I thought LOTTO was an interesting change of direction for such a maximalist band… the Unwound, Slint, IN UTERO influences outpaced the usual Swirlies meets Jungle/Breakcore stuff… still, not a patch on the likes of DESTINY XL and LUCKY STYLES… the Fugazi cover was a cool nod, but wholly unnecessary… if you’re committed to giving us between 22-27 minutes of new music per release then I demand a little more

last shoegaze i listened to was picrel last night. highly rec. closer to noise pop or Slumberland, packs a punch at the right times
Popsicle - "Undulate"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7oUk_qg7vg
would love recs for any feelgood/poppy shoegaze, power pop influence. feels like there's a lot of slowcore/slacker/depression in the genre, understandably, just looking to feel happy a bit
here's another one that manages to be cautiously upbeat
Launder - "Chipper"

Really like the guitar sound on this album, very crisp and punchy, nice pop like melodies too.

heck yeah Pictures of Health was a top 3 album for me last year. Do you like Autumn Rhythm? very similar, I think they have done a song together or something. the 2024 album is better than 2025 if you ask me but all good stuff, prefer this chord driven music to the washed out sad whammygaze

For dream pop, I've had Beach House's self-titled LP on repeat lately. I think it's very underrated relative to their other releases. It's a little more raw and it's clear they're still finding their sound. I like that, personally. Not a big fan of RYM but it's sitting at 3.34/5, which is insane to me.

highly recommend the Blackwater Holylight and Tijuana Taxi albums it really isn't that grim they both bring a certain dark, heavy uniqueness to the genre that gets away from the typical sound a lot of people complain about with the genre
>>
>>
>>129334435
Those both made me realize lowkey how big of an impact true widow has had on the genre. They should get more attention.

probably had a big role in guitar dissonance and unorthodox tunings. A lot of their lesser known albums have a lot of what shoegaze going on with them. MBV also cites the Beach Boys as a primary influence too.
I don't think any one band influenced what shoegaze became it's just certain aspects of it like you could say Sonic Youth's noise rock with Beach Boys' pop hooks is what Jesus & Mary Chain was going for
