2002, 58k miles, interior looks very clean.
I don't currently own a car (don't need one since I work remote), but I'm somewhat tempted to buy something anyways. I was saving up for an rx-7 fd, but I won't be able to afford one for 2-3 years. Should I buy this in the mean time? How much is cost of ownership on these things, assuming light/weekend use?

$25k gets you into a ND2 with the same or less miles that won't need anything done to it. On the flipside the S2K will hold its value to an extent while the ND2 won't.
Its still a 25 year old Honda which means that even if its still fresh in terms of usage it has age catching up (soft top leaks, oil pan/timing cover/valve cover gaskets, radiator, clutch if the PO was retarded, brake or clutch slave if the PO never changed it, maybe tierods or rack and pinion).

I don't care if that's what they go for, I wouldn't pay that much money for a 25 year old entry level sports car that only costs that because it got internet famous and now all the "savvy" car people are willing to pay out the ass for one. Fuck that shit.

>the S2K will hold its value to an extent while the ND2 won't
This is a major concern as I'd be selling in a few years. I don't want to lose much money here. Of course what actually matters here is total cost of ownership, but since this would just be a leisure/weekend car (and only really in good weather), I doubt the reduced upkeep of an ND2 would be enough to offset the depreciation.
>>
If you buy it, you'll love it. That is, after you've repaired most of the things anon here >>28825269 has listed. As an owner though, I can honestly say that $25k is not worth it. 16-17 is the most I'd pay now, considering the extra I'd have to throw in repairs.
The FD is an even bigger moneysink and will become a liability even if you find it in pristine condition.

>>28825500
Ya bro honestly if you wanna drive it and sell it in a few years go for it, hondas are the best bet for that, you won't make any money on it though at that price unless something ridiculous happens to they're value
>>
>>28825264
Get an FD; same type car without the soft-top issues, better looking, engine reliability issues are a meme unless you take it to a retarded. (Note: The engine WILL fail before an s2k engine and it's more expensive to replace nowadays, but it won't leave you stranded if you maintain it properly).
These cars are old, so if you're after cheap performance you can just get something newer (eg. an 86 with a supercharger/turbo).
Non-mechanical parts for these cars are increasingly expensive/NLA, but 3d-printing and the aftermarket help.

I don't think you should get an s2000. You're speaking like it's a business transaction and trying to recoup ROIs and managing depreciating assets. The s2000 transcends that way of thinking. If it costs you 5k a year to maintain it then that's what it takes. An s2000 is an illogical business decision but a very subjective "I just like it" kind of car.

these go for the same price that a s2000 goes for.

Essentially your going to be giving $25,000 of your earned money to some random worthless fucking faggot. So you can finance his next project for him to actually have fun.
Meanwhile, you'll be out $25,000 in a 10 year loan with an 18% interest rate for the next 7 years of your life desperately trying to convince yourself your then somehow going to find and then spend ANOTHER $85,000 on some piece of shit guaranteed to break rotary engine Mazda from 1995. You're going to kill yourself jumping off a bridge and the cocksucker that sold you this 4 cylinder meme will be $25,000 richer.

>do corvetteniggers even drive cars?
They keep them garaged and babied, which is why old vettes are some of the best used sports cars to buy. You don’t really have to worry about them being tracked and thrashed since they’re rarely driven at all. They’re a lifestyle car for boomers who want to be in a the club.

The problem is "fun to drive" is an ineffable quality that is largely independent of stats other than "small" and "light", and the Corvette is pretty wide.
How many Corvettes do you see out there hooning compared to BMWs? Why is it that someone in a 200HP BMW will drive their car to the limit while someone in a 500HP Corvette is puttering along at 5 under the limit? Is it perhaps because the BMW is just more engaging to drive and makes it fun to go fast?
How many Teslas do you see doing stop light drag races and getting on the highway at 150MPH? When was the last time you saw anyone in a Tesla doing anything resembling "fun"? Teslas drive like appliances despite being able to do 0-60 in 3 seconds and they'll make you into a boring person. Its specs do not tell you this.
There's a reason people have always been willing to pay a premium for a base 911 over a Corvette. It's just a better driving car.
There's a reason car enthusiasts bemoan "lap times" as the end-all and be-all of automotive performance. Track performance rewards wide, long, and ultra-powerful cars which are boring and have to be driven with great restraint on the street compared to something that's small, light, and tossable and which can zip in and out of traffic.

If I could spend 50k on entertainment at the drop of a hat without saving I'd be looking at a GT3, not an FD. I mean come on, you'd have to make 7 figures+ (or be totally financially irresponsible) for that to be the case.
Really though, people oversell the maintenance costs of the car.

Because old shitbox BMW drivers are poor browns who have nothing better to do than drive like idiots on the street. Corvette people have money so are more risk adverse and have grown out of being asses on the street.
>>
>>28829402
Best performance numbers at every dollar value, stupid fun and great road presence, they go hundreds of thousands of miles and the drivetrain is inexpensive to work on because its in a ton of vehicles. Exotic sportscar performance with domestic maintenance costs.

>5-25k in running costs
That's an order of magnitude too high unless you buy a total shitheap and pay a shop to do everything. Even then you would save at least 20k off compared to a clean low mileage example.
Real running costs are like 2k a year. Maybe 5k tops. I don't know where you got 25k lol.
