I was thinking of picking up one of those cheapo Aliexpress carbon forks, but my buddy probably rightfully talked me out of it due to safety concerns.
Where should I buy an affordable carbon fork in 26" for rim brakes (in Yurop)?

Good luck, grandpa!
>>
just search ebay for a pace or exotic

or wound up if you wanna be swag

carbon is mostly weak around the corners due to the internal radius being too wrinkly and containing voids.
older bikes use an lugged construction, only problem is that the lugs bonded surface must be kept free of water and air,
eg the paint around the joint must be perfect, any cracked or bubbling paint is an slightly bad sign.

I don't understand what the target market for those is, but they're nice looking forks
>>
>>2052100
Those look twice as heavy as my stock CrMo forks, desu...

there is no timeline overlap between v-brakes and cheap carbon. even among chinks, it's almost impossible to find even a quick release carbon fork nowadays.

One of these is from an (originally factory team exclusive) leading brand's xc world cup fork, the other from a chinese fork; price relation is 10:1. Can that buddy of yours who's an expert in csrbon forks tell which is which?

Worth it for the drip
>>
>>2053169
Post the price, if you dare.

Anyway, I opted for an alu fork for my current build.
>>
>>2053752
dude its like 150-200€
how broke are you?
>>
>>2053726
It would help to know the year each one was manufactured, but you would probably consider that cheating
>>
>>2053755
a bike shouldn't cost more than $200 fully built

Is this the "confusingly expensive forks" thread?

Just get the $40 alloy one. It looks like a garbon fork and is light.

Why would that actually matter, though?

I've purchased 2 Hylix CF forks with alumium steer tube from feebay and had no issues. I just commute and dont hop curbs or abuse them deliberately but have hit a few potholes. Ok so far. They are the rim brake variety like what you posted but no positions for disc brakes.

Anecdotal evidence is anecdotal but if you're not racing or beating on them or doing doordash and a brazillion miles on them I'd say go for it.
>>
>>2055053
I'd kinds beat on them, they're meant for a gravel bike.
>>
>>2052080
I'll buy a carbon saddle or seatpost from chinkmarket with little thought. I'll even buy carbon rims, with a little bit of research first. I'd never fucking buy any kind of suspension from that shit, unless there's a mountain of western based reviews, and even then I'd be hesitant.
>>
Had some carbon chink forks and they didn’t explode but the loud creaking noise while braking really put me off and i removed them
Bought a really expensive bike instead fuck shit bikes

Btw have both a chink carbon fork and seat post (picrel)
>>
My Chinesium (alu) fork has made it through customs. I'm so stoked, guys. Only a couple of days left!
>>
Is it really a bad idea to buy $60-80 chink carbon forks on AliExpress?
>>
>>2058082
The consensus seems to be: "They're all right if you don't take them off the road." I did not get a first-hand report of one breaking ever, though.
>>
>>2055053
hylix sounds like a real brand
>>
>>2052080
buy an entire bike off of your craigslist/kijiji/fb marketplace equivalent and drill speed holes in it
>>
>>2052100
I saw one of those for sale on fb marketplace, they're apparently real
>>
>>2060139
that's hilux, it's a kind of truck

>>
why do people insist on carbon anything? I can understand normies being clueless but /n/ of all places?
>>
>>2064861
worry not plastic enjoyers as this product only fails under
ExTrEmE braking forces (note: maximum deceleration on a bicycle are a whopping -0.6G hence forth flipping over the bars becomes unavoidable)
>>
>>2064881
nobody "insists", people buy what they think would suit their needs/wants. a lot of people don't even know they're riding carbon. it's not 1985, carbon hasn't been exotic or special in your lifetime, you're just drunk on grant's washed up old man kool-aid and think every bike decision is motivated by an urge to make you feel slow and poor.
>>
>>2064883
>motivated by an urge to make you feel slow and poor

I'm motivated by not suddenly having my skull smashed after hearing loud crack coming from my frame/wheels.

>>
>>2064895
it's funny how you unracers accuse normies of being brainwashed by GCN when you seem to be the only regular viewers of that channel
>>
>>2064897
what makes you think I'm unracer though? Get your head checked you have some "rent-free" bogey mans in your skull.
>>
>>2064899
sorry I've lost track of what you identify as. if you've transitioned and you've got a new name, I'm happy to call you by your name. this doesn't need to be a heated rivalry.
>>
As an ali express and ebay special enthusiast just wanna pop in and give some insight. In my experience I've yet to have an aluminium ebay special or aliexpress part break on me. I've heard of people having issues with cheap chinese carbon constantly. If you're going to go cheap aluminium may be ok but understand the risk you're potentially taking. I've had no catastrophic failures and I ride my bike everyday.
