Don't forget to participate in the Automation/BeamNG event (deadline February 4th).
>Check the doc for the latest info. We're currently racing GT3s in LMU on Saturdays. Caterhams in AMS on Sundays starts February 1st, plus hillclimb in AC on February 15th.

OVG Hillclimb update

Reminder that there are only less than 15 days left for you to submit a car. Raceday happens a week after the deadline.
Reminder that you can enter without submitting a car by yourself - all you need to do is to ask someone in the ovg mattermost, to make you a car.
If nobody makes you a car, you can literally just ask me. Be warned though, if you want to insist on a base mod to use/start with, I reserve the right to refuse your choice if it's a shitty cobbled together shitmod with obvious flaws. Just pick something nice looking
I will also start work on a carpack for late signups, hopefully this also encourages more participation.
To those who are too lazy to scroll up, signups are here:

it occured to me i've never tried any of the horizon games, is it worth fucking with the xenia or whatever just to try it, or did it age badly?
don't have a xb gamepad but still curious if it's any good on the wheel
>>
>>28820183
It's a week of fun, then you get bored with it. Physics engine isn't that bad, but it's braindead ai and environment that's not passable. You barely need to lift in any race, and roads are wider than anything in nfs series. It's total borefest if you've a few brain cells working in your head.
>>
>>28820232
damn that's a shame
are there any streetracing games that are actually good? so far i've only played MM1, SRS, TDU, TDU2, NFSU2 and NFSMW

Best physics. Performance is iffy. Extremely accurate laser scanned stages. Large selection of cars. Only four stages so far. And there's a big question regarding plans for the future. 0.3 update is to bring Monte rally, but again only two stages.

Just get it, it's the best SP racing game released in the last five years or more.

But which one? Every game in the series handle differently for better or worse.
>>

>>
>>28820611
3 was a bit heavy, you don't want to know what LA feels like. 2 is peak MC, but people won't admit it because no license cars and no customization.
>>
>>28820614
>no license cars and no customization.
That autism makes my own autism boil I can't stand brand whores who also like customization and then rice the fuck out of licensed cars making them look unrecognizable with absurd bodykits negating the point of driving the car with the official trademarked badges bonus points with games that let you engine swap further ruining the point of having licensed cars.
>>
>>28820422
it's rally, and it's on ue5, skins are as far as modding will go
>>

Outside of LMP's or classic race cars, what can developers even insert to get people to preorder nowadays? A Camry with a spoiler sure won't do it.

>>
>>28821309
The car industry is dead. They don't make em like they used to. There's nothing cool or exciting about electric batteries and computers. It's just not the same anymore. They've optimized cars so much that the excitement of a new frontier in automotives just isn't there, we've reached peak potential, where do we go from 1100 HP twin turbo hybrid V12 engines that go to 300 mph? There's nothing. We won. We made it to the moon. Now it feels like the cars are trying to control us instead of the other way around.
>>
>>28821319
All they have to do is stuff new engines in old body styles and everyone would go apeshit. Instead we get plastic cars that look like 3d printed shoes with a bunch of useless shit in them.
>>
>>28821330
sure it would be cool to drive e30s all over again but the (((regulations))) won't let them sell anything without 7 airbags 4 crumple zones 3 cameras and a supercomputer onboard

People tried making an all-around racing general on /vg/ around the time TXR released. Sadly it didn't last long.
>>
>>28821486
because racing games arent conducive to keeping a general alive. even this thread just argues about sim gear 90% of the time, if it only talked about playing racing games it wouldnt even survive on /o/ because there is just nothing to talk about. racing games are boring. all the namefag drama is gone too so nothing funny happens anymore either.

Corvette is very good at Sebring, better than BMW that ends up struggling with tyres in races. But, it's very hard to drive. Hardest of all cars. BMW is diametrical opposite. Right there with Mclaren as the easiest car of them all.

Just got unfortunate news they cancelled the 4 day international air delivery from Switzerland of my white-gold, Rolex Daytona panda dial (S/N: t.1801488) which for some reason is delayed after being 'paywalled' by my synchrony bank account, formerly Paypal.
Guess I'm still good to go cause I'm a current owner of 2 Harbor Freight Daytona floor jacks (cherry red4 and power blue if anyone cares) the one Snap on previously sued them after causing some drama in the air back during it's Inception in 2016.

Are you guys considering the Steam Frame for VR simracing specifically or do you think wireless isn't it for us? I'm worried about compression at high speeds and the image turning to shit in general. On the other hand I'm doubling down that a higher refresh rate is better than a higher resolution. These bitchass unoptimized piece of shit spaghetti code games can't even run in higher VR resolutions. Motion reprojection is visual aids. I'd rather play at a smooth 90/120hz with G2 visuals than 45 FPS on some goymax 12k meme oled display. Assuming Valve's wireless protocol or whatever can really handle 120hz. I don't know about latency though. If I feel any delay while steering then that shit's fucked and I'd have to get a goymax for real.

>the original Schulze Motorsport Nissan GT-R #71 – the very first R35 GT-R to compete in the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2011 - winning its class on debut with Gran Turismo creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, behind the wheel. With input from four-time Formula 1 World Champion Sebastian Vettel, who was enlisted to test the car privately (documented by exclusive photographs from the Schulze Motorsport archive showing Vettel in the cockpit alongside the original FIA homologation sticker on the roll cage, which remains in precisely the same position today), it was a pivotal pioneer for the later official GT3 models. It was progressively upgraded to near-GT3 specification from 2013 and fully rebuilt in 2016 with a new NISMO GT3 engine including GT3 turbochargers and GT3 exhaust system (less than 2,000 miles since installation), high-quality KW custom suspension, Brembo brakes and 18" NISMO centre-lock magnesium wheels.

After the 2011 success, the car remained with Schulze Motorsport and was continuously developed in close collaboration with NISMO and Polyphony Digital (Kazunori Yamauchi) to adapt to evolving racing conditions and increased performance and from 2013 was finished in the iconic Schulze Motorsport dark blue livery that has since become the team’s trademark. Although not an official works car, this vehicle was a crucial pioneer for the Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 version homologated from 2012/2013. The

hello racists
im looking to potentially spend some time learning and playing some racing games, and i am looking for any and all suggestions for beginner-friendly, more entry-level racer games I can fire up and play and make some progression in
recently, i've started Sega Rally Revo and Race Driver GRID. i also have gran turismo 3 - a-spec in my backlog. I grabbed Blur but it crashed on launch.
anyhow I'm on a win7 toaster so it needs to be win7 friendly or emulatable-friendly.
please and thank you.

NTA, I sorta like the game, the controls are good and for the most part the driving is fun, but here's some bitching about the game that I posted on /v/ (for clarity, I'm at the start of A class, which I think is the final class, and haven't struggled much but haven't played since getting fed up):

The bones of the game are fun but I have serious complaints about it. The collisions are sometimes complete cancer, but I'll let people write that off as a "skill issue" since you aren't supposed to be touching the walls to begin with.
My bigger issue is how shit the pace notes are - and one of the tool tips even says something to the effect of "it's important to learn the course" which to me is slightly antithetical to rally, which isn't about learning a course but about trusting the pace notes from recce.
This AI-sounding monotone bitch in my ear gives shitty, incorrect callouts that are poorly timed with absolutely no sense of actual PACE. I'd love actual rally-style "X into immediate Y, 100, slowing, keep left over jump into 3 left don't cut" style notes but instead you get notes that don't cover every corner, don't accurately describe them, and sometimes don't give enough info (I've plowed into walls after jumps because of a lack of information).
I've also heard her call out the wrong thing while the correct symbol is shown, call out the right thing while the wrong symbol is shown, and have both wrong. They're super rare but it just lends to the pace notes being unreliable which means you have to replay certain stages, especially low-vis stages, repeatedly instead of the skill you've acquired at controlling the car in response to notes carrying you through.

That said, solid 6.5/10 and more like an 8 if you aren't as autistic as me so given the price I recommend it.
>>
>>28827037
oh, also, while i'm not having trouble, i'm definitely much worse than the other anons, i was getting ~500-700 rank times on the stages and that was near launch, so probably out of the top 1K now
>>
>>28827011
just drive the car you like and irating will put you in races with other drivers of the same pace ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
10k iR and 100iR pay the same (€0)

EVO and Rally both seem to run fine for me. 9700X, 32GB, 4070Ti.
>>
>>28827022
Career mode is more streamlined. It has the same system of stars unlocking events but events are divided in car classes (from E to A) so you first complete E class events until you win enough stars to unlock C events. You also need to buy a car from that class. Getting upgrades work the same and you'll need to grind so relax, don't mind if you are struggling with some event and go for the gold later, try new cars if you get one as a reward and if you really need to get money look for events that'll give you the more money per minute.
Driving feels way better than GP2. Drifting is what will give you a better position and you'll find a handbrake that I missed in GP2.
>>
>>28827037
what about courses? are they rally long?
>>
>>28827076
That chick is german?! she looked mutted with that tan >>28826731
>>
>>28827184
Individual stages are maybe 1-2 minutes and a single event is between 2 (in the lowest classes) to 5 (or more? in the highest classes). Overall quite short and quite fast to complete, it's definitely intended to be an arcade game played in short bursts. I should also say the physics are maybe a bit strange...someone on /v/ said all the cars drive the same which I don't think is entirely true but they definitely don't feel that unique to me. That said, I only have a handful of cars per class so anyone with more unlocked would be able to speak more to that.
>>
>>28827204
2 to 5 stages, I mean. So you might see something like 10-12 minutes for an event on the high side.

I tried the iRenting Arcade demo, the handling feels kinda shit. Maybe in a charming way because it's clearly trying to feel like IRL RC cars, so it has a tinge of PS1-era shovelware feel to its physics.

>>
>>28826759
It works for what it's worth, but if you really want to be competitive at the sharp-end, you need to get around Forza's physics quickly and become a setup-god per circuit configuration.
>>
>>28827445
I like the handling and AI is quite good compared to other games (I guess it's easier to make when they all are using the same car). I get the RC vibes you talk about, the scale works like that. But it's a competent RC game.
>>
>>28827610
Yeah, I don't hate it because it's very competent at what it does, but I'm not sure I can say I personally enjoy it. Maybe I'll give the demo a bit more of a try and see how I feel, but for anyone who can tolerate the demo I imagine they should be rather positive.
