Music criticism can be a good way of getting introduced to artists you'd otherwise never have encountered. Back when I was still subscribed to Fantano I only watched the videos for stuff I'd never heard of, and if he made it sound interesting I'd listen to it.
Unfortunately in the modern age the majority of people only want to have their opinions validated/a reason to get angry and lash out if their opinions aren't validated.

not him but the envelope might not suit the arrangement of other sounds at that moment in the song, like maybe the attack is too short so the sound arrives too abruptly and not in sync with the drums. at the end of the day it comes down to taste but analyzing the aspects of a sound or composition that you/like and dislike is intellectualization. and it's not like music critique is limited to its sonic characteristics, music evokes emotion so attempting to characterize the elements of the music that contribute to a particular feeling is also intellectualization. there's also lyrics in a lot of music, so relating the words used to the sound itself is also intellectualization. you can also contextualize the music to the time/place/people that created it. there's really a lot of ways to intellectualize music now that I think about it.
