“I kept watching Marty play, listening to what was coming out of his guitar, and... well... I crumbled. I don't know how else to say it. He was better than me—more talented, more committed, more... everything. Watching Marty made me realize that I'd been slacking. I had not progressed as an artist. I had stagnated. That realization was more than I could bear, and to handle it I turned once again to the warm embrace of heroin and cocaine.”

I found someone on reddit with BPD who said they found Dave extremely relatable

Dave has plenty of insane shit from this interview
https://youtu.be/sfOWEKfVGQQ?si=qk1-GAIVoAbNWvZz&t=1468
he'd get spanked by his brother in laws
there's a segment where Dave says he did witchcraft on a schoolboy that beat him and but doesn't want to confess what exactly happened to the boy after the witchcraft
https://youtu.be/sfOWEKfVGQQ?si=GXn1nYy22EKMlOf8&t=2352
he heard his alcoholic father would abuse his mum

James and Lars were the first time he had some sort of stability, place to call home belonging there, and family. The tl; dr says it all
>"Let me clarify it for you; I had nothing, then I had everything... then I had nothing again".
It speaks volumes, man. Newsted would laugh at what he set in motion; he was the proof there was a pattern.
>>
>>129317244
It's exactly that; fucker had nothing as a kid (even inheriting clothes from older siblings) and as family was on the run because daddy was a future murderer in the process with mommy as the victim.
>>129317535
Oof... and I always wonderer what was of his siblings, he barely mentioned them.
>>
>>
>>129320132
his sister was one that helped raise him. she was way older than him and he basically lived with her during his adolescence. i'm guessing something bad had to have happened for him not to speak to her for 20 years
>>
>>129320136
James and Lars are colossal faggots, anybody else victim of the moves they pulled could've easily ended in suicide. They really lucked out those 2 persons were a guy taken over by hatred that luckily turned into one of the most inspirational displays of determination in mankind history and the other was the biggest bro and most loyal squire you could ask for your band.

>what was of his siblings
He still has one of his sisters he talks to but...
https://youtu.be/sfOWEKfVGQQ?si=WmDWaYi7E6CQjHE_&t=1261
sister transition into, you know, into death. Um, and then the the uh youngest
21:09
one who's a little bit older than me, um, she's uh got a little bit of a mental illness. So, um, I don't know
21:16
what you would call if it's depression or if it's, you know, what. I don't I don't know. But,
21:22
um, we still talk, but she kind of talks like a baby when she talks to
21:29
me. So, um, that's a little weird. And, um, you know, every family has this
21:34
stuff. We all do.
The middle sister he didn't talk to because she said he'd end up just like his dad
https://youtu.be/sfOWEKfVGQQ?si=AOajUklfn7kz05IQ&t=2722
45:28
coma. And um he was in the fetal position. And I walked into my sister Suzanne, the middle one, cuz you're
45:34
going to end up just like daddy. And I I I hated her from that moment on. Before then, I I didn't I didn't hate her. I I
45:42
uh was confused why she had ostracized me. But when she said that, I just
45:47
figured you're just rotten and I I not going to have anything to do with you
45:53
anymore. And we stayed out of touch for a very long time.
and the oldest sister
https://youtu.be/sfOWEKfVGQQ?si=lPmqI9_sFTLddQFd&t=784
13:10
the other two were 15 and 18 years older than me and are both deceased.
13:17
Were you close with them? Uh the oldest one? Yeah. But after a while because
13:22
they were um following the guidelines of their religion and I was supposedly a
13:28
worldly person and they uh did what their religion calls for. I was
13:33
dysfellowshipped um not uh officially but basically I was
13:41
not allowed to be around anybody. Couldn't I couldn't come to meetings. I
13:46
couldn't go to uh witnesses houses and stuff like that. And I didn't care because I hated that religion.

You know what? After watching this clip again years and being older, I actually sympathize with him now.
I used to goof on this shit and thought it was ridiculous that he whined so much about this despite selling over 20 million albums and forming one of the most revered metal bands on his own, but I get it now. He didn’t have much growing up and found comradery with a band that was going places, and they knew they were about to fire him while partying with him the night before. I see it with a different perspective now that I’m older. It’s the betrayal.
>>

>>129326295
While I do sympathize with Dave, I can’t help but wonder how many of the members he kicked out for addiction issues also went through depression like he has. He doesn’t see to have an issue with that.

For Gar, Dave justifies as him being happier out of the band.
https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/news/general_music_news/dave_mustaine_ speaks_on_why_he_had_to_fire_early_ megadeth_members_talks_how_marty_fr iedman_behaved_at_audition.html
"The lineup changes for Peace Sells didn't take place until the tour was over, and I think that happened because we just were so different from each other. Gar was a lovable person and he was a fantastic drummer, but he was clearly unhappy.
"He was unhappy with his job at B.C. Rich, he was unhappy drumming for us, and I think that he was a very creative person, and he wanted to have his own band, have his own studio, and that's why after we parted ways he went down to Florida and developed a second approach to having a career in the metal business, which I was really happy for him.
"But there was also the other part of that. When we were getting ready to go on tour, we always had to go with Gar and Chris, and a handful of hundreds of dollars around town to go find all of our equipment...
"Because they would take stuff - they didn't care, they knew it wasn't theirs, they knew it was mine, they knew it was stuff that they played on, but we got them, or stuff that they got, that they figured, 'Oh, hock it, I'll get another one, I'll do this, I'll do that...'
"By the time it was time for us to get home, I couldn't say the words fast enough, 'You're fired.'...

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-features/megadeth-dave-mustai ne-number-one-album-essay-123551022 4/
Year after year, the fiery frontman has fueled Megadeth albums by drawing from a deep well of underdog jealousy — envy of the crossover success of a band he co-founded (cough, Metallica, cough)and bitter contempt for any and every artist ahead of him on the Billboard chart. (This means you, Billy Ray Cyrus, since nobody has built more with an aching, broken heart than Dave Mustaine.) But now, four decades after releasing the metal gem “Wake Up Dead,” Dave woke up a winner.
“After 40 years of delivering Megadeth music, playing shows around the world, I have nothing but gratitude at this moment,” he said of the news in an uncharacteristically humble statement. “Finding out that our last Megadeth record is also our first Number One only further validates my will to go out on top.”

This is what pisses me off; they refuse to actually apologize when even subconsciously James and Lars knew it was the wrong way. You don't feel guilt when you do the right thing.
Still went with it and +20 years later never saw them making real ammends.
>>129326369
There's an angle for that; to avoid enviroments that would drag you down further down that path and early Megadeth was already very chaotic. There's also the chance his hatred was that big of a factor driving him. But for the most part it seemed contained looking back since Mustaine was pretty logical about the band's direction. I'm willing to assume that it was line he draw after the shitfest with Metallica
>>
>>
>>129329670
Sure, but also maybe Metallica saw that brewing too. If Mustaine had stayed I reallly doubt Metallica would have stayed together for much longer. It really doesn’t seem like Dave really changed much over the years and there were control issues in the band.
It’s also interesting to note that Cliff dying was probably the reason why Lars stayed. Apparently Clitf couldn’t stand him and James, Cliff, and Kirk were planning to kick out Lars before the bus accident.

Lars owns Metallica. If anything Cliff being displeased was because he saw what they did with Mustaine.

you see, Lars is secretly Magneto and could control the bus all this time

The rumour has circulated for years. Scott Ian said he heard about (he used to hang out with Kirk a lot) and Kirk said there was some tension between Lars and the other three during the Puppets era but said it was a little overblown.
