The only real hatchbacks, like my true love, the Autobianchi A112 Abarth
Post others that fit the category, bonus points for round headlights, kill yourself if you post a car that's clearly a coupe but is technically a hatchback

First with transverse engine with end on gearbox and mcpherson struts and hatch and all the other b0llocks you expect from a hatchback. All those bits came together there.
Blame them.
>>
There's also this thing, bit older but it doesn't feature mcpherson struts yet. Don't mean to argue with OP, but the Primula is just often brought up as the first real fwd hatchback so I thought would mention it
>>

The first hatchback was a 5 door though.

If a car has 5 doors it should be called a wagon. A proper hatchback only has 3.

Wagons have a D-pillar
>>

This only has 2 doors, though.
>>
>>28824394
I know, traditionally they do. But you still wouldn’t call a hatchback with 5 doors a sedan. It needs a separate trunk. That’s why I propose calling 5 door “hatchbacks” a wagon

A112 is a great choice

natural consequence of LEDs not needing 3 inch projectors to get a decent light output, the alternative is the Alfa 4C approach where they just kinda stick em wherever

3 door is kino with a fastback roofline, but 5 door is the way. 3 door ruins practicality and makes me assume the owner is pretending their shrunken down minivan is a sports car.

iirc you could unlock the Ritmo's doors with half a ping pong ball used as a suction cup or something
>>
>>28829107
A lot of doors could be opened that way at the time. I think the BBC demonstrated it, which was nice.
>>
>>28825605
It's entirely possible that I'm misunderstanding your post because that's easy to do when you're a vagueposting subhuman like some kind of ESL caveman who can only communicate through visual imagery, but the Focus only has a C pillar. It by his definition is a hatchback.

Fastbacks are coupes. To be a hatchback, the roof should extend significantly behind the B-pillar, if it curves down immediately it's a coupe.
>>
>>28824385
>>28824394
It's a size thing. Smallish ~midsize and below sedan becomes hatchback, midsize to full size becomes wagon. I don't think anyone would ever call this a hatchback.
>>
>>28829148
>To be a hatchback, the roof should extend significantly behind the B-pillar
True, however,
>if it curves down immediately it's a coupe
If the glass moves then it would be a liftback. A fastback-styled hatchback.
>>
>>28829155
If we want to get pedantic, that's a shooting brake. Also a custom job, the actual station wagons looked like picrel
>>
>>28829163
A shooting brake is still a wagon. It's a subset of wagon but still a wagon. I mean these are all subsets of cars but you would never say "technically that's not a car, that's a hatchback". Family genus species type shit.
>>
>>28829172
In that case, wagons are a subset of hatchback, because they have a hatch on the back. As are SUVs and Crossovers.
>>
>>28829155
>>28829194
hatchbacks have minimum rear overhang, wagons/estates do.
Imagine a sedan.
If you chop off the trunk, you get a hatchback, if you extend the cabin over the trunk, you get an estate/wagon.

Forgot to add, I still think the A, B, C, D pillar definition is the clearest way to delineate the body styles.
>>28829196
>if you extend the cabin over the trunk, you get an estate/wagon
This generally necessitates adding a D pillar. I'll accept it though.
>>
While >we are at it, >we can all agree that there is no such thing as a 4-door coupe and 4-door shooting brake, right?
>>
>>28829204
>no such thing as a 4-door coupe
sure
>4-door shooting brake
not sure, if anything 2-door shooting brakes are the anomaly
they're meant to carry you, your lads, and all your gear to the hunt
hard to do that with only 2 doors
>>
>>28829208
Personally I think as long as there's no D pillar but the car is still looong it's a shooting brake and not a wagon.
>>

A shooting break should have a long hood, front-mid engine layout preferably.

real hatchbacks dont have a c pillar
>>
>>28829223
I'm inclined to agree, although I think it's more vibes based than most body styles, and there are some short wheelbase 3-door hatches that have shooting brake vibes. Might have something to do with the size of the rear side windows. Or how far the behind the rear seats the C pillar is?
>>28829242
I'd say being on a truck frame disqualifies it too, but idk how to define that without excluding body-on-frame cars.

The Scirocco was honestly kinda shit. Used the mk5 Golf chassis despite being styled like (and sold alongside) the mk6, cost significantly more than the Golf for the exact same drivetrain, wasn't as practical as the Golf, and worst of all, the R version wasn't allowed to surpass the Golf as the performance flagship so they nerfed its power output by 5hp and refused to give it AWD, despite it clearly being possible on the mk5 chassis since it was on the TT and Golf R32.

>>
>>28829486
In Australia, Hatches were called three door and five door to distinguish them from two door and four door models, which were sedans.Laser is based on the Mazda 323 Familia [BD}.
>>
>>28829413
It also received a Mk7-ish facelift but never got updated to MQB. During the last years of the Scirocco it was a strictly inferior car to the Golf that cost more money for no reason.

A shooting brake is exclusively a hatchback based off a grand tourer or sportscar

true that. My 2015 swift sport is just the best. Such a fun car.
