Well, I'm admittedly not exactly well-versed in this sphere. Apart from older classics and some niche stuff, I'm pretty much out of the loop. Especially when it comes to recent content. I think I didn't keep track of anything that was released in the last ten years or so, except for pony and a small selection of games. Which reference did I miss this time?

I've got to admit that this is an option which I haven't considered. It would be one hell of a way to give Discord what he asked for without giving him what he actually wanted. And I'm sure Discord would at least respect that turnaround for the sake of the craft itself, even when it would absolutely tick him off.

Discord has no control over Anon or his actions, and his influence does not reach Anon's proxy or any other external component. He only has full creative control over his isolated pocket within the system, meaning that he can set the stage and determine how "reality" manifests itself for others in his personal instance of the simulation. As such, Anon has no direct influence on the scenery itself, but he retains the ability to come and go as he pleases. So when he finally decided to depart, Discord had no means to stop him. He could only pick how this departure is represented in his world. So he chose to see Anon getting flushed out as a farewell trick. He could have also chosen to let Anon explode in a cloud of confetti or watch him phase out like a ghost. The end result would've been the same.

Don't get excited about it. Probably some bot scapring/trying over and over since it was on the first page for a while for example. I run an archive site and from time to time I get unusual traffic spikes on random pages. Like 10-100k requests on a single page for no apparent reason.

Essentially because he had the goal of getting a physical manifestation in Equestria in mind, and he assumed that Anon was the most susceptible person to start with. It wouldn't do much for him to talk to #deca.mare first, considering that she can practically read him like a book if she wants to. Firefly would be a tough conversation partner as well, and Sky Squall even more so. To him, Anon was the best first pick of the four.

In the short term, yes. But their bonds will become stronger when they weather Discord's mischief eventually. Which will create a beneficial outcome in the long run for them as well. Keep in mind that Discord doesn't do anything fatal too. His aim is to irritate ponies and to expose them to his machinations, not to destroy them. He would gain nothing from that.

Still, I tend to keep track of the numbers on each update to get at least a vague idea of how active each individual part is, so imagine my surprise to see this drastic uptick. I had to check the number twice to make sure that I wasn't hallucinating.
