After trucking for 9 months, I can confirm that backing doesn’t get any easier with experience, but the knowledge gained from the experience makes it easier for you to figure what to do in order to back the trailer into the spot you want to put it.
>>
>>28800843
The only truly hard part of backing is getting your setup correct. You can put a trailer anywhere with no damage if you start from the right position. If you have a dogshit setup you're just fucked and will struggle your ass off the entire time and it will take twice as long. With more experience you're not really learning how to better maneuver the trailer while backing as you are learning how to get set up for a back better than you did before.

I just blindsided a trailer in a tight spot at a shipper with a lane that isn't big enough to turn around in even with the tandems all the way forward and did it with my tandems all the way back and only had to use a couple GOALS and two pull ups to do it. In a 579 ultraloft with a 53' dryvan, in less than seven minutes, and most of that time was just me being cautious. But I could only pull it off because I had a good setup before starting the back, and I learned where to set up for a back from getting experience.

Do you not have an inverter? I plug my laptop into a surge protector running from the inverter under my bunk
>>
Just watched an old woman push her brakes in to take off, get up to get something out of the bunk, not realize the truck was rolling, fall down, and not be able to get back up in time to pull the brakes or stop before she rolled into another truck right across from her. Hit the truck to my left. Both of them are black and both truck companies are from chicago and of fucking course the one that hit the parked truck had a deer bumper and the parked truck didn't have shit. I'm waiting to see if she realizes she's got a puddle of coolant under her truck on her own or if I have to tell her. Cannot make this fucking shit up. Comedy of goddamn errors, this whole industry.
>>
Spotted at the truck stop I'm at, not sure if an accident or someone being cheeky.
>>
>>28801577
Most of the time those signs don't mean shit, the city just puts them up because the people that live on those roads are tired of truck traffic. The road can handle the load. Very often though you'll have some pig sheriff that cuts tickets for using them because they posted a sign even if you have to use them to get to the place and you're using the route your company told you to take because that route is now outdated and nobody saw fit to update it. Just more retarded faggot nigger brazillian bullshit in this comedy of errors industry.
>>28801669
It's very simple. You google "BMR calculator", you put in your height and weight and age and sex, you get your base metabolic rate, you look at the chart and see what your activity level is and how many calories that adds to your BMR, and then you eat no more than that amount of calories per day if you don't want to gain weight. If you want to lose weight you eat 500 calories less than your BMR+activity level every day and you'll lose a pound a week. If you really want to get fancy you just put your desired weight into the calculator rather than your actual weight and you just eat no more than whatever the number is for BMR at those metrics with your activity level added and you don't even have to fucking think and you will lose weight. Doesn't matter if you're eating mcdonalds for every meal. Honestly eating mcdonalds would make it easier because you would have an exact calorie count for everything you ate rather than having to do actual work to figure out how many calories you're eating cooking your own food or eating at a restaurant. Also, stay away from non-diet soda.

Protip - if you're a noob and all you're doing every day is drop and hook or waiting to get loaded or unloaded, your activity level is sedentary on the chart. Unless you're doing food service slinging beer and meat all day you're nowhere near the higher end of caloric needs for activity. Now pay me 500$

Do you guys in America really not get paid if you're not hauling anything?
Here in Europe you can sit in a parking lot doing nothing the whole week and you make the same as if you did 9 hours every day.
>>
>>28804641
Most company drivers get paid deadhead miles, usually at the same rate as loaded. Very few companies don't pay deadhead these days.
>>
>>28804641
american truck drivers are the ultimate corporate bootlickers
>>
>>28804641
It's not an absolute but few companies pay a driver to sit waiting for a load/unload. Some have detention/layover pay but it's frequently less than half of what a driver could make moving and companies are known to make drivers fight for it.

The system's fucked up but without a significant amount of drivers in a union that's prepared to bust scab's heads it's only going to get more dystopian in the race through the bottom.
>>
>>28804804
That's such bs. If they can't find you shit to haul it's the company's fault, not yours.

I hated the Sprinter vans, when I was delivering Amazon packages, but it’s a better choice over the Promaster vans.
My DSP had a couple Nissan NVs and I found them to be more user-friendly than the Sprinter vans, not to mention having a nice, large center console storage you can use as an arm rest.
>>
>>28805041
why'd you hate them? i can imagine doing packages in them sucks, but long distance is very nice. depending on what box you've got they essentially drive like cars with more wind resistance, i imagine a g-wagon doesn't feel much different. non-existant center console IS an issue with mine too, though i'm pretty sure that's just a matter of having a barebones trim version for profitmaxxing. it still has a foldable arm rest though, like in planes.
>>
>>28805055
Honestly, I think being assigned a Nissan NV3500 on my first day spoiled my experience with the Sprinter, since it had a vinyl interior with a user-friendly radio and a nice audio system and the Sprinters we used were bare bones and plastic. I had always thought Mercedes was supposed to be top-end, regardless of what vehicles they produced. Not to mention, my DSP took out just about every fuse that the Sprinter vans didn’t need to operate normally.
>>
>>28805071
understandable, personally i like the plastic cause it's so easy to keep clean for a work vehicle and idk, the audio in mine is pretty nice too. the nissan looks goofy as hell to me but that's most likely just my eurobrain not being used to long nosed vans. as for mercedes being top tier, maybe that's the american image they have, but here they're equally well known for their workhorse vehicles, famously the unimog, hardcore diesel engines, and the g-wagon used to just be a serious offroader with lackluster interior for rangers or land owners a bit on the wealthier side.

Why the fuck am I saving up for a better car if I’m hardly going to drive it?
What else would I save money for? Sure, an emergency fund in case I lose my job and get stranded in Bumfuck, Nowhere, but what about the extra money after that?
Trav– I’m already traveling for my job…
What’s the fucking point of saving money as a truck driver if there really isn’t anything to save money for that is worth having, when you’re away from home all the time?
>>
>>28805623
So you can buy some land and put a small but upgradeable home and homestead on it and have a place to park your own truck when you're an O/O or when you're a company driver for a real company. Just lease a vehicle, you're never going to get to drive it and you can keep having the latest and greatest shit if you want it. That or get something used and bulletproof. A full tank of gas in my personal vehicle lasts me two months.
>>
>>28805647
>So you can buy some land and put a small but upgradeable home and homestead on it
Did you miss the part where I said I’m hardly ever home? I currently rent a room at a friend’s house, which is quite convenient for someone who is away all the time. What’s the point in owning property if you’re not going to be there?
>>
>>28805660
Because God ain't making more land and if you're not retarded you can buy a piece that will appreciate in value significantly. Even if you never stay there one day, if you buy a couple acres and put a house on it for 300k you'll likely fuck around for twenty years and it'll be worth a million or better. Same goddamn reason you buy gold or bitcoin or any other commodity, the dollar is designed to inflate so you buy shit now so that later you can sell it for an equivalent amount of dollars which will be much higher than what you bought it for. Or just rent forever and have no equity idgaf it's your money.
>>
>>28806383
Honestly, if there’s any land I’m going to own, it’s the 8 acres I’m going to inherit once my dad and grandmother pass away.
>>
>>28806448
I guess you truly have no use to save anything. Just blow it all on hookers and blow. Or send it to me, I’ll invest it wisely for myself of course.

I treat dispatchers the same way I treat cops by not attempting to be friendly with them. However, I try to be pleasant with just about everyone because I believe that’s fair, and that (and coupling the fact I don’t bullshit during my trips) seems to give dispatch a positive impression of me, when I try to be neutral. Now, whenever I enter the office to pick up my paperwork, I’m greeted by everyone in there.

Apparently a ton of guys are just absolute assholes to dispatch so just being a generally pleasant person and not screaming or cursing at them makes you automatically one of their favorite drivers. God help you if you're actually good at your job and time management and communication on top of that.
>>28806823
Eventually I'd like to get on with a company that mostly does the midwest and the south so I can carry a gun and not give a fuck. Maybe just the south. Honestly if I could avoid new jersey for the entire rest of my life I would be happy, it's THE most garbage state in the country. Cali being a very close second with new york rounding out the top three. Illinois and pennsyltucky would be fourth and fifth respectively.

>>
Some truckers certainly love bitching about other truckers driving slow on the passing lane… which would be reasonable but we’re in a construction zone, where the speed limit is 55 mph, and there are signs telling us to stay in the left lane, so excuse me for only going 5 over that speed limit. If it were early in the morning, like it currently is, where there are no construction vehicles and the traffic is very light, then, yeah, I’ll go full speed through these zones.

I've talked about it in past threads but I'll do it again. Not being a fat bastard isn't hard. Plug your height, weight, and age into a BMR calculator and add a sedentary activity level of calories to that number. Eat 500 less than the sum total of the two every day. You will lose a pound a week. Doesn't matter what you eat, if calories out are higher than calories in you lose weight. Shit isn't hard it just requires discipline. If you can bang out 600-800 miles a day consistently you can lose the weight.

I'm not sure what happened I can't explain how all of it got there but I yoinked it all and I'm actually typing this from one of the laptops. I put an SSD in it and it handles Windows 10 IoT LTSC fairly well but I'll probably double the RAM on it and upgrade the CPU. It's old enough to have a socketed CPU.

None of it was company property as far as I could figure out, Prime doesn't issue any of these things to drivers nor in-house employees. One of the laptops definitely was company issued but it didn't have a drive and even if it did, I would have nuked it.

I’m pretty disappointed with dispatch, right now. A couple weeks ago, I was pulling multiple loads every day and returning to the terminal with less than an hour remaining on my clock, like BAM! BAM! BAM! Every load was delivered on time – fucking perfect – and I was potentially going to make fat stacks every week because I ended up driving 2500 miles and made over $1700.
Next couple of weeks? One fucking load a day and barely surpassing 1500 miles and a $1,000 paycheck. Like… the fucking fuck?

Do you guys know a program where I sign up and they train me and I start doing trucker work that would accept me with only a year on a regular license?

Going on 70k km on my motor rebuild so I sent my truck into the shop for a top set. Been leaking oil through the backside of my turbo and dripping out of the flex pipe since I got the truck. Started seeing signs of leaking on my exhaust manifold so I thought maybe an exhaust valve seal might be gone. Anyhow... mechanic takes off the valve cover to set everything up and a rocker arm was bent and it hammered the fuck out of the slave piston for my Jake's. Turbo is also fucked and was getting ready to grenade.

You drive one of these trucklets but the cabs are just like on bigger trucks, they have fridges and everything, they're all new.
Pay is just as good as before, like only -100€/month literally no difference.
Avoids all the nasty countries in Europe like England, Switzerland, Scandinavia.
They've got their base in an absolutely gorgeous city that I always wanted to move to.
No trailers attached ever, load is up to 7.5K.
I would literally stick my hand through a vat of AIDS-filled syringes to fish out a contract with them, calling them on Monday god what do I say?

I’m not sure if I should be worried or what. I’m from the South, so I’m not used to temperatures this cold. I’m following the precautions for winter weather, so my truck should be fine. I’m just unsure about whether or not I’ll be fine.

Week three of CDL school, week 3 without a paycheck. If I pass my skills test this week I get sent to Dallas via Greyhound bus for four days of more unpaid training, then six weeks of living in a truck cab with another dude for $700 a week.

I'm seriously considering jumping from the nearby highway overpass instead.
>>
>>28820755
Why didn’t you go to a sponsored school from a mega that will pre-hire you and start paying you the day you begin orientation?
>>
>>28820755
Deal with it faggot. What you're going through now isn't shit compared to what you'll face in your first year OTR. Embrace the suck, learn to like the way it sucks.
>>28820838
I went that route and I didn't start getting paid until like two days before I was with my mentor. You don't get paid during school and in my case you didn't go through upgrade orientation until after your time with a mentor when you got the go ahead to do your company road and backing tests, after which you were assigned a truck and would start running solo. I only did four weeks with a mentor and they had a dedicated route so I was in a hotel every night. Fuck team driving ever and especially OTR.
>>
>>28821216
>I didn't start getting paid until like two days before I was with my mentor
Grim. I got my first paycheck the week after I started orientation, which was right before I started training. I rode with a mentor that had a dedicated account that allowed weekly home time, and we happened to live in the same county. After four weeks with him, they assigned me a truck and I started OTR driving.
Team driving isn’t fun and I tolerated OTR driving because I knew my first year was going to suck. After I felt like I have driven in all of the states they were going to have me drive in, I started considering and eventually got onto a dedicated account. It’s kind of boring but the loads are relatively easy and it pays a lot better than OTR, so I can’t complain.

>>
>>28820755
greetings fellow stevens fag, why arent you doing their cdl training? i didnt bc i thought id be able to get a job off of a cdl alone with no experience. since i got a cdl outside of them, i got paid $800 instead of 700. that 4 days is their onboarding/orientation and you start getting paid when they orient you on the PS tablet so you can clock in on duty time. i had to basically do their full training (3 week "cdl refresher") but it cost 1/3 price than getting the cdl from them.
the on the road training fuckin sucks and the only way out is through. theres 5-6 phases and itll kinda start going faster the closer you get bc 4-6 have no minimum hours/miles. 2 mountains; west, central, and (north)east regions; in and out of a northeast customer yard; and bumping and pull out of docks on camera with the trainer out front "guiding you".
after 6 weeks you head back to the dallas yard for "grad class" which is basically more class shit and safety goes over any company violations the camera picked up and skewers your ass basically. after your approved, you get your truck, in my case a 2026 t680 with 1000 miles, and get it kitted out with maintenance fluids and load locks and a trailer door lock which you pay for ($400), but thats on a paycheck plan and doesnt start deducting until after a few weeks.
youll get a "grad" driver manager guy and any operation issues go to him. be prepared to wait on hold a indeterminate amount of time, esp for wash outs more than $50, bc he (or someone in operations) has to approve it manually, so wait until you have the money on the fuel card before getting a wash out so youre not on hold 30min+ waiting on a PO# inside of the wash out garage holding up their business
>inb4 wrote all this and anon isnt going to dallas to drive for stevens

Weather is no reason to park like this, especially now that the roads have been plowed and salted. If you do this, I hope your 5th wheel lock jaw fails next time you D&H and you drop the trailer.

Everything within an hour of Dallas is completely buttfucked. The rest of it wasn't so bad. Had a dipshit get mad I was "only" doing 55 in the cleared lane so he tried to pass on the left on snow and ice that hadn't been cleared, lost control and veered left, and then over corrected and veered right trying to save it. If I hadn't been watching him in my mirror and moved to the right as far as I could he would've hit my trailer and likely been pulled under it and crushed by my tandems and I'm grossing 80k at the moment so he definitely would've died. He caught it at the last second overcorrecting to the left and then did a 360 spin but somehow managed to not go off the road and into the guardrail then got it straightened back out.

Faggot got back in line behind me and a couple cars behind me and pulled off a half hour later. Never tried passing again even when both lanes were clear and dry. If he didn't shit his pants I'd be amazed. Some newer Toyota pickup on offroad tires. Got passed by a good half dozen supertruckers doing the same bullshit today as well. Got my 500 miles for the day but honestly it wasn't worth it at all and especially not for what I'm getting paid. I can handle it just fine because I'm not retarded but there's a ton of retards all around me on the road that can't handle the conditions. If there was three inches between that dudes truck and my trailer before he caught it and sent it into a counterclockwise spin I'd be amazed. I checked my trailer, no damage, no scrapes, not even paint so he didn't hit me at all.

Kitty litter. I keep a box of it in the truck to put in the bags in my bucket for when I have to take a shit in the truck but it's also helpful for when you're fucked for traction. So is a nice hot bottle or jug of fresh piss. Honestly though just staying the fuck out of truck stops until shit clears up is the real answer, especially if you're light or empty.

Since I started trucking I've had to shit in the truck 50 times so far. Had a big meaty chud of a log earlier this evening, really wish I'd have upper decked this truck stop in Oklahoma with it because everyone in there was a faggot to me because I'm not from here but their restaurant is decent so I let it slide. I use black 33 gallon trash bags with about a cup of kitty litter inside the bag that way I can throw it out in a regular trash can and nobody is the wiser. I used to just shit and piss in the bucket until it was full and dump it out the window or in a portajohn but that was a risky endeavor. Anymore I just piss in a gallon jug and dump that out when I get a chance.

I will say though, dumping 3-4 gallons of fetid piss and shit all over some fuckhead state full of faggot retards was wildly funny every time I did it. Part of me misses the pissnuke.
>>
>>28823561
The annoying part is if he hadn't stayed on the throttle getting onto it or goosed it when he was on the ice, he would've been fine. His truck and tires were good enough to handle it. He was just a dumbfuck and nearly lost his life or hurt other people or totaled his truck for being that fucking stupid. Driving on ice isn't that hard even without chains you just can't be retarded. Personally I hope it scared the hell out of him and he went home and got drunk and cried realizing he almost lost his life because he wanted to save ten seconds of time. One of the only times I've ever rolled my window down and given someone a proud middle finger as hard as I could for a solid minute.
>>28823557
Honestly dude if he was at least intelligent enough to know he couldn't do it and waited to get backed in when it was safe for him to do so, I'm not even mad. >>
>>28823569
Well, there's a reason why most regular people hate truckers and that's because of the bullshit new truckers pull on the road that almost kill a half dozen people. Hopefully he learned a lesson. Also, brokers are fucking shitheads pushing truckers way beyond their limits to meet deadlines. This industry is so fucked.
>>
>>28823572
To clarify the guy that almost wrecked his shit was in some gay little toyota pickup on offroad tires, not a cmv. If you can spin out a tractor and trailer on ice doing 60 and not flip it or damage anything or kill anyone you're either the luckiest person on earth or the greatest driver that's ever lived. But yeah I've seen truckers do plenty of fuckhead retard shit too. Watched one go off the road today and get stuck because he was going too fast for conditions, he did real good to not flip his shit.
>>
I’m glad I went to CDL school during winter, so I would know what I needed to do to get frozen trailer brakes unstuck. Instructors would either, or do a combination of, strike the drums with a mallet, use a butane torch, or build up and release air into the trailer to thaw the air hoses.
I didn’t have a butane torch on me, so I just kept building and releasing air into the trailer and knocking the drums with a mallet. It wasn’t until I heard a loud clang from all four drums that I realized the brakes were finally free.
Honestly, though, if I hadn’t already known what to do, it would have only taken me a couple minutes to look up how to get frozen brakes unstuck.

>>28826131
You should probably slide your fifth wheel forward a notch or two just to get better traction on your steers. You're most likely legal up to 12.2-12.5k depending on tires and air pressure and axle configuration. My setup is legal up to 12.35k and at max gross it's at 12.2k. Also if your truck has an APU you're legal up to 80,400 as long as you're still legal on your axles. Some states up to 80,550. Just watch your fuel levels when you're close to max gross, 200 gallons of diesel weighs 1400lbs so if you weigh at 79.8k at half a tank even with the apu exemption you'll be illegal by a hundred pounds in most states.

Realistically unless you're way over the limits they'll generally just give you a warning. I've been 160lbs over on an axle and 100lbs over gross and they just talked to me about it and told me to do better about managing weight. If you're like 500lbs over you're absolutely getting a ticket.
>>
Fuck coffee and energy shots – playing music you enjoy but don’t always listen to is a good way to keep yourself awake long enough to get to somewhere, to shut down.

Not bitching to dispatch when shit goes wrong will make you a fuckload more money in the long run. If you have a legitimate concern or something that needs to be addressed then do so politely and professionally. Expressing some frustration is okay, just make sure to clarify you're not frustrated with any specific person but rather the situation at hand. It's probably made me an extra 5k thus far and everyone in the office treats me better and works with me rather than against me. I also get the kind of loads I prefer and a lot more mileage than my peers. Also, when a shipper or consignee fucks you around, instead of chimping out and calling everyone a nigger and getting trespassed off the property just be polite and professional and then call your dispatch and tell them what's happening and that they're being rude and difficult for no reason. If you're like me and have a pattern of behavior of being kind and reasonable dispatch will happily fuck them to death on the back end and threaten additional charges or a contract negotiation and as if by magic the next time you speak to the shipper or consignee they will treat you like gold and get you taken care of post haste.

Shit gets frustrating out here and sometimes I scream in my truck as loud and hard as I can until I almost pass out just to get the anger out. But soft skills and people skills pay off bigly in this industry even if they're not strictly necessary.
>>

>>
>>28828872

Are you running for Russians or Eastern Europeans? That 100% sounds like some shit they do
>>
>>28828872
Not necessarily retarded because of that. There's a strong correlation between drivers that take their time on a load and their being late. There's also the desire by management to have the driver get to the drop early enough to have a full clock after the drop is completed. And breakdowns are a thing so dispatch wants you to run ahead as much as possible so if something does fuck up they might have a chance to fix it and still be on time. They might also hope that you can get the drop to take you early and they can squeak in another load this week.

For myself, I liked to run early like that so I had a nice little bit of time off. I also learned not to run more than 24 hours ahead as that pretty much guaranteed that I'd have to repower a load and run like hell to barely get there on time and it would fuck up my nice comfy pattern for weeks.
>>
>>28828872
your answer to "go go go" was getting there early and not "its only 1000 miles and the appointment isnt for 3 days from now chill out ive got time" maybe dont respond to retardation with retardation, and also now your 70s fucked bc you hauled ass when you could of spread it out

Any advice regarding maintaining personal vehicles at home while you’re on the road for several weeks?
I was considering saving money for a better car, but I may just hold onto my 01 Honda Civic and just make mechanical and body repairs to it, whenever I’m home and have the time for it. There’s no sense in replacing it if you’re only driving less than 5,000 miles a year.
>>
>>28830646
That reminds me, since I’m gone weeks at a time, I wouldn’t have an issue leaving the car at a body shop to get a large dent fixed and the body repainted. It may not be worth the expense for the car’s value, but I would feel better about it.
>>
>>28830646
Only thing that would remotely make sense other than keeping your current beater going would be to do a lease agreement for something new and then either buy it at the end of the lease or trade it in for another new vehicle. Unless you've already got great credit and 10k in the bank I'd say keep the beater going.
>>
>>28830646

Keep it. You're not going to make any real money and if something happens out here and you're on your ass those car payments are just one more thing over your head to worry about.

01 Civic, is way better than anything new it doesn't have any nanny crap or infotainment or spy bullshit I honestly wouldn't drive anything newer than 2006.
>>
>>28830981
>>28831024
I wasn’t planning on getting a newer car, but I have considered leasing, but decided against it just to keep my bills low. I was thinking of getting a sportier car from the 80s to mid 00s, but seeing how I wouldn’t drive it much, I decided it probably wouldn’t be a good idea. I live in the South in a house with no garage – I’ve already accepted my fate with the Civic slowly deteriorating from lack of use and the humidity in the warmer months, so there’s no logic in me getting a different car that will end up not being driven a few weeks at a time.

Modern emissions systems on semis recirculate exhaust through the engine, a lot of that is carbon, it builds up as soot and wears shit out prematurely and you develop coolant leaks. If you're losing more than about a half gallon of coolant a week you probably need to get your shit looked at. It's normal to lose a bit over time just from use but if you're losing enough to be worried about it take your shit to the shop.
>>
>>28831831
I just took it to the shop and all they did was tighten the hose clamps, or so they said – I’ve lost faith in shops doing shit properly, so while I hope this fixes it, I have doubts.
>>
>>28832013
Leak area is still damp but there are no indications of splattering like before, and the low coolant light never popped up, like it had been. That’s a step in a positive direction.
>>
I did not realize just how little work I did at my last job until I got my current one.
>>
Does anyone else here ever have to deal with this issue?
>>
Clutch brake stopped working after a couple days, took it back and all is well now. From my feet to the flywheel is all spanking new and OEM, not some China knock off. They put a new pedal assembly in too. She will be ready for action in a couple days.

I know what you mean. I went from a cushy reefer job where you only did about a 1000 miles/week and got paid well to a flatbed job where you have to strap 2 loads/day, swap trailers twice, and drive a total 530 miles all within 12 hours because you're slip seating while also getting paid a couple hundred/week less than the reefer job.
>>
For the most part, you’re either sacrificing income or frequent time at home – you can’t have both.
>>
If anyone knows of any coast to coast OTR jobs reefer or dryvan that net 1k a week minimum and don't have me driving a thirteen letter shit spreader or preferably not an asscadia either, let me know please. If I have to keep running the northeast I'm going to end up going to prison. I hate yankees so goddamn much it is unreal.
>>28833500
Give me a week off every 6-8 weeks and I'll be alright. I'm trying to make money.
>>
What companies will hire someone who hasn’t worked more than a week in three years? I’ve got a fully endorsed CDL with no restrictions along with my TWIC card. Clean record.
>>
>>28833631
You keep asking this and no one has answered you. You should take that as a sign that nobody fucking knows.

Nothing reminds you that you used to be a poorfag when it’s the day before payday and you still have $600 in your checking account.

>coast to coast OTR
I don't think that's really a thing anymore as it grew out of a special set of circumstances in the 70's. Most go for regional now.

Now if you mean nationwide that's different. Maybe check into Western Distributing Transportation Corporation. Don't know much about their specifics but I see them mostly west of the Mississippi and ALWAYS in the left lane bullying everybody not running at least 75 like some sort of modern-day Monfort (the Schneider lane and the Monfort lane).

>ALWAYS in the left lane bullying everybody not running at least 75 like some sort of modern-day Monfort

The below explains that

"United States Armored Company (USAC), is a division of Western Distributing Transportation Corp. USAC was acquired in 1992 with 11 power units and has now grown to over 40 units to date. This division transports cargo that requires safeguarding in transit. The tractors are fully armored and staffed with several armed driver/guards. All personnel are weapons trained and certified as well as through extensive background checks are done on all staff. All trucks are teams and we can overnight product almost anywhere in the United States . All Equipment is armored to meet customer specs and protect driver/guards as well as cargo. We also have various sizes of trailers that are smaller in height and length to get into those tight vaults or small dock spaces. We also have reefers for secure products that require specific temperature requirements and 24 hour reporting/monitoring of that product as well. USAC has cargo insurance in place to satisfy any coverage necessary. We move cargo for all divisions of the government and were awarded to move several of the governments banks over the years. If it must be secure in transit, any amount, anywhere, (48 states/Canada) USAC can make it happen! We would tell you more about what we can do but IT’S CONFIDENTIAL!!"

Nobody reputable is going to take you with no recent work history. The absolute minimum you would need is a year. I know that because I was in your situation and I only got my current job because I technically had a job working for the family construction company for a year after taking a year off to stay home with my kiddo because my ex wife had postpartum so bad I thought she was going to anhero herself or our kiddo, even though across that year of employment I only made about 7k and only worked maybe 200 hours because I was still mostly staying home to take care of my kiddo. And I wouldn't tell you what company did eventually hire me anyways because I'm not a fucking idiot and I know they watch social media including here and I don't want to get fired.

Even Swift turned me down because I didn't have three full years work history when I applied. If you're deadset on getting into trucking and you actually do have all your endorsements, go drive a school bus for a year or if you're a stubborn idiot go sign up with welfare (western) express. They will take literally anyone with a pulse and a license. They will also work you and treat you like a slave and their equipment is dogshit and everyone else on the road will treat you like a pariah. Unless you've been in college or getting over cancer or some other valid excuse for not having at minimum a year and preferably three years of recent work history you're likely not getting an OTR job for a variety of reasons.
>>
>>28834014
My dick ain't that big yet and they likely wouldn't take me. I have no endorsements although I do know how to drive a manual and I'm fine with guns and a decent shot. I'm more talking about something like a Crete with slightly nicer equipment. Really as long as I'm not driving a fuckin International I'll be okay, I'm not a huge fan of freightliners but I've yet to actually be inside one so I don't know if I could tolerate it yet. The 579 ultraloft I'm in currently is basically perfect and I could live in this thing full time without complaint. But if I have to keep running the northeast much longer I'm going to end up leaving this bitch at a terminal and renting a uhaul to drive my happy ass home and get a different job. I don't mind doing it for a little while but about a week straight of NJ/NY is as much as I can tolerate before I start wanting to whistle Dixie walking around just to start a fight.
>>
>>28834225
Well, work experience is work experience right? As long as I do my pre trips, and drive safely it shouldn’t be too bad. Drivers can’t be forced to drive if they deem it unsafe. I just need 3-6 months so I can get experience and go drive for someone else.
>>
>>28834691
Most of your coworkers will be felons. They have the most clapped out shitbag cheap equipment on the road for a mega carrier. They will try to get you to do illegal shit constantly. They won't care if you're tired and will starve you out with hardly any miles if you don't do everything you're told and ask for more after that. If you can stick it out for a year at western express you should've just joined the military instead because that's damn near the level of bullshit you're going to go through while you're there. People have made it work, sure, but they're the exceptions that proved the rule. Unless you've literally been to prison and seen what hell on earth looks like you're not ready.
>>
>>28834225
>Nobody reputable is going to take you with no recent work history
You can fabricate work history and ask friends to be your references. There's nothing illegal about lying on a job application.
>>
You know what they say about Volvo drivers
>>
Honest question, not a dig. But how do you truckers feel about the pajeet menace? Its got to be a bit demoralizing that a brown guy that can't speak or understand english can go out get a trucking license and do the same thing you all are doing.
>>
>>28835054
As a company driver, I view them as irrelevant subhuman garbage, who >>28835030
drive Volvos. As long as they don’t hit my truck or do anything else that would inconvenience me, that’s the only opinion I’ll have of them, which is generous.
>>
>>28835054
Much like >>28835066 jeets are irrelevant to me. I'm with an asset-based carrier that runs a sawmill so I'm doing flatbed which no jeet would ever consider doing. It's amusing to note that while the mill is full of young hispanics all the drivers are middle-aged to senior white guys.

And to expand on my point here, you gotta specialize somehow. Trying to slug it out with the cheap freight types will just leave you unemployed because you cost more than the most recent virtual slave that was imported by the feds to replace you.
>>
>>28835054
I could really not care less where someone is from or what other languages they speak than English. As long as they're in the country legally, are paying taxes, and can speak and read English at least well enough to understand road signs and have a conversation with an officer of the law they can drive here. I've known good drivers from India and Mexico and little India (cucknada).

That said the only time I've almost been ran off the road it was by a streetshitting jeet pulling a Conestoga for a company out of cucknada. Personally I think it's a travesty that the FMCSA and DOT are doing the bare minimum to get non ELP compliant illegal drivers off of American roads. They kill people at a way higher rate than American drivers do. Honestly they piss me off so bad that it's making me less racist towards other Americans, I'm actually happy to see a black or mexican driver that speaks English and isn't a fuckhead because they'll at their absolute worst be more competent than most bobblehead red dot jeets. Western Express is more competent than them. Every single ukranian and russian driver I've ever met is more competent than them. And the real kicker is that the indian dudes that are actually competent and do speak English proficiently fucking hate their compatriots for making them look bad.
>>
What do you guys use for tunes while you're trucking? Do you have $1000 head units with android/apple Auto or what? Just curious.
>>
>>28835219
I pair my phone to my stereo with bluetooth and have youtube premium so I can set up a playlist before I start driving and listen to it with youtube running in the background without the video on the screen so it's DOT legal.
>>
>>28835245
So you can't have a head unit with maps and apps and all that? Seems like that would be helpful
>>
>>28834857
How is this even bad? Just don’t do the illegal things, be conscious about food choices and budget, and take care of yourself so that the work isn’t very tiring. I’ve driven dogshit beat up equipment my whole life, and gone days without eating before. In some cultures that’s common practice. As long as you’re respectful and build a decent relationship, I’m not quite sure how this would be entirely bad. I currently don’t have a job, and having income is better than not having income. Getting experience is better than not getting it, even if it means I have to be more aware of the vehicle and check things thoroughly. Please enlighten me if I’m not understanding fully.
>>
>>28835219
I just do what I’ve always done for over a decade and play songs stored on my phone. Whenever I get tired of playing the same songs, I’ll use Pandora to play fresh songs and potentially add more to my collection.
I just play it off the truck’s factory stereo, since it’s a company-owned truck, where modifications are severely limited and a waste of money.
>>
>>28835398
Sure.
>>
>>28835284
You can it's just more money. I'd rather have a tablet or two to run my maps and just pair my phone to the bluetooth. Plus I'm in a company truck so I can't modify anything, they didn't even approve me getting an exterior starlink mount that just used adhesive to hold some steel disks in place that it stuck to using magnets. Thankfully it works just fine on the top bunk or on the dash.
>>28835291
Look if you're serious about getting back on the road and you can tolerate a lot of bullshit and stupidity, and I mean a lot, in addition to the lowest pay on offer from any mega, then go right ahead. Just know what you're getting into. It's not impossible to make it work but it's the absolute hardest company to work for doing OTR bar none other than shady 1099 solo team driving shit in a leased shitbox dispatched out of Uzbekistan.
>>
>>28835670
Who else would hire me with no recent work history? What other choice do I have? I’ve got less than $100 to my name, and can’t really afford to wait too long.
>>
>driving for a company
You did get your own tractor and authority right, right??
>>
>>28835713
You say that like being a company driver is a bad thing. Why would I become an o/o when I know I wouldn’t last long as one? I have zero financial and business sense to bother considering it.
>>
>>28835779
I guess, if you want to be a wagie the rest of your life. If you find a good partner to act as your agent and own your own tractor and even a trailer and have someone to handle your finances you'll make a lot more money.
>>
>>28835785
How much of the ~$200k do o/o take home after expenses? Fuel, maintenance/repairs, tolls, registrations/permits, other operational fees.
>>
>>28835797
Well then you hire a broker or get your own brokerage. The price negotiated for a load goes to multiple people. If you're just the driver you're getting maybe ballpark 60% of the price of the load. Brokers are literally robbing you.
>>
>>28835810
You can’t even answer my question properly.
>>
>>28835797
Ethan once proudly stated of his 300k jackpot year he spent 220k of it on diesel alone, course im not gonna speak for him but id be willing to wager something along those lines is the reason he dont come round here much anymore
>>
>>28835054
docked next to a indian that had hindu and cheap "american, patriotic, trump" stickers all over his truck, and the iconic indian/third world type curtian in his windshield.
his grille was all cracked and fucked up and held together with bungee cords and the APU engine was entirely exposed and missing its belts and shit and the entire truck was coated in road filth. DOT does not do enough when theres obvious signs of a bad truck driver
