Fire of Love [Ruby, 1981]
Mix slide guitar with loose talk about sex, death, and, er, Negroes, and pass yourselves off as the Rolling Stones of the nuevo wavo. Wish I could claim absence of merit, but in fact it has its tunelessly hooky allure. No matter how seriously Jeffrey Lee Pierce pretends not to take it, though, I'll take it less seriously than that--and more. B

I get the impression that cuckgau wanted to like it but got triggered when Jeff said nigger.

Anyway, Jack White got everything from this band and The Cramps, but Fire of Love still only gets a B while, with all the hype surrounding it, he gave White Blood Cells an A.

i dont think ive ever listened to the white stripes, mostly because i thought that seven nation army song was very silly. are they that gun club-adjacent?

I'm a zoomer and I absolutely venerate the Gun Club. they've made me a rock & roll and blues freak when I discovered them during the pandemic, before I only listened to underground rap. Never looked back

u think? he was a freak but maybe he was, really, a very pained aspie.

Great album, solid band. Pixies took their entire sound from this guy but no one likes to credit him because he said Nigger with the hard r a lot. The documentary about him is one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen in my life. Was expecting some lame, hagiographic shit like 99% of all these but instead his ex bandmates just trade increasingly absurd stories about him and how they still fantasize about getting to punch him in the face. This dude was so fucking wild he would have been a living legend if he were alive during the internet. Just constantly baiting the audience and nearly getting his band killed causing brawls and doing a shit ton of drugs at all times. Completely unable to function in the world except he could write good songs and had this outsized powerful voice for a small, fat mexican dude. The surprising thing is that he lasted as long as he did lmao most people like this end up in the 27 club. Worth a laugh if you have an hour to kill:

>This isn't half bad for a band I got upset at because I made up a scenario in my head in which they say the N word
Niggerworship really is the axiom of the boomer experience isn't it now

>his ex bandmates just trade increasingly absurd stories about him and how they still fantasize about getting to punch him in the face.
i remember being really entertained by that documentary lol. they compare him to a gay best friend at one point its so funny. i love this guy

Jack White's guitar sound is basically just going-on 30 years of copying this album, other than that not really. The White Stripes aren't that good but many of their songs are way better than 7 Nation Army.

I'm thankful this isn't the case but you'd think with the mainstreaming of lolcow obsession, this guy would get acknowledged from that alone. I'm surprised there isn't some shitty video essay about it. Again, also thankful.

Violento Femmes nada The Fall influenced pixies too iml
>>
truly one of the greats
one of the bands that actually deserve the 9/10 scaruffi gave them
they also influenced a shit ton of artists pixies nirvana white stripes etc. but were too based for normies to get it.
yeah yeah he says the word but its blues and old shit and plenty of old blues songs also have the word. but yeah he reminds me of dr john
it aint like he spams saying nigger lots its a handful of times and two songs i think??? its done tastefully, it isn't some ragebait its art.
>>
also didn't he pull up to some rural english pub with a samurai sword beefing some cunts over money? seems like a total legend not some puffter
>>129314808
yeah i aint black btw
>>
and Feminem is still too chickenshit to use that word
>>
blues is an aching old heart diseassee BLUUUEEESSSS is an aching ol heart disease

>SOME CREOLE BOY WAS LYIN DEAD I USED HIS BLOOD TO PAINT THE COSTUME RED HEHEYYY
>IM BLACK AND WHITE
>I WAS HUNTIN FOR NIGGERS DOWN IN THE DARK
>this guy is still relatively obscure even for 4chan standards
how? i thought chuds would be creaming for him, he fits the proto alt right rockstar type well. i also like his controversy because all the best bands shouldn't be safe for radio or npc friendly
>>
>>129312990
Now that's what a docu should be. Stories from guys who lived and worked with him, not rock stars trying to convince you some band was important even though they never sold.
>>
>>
>>129314881
Chuds seem to have rejected them cause they for the most part have pretty shit taste.

He did, and pussy ass UK police sent a fucking helicopter after him lmfao
Dude was a complete sperg but without any social inhibition. Nick Cave said he would rant about the Vietnam war, Proust and dinosaurs for hours on end (his special interests). Wim Wenders was such a fan he said that Paris, Texas was partly inspired by the Gun Club. Billy Idol wrote White Wedding as a response to Mother Of Earth. He was famous in the Netherlands but virtually unknown in his native LA, yet had the respect of every fucking band that ever walked the west coast. Some people even claimed he was the one to inspire the look of teased blonde hair with boho/biker accessories that latter sleazier Sunset Strip hair metal bands had. He got it all from imitating Debbie Harry, who was his idol since he was a teen, and later Debbie Harry would idolize him, write songs in his tribute after he had passed. This guy reached far, far beyond his grasp, he was the Gram Parsons of the 80s
Here's his last performance before dying, almost a zombie but still giving it all
