I have literally never used any of these sites. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok... also BlueSky. Besides very rarely visiting them to look at something MLP related someone posted on there I have not once set foot there. And everytime I see anything that's not an MLP drawing coming from it I am more and more convinced I'm better off for it.

In the past 4chan was filled with people like me. People who despised social media and sites where you have to create an identity. I wonder how many people like me are still left today.
