01/09/26(Fri)11:10:35 No.2062913 Earlier trains -- pre N700 -- had tables recessed into seat backs. If someone did a sudden recline and there was a laptop on the table behind then the recess could catch the top of the screen and... toast. The N700 and later have (mostly) flat seat backs (and (as can be seen in OP pic) the table latch is in a beveled recess) so that sudden reclines should push laptop screens out of the way without destructively trapping them in the table recess. Evolution x intelligent design. Side effects small but still turdy behaviour.

If that train has a similar seat clearance as an airplane, I would politely tell the guy in front that there's not a jam in the seat mechanism keeping him from reclining, and please stop trying to break my knees. One of the downsides of being tall they don't tell you about

If reclining the seat without asking is such a taboo in Japan, why aren't there any signs warning against it?
>>

01/11/26(Sun)20:59:36 No.2063113 >>2063108
Because some things are common courtesy. If you do something that negatively affects others, you at least ask them about it.
Needing a warning sign for every little thing is retarded.

It seems pretty necessary in this case because asking before you recline your seat is simply not part of global train etiquette.

The norm is that the you are entitled to adjust your seat as you see fit, provided you don't unduly prevent the normal use of the tray table with unnecessary shaking. Reclining is an intended feature of seats on aeroplanes and apparently these trains, so expecting it not to be used is unreasonable.

Japan is among the most xenophobic and racist countries out there. Of course when you travel abroad you should do your best to fit in and be polite, but also the japanese will still hate on you for absolutely no reason. Japan as a country and a society is so bad they really don't have any lesson to give me.

01/16/26(Fri)03:45:41 No.2063441 >>2063425
there's like one per district
japs are super weird about trash, you have to sort it meticulously yourself into transparent bags and sign them to be disposed of, otherwise they won't be taken away on specifc days for each type from the dump too and doing that wrong can result in fines.
that's one reason why some people have bags of trash all around their house and it's a common depiction in the media/anime.

>If reclining the seat without asking is such a taboo in Japan, why aren't there any signs warning against it?
better question: if the japanese take such offense to leaning a seat back, why did they include the reclining mechanism in the chair? surely it's cheaper to buy single-piece molds instead, the only explanation is that you are intended to lean back when you desire
