Does driving the targa top with the top removed feel the same as the full soft top convertible? having the back section on the car looks way cooler, but i'd be worried about not having the full convertible experience

Not sure about Vettes, but while Porsche Targas look much cooler the convertible is superior in every possible way. Easier to handle, less leaks, less noisy when closed, much more open to the elements and so on

I only have experience with targa tops (del sol), you get the sunburn that comes with the convertible experience with about half as much wind blowing your hair around. Targa is better though, cause you don't have to fully commit and can pretend to be a hardtop.

I drive my C4 with the targa top off. Compared to my Metro convertible it has much less noise and wind buffeting but a similar "not locked into the car" feeling. I'd say it's 70% of the experience at 30% of the inconvenience.

i wouldn't mind a c5, but c4 (red interior) is my dream car. the higher struts on the floor make it even cooler imo

is getting out your screwdriver to bolt the top on every time it rains annoying?

in my experience t-tops and sunroofs often suffer from a weird vibration in my ears at higher speeds which is defined as this:
"Helmholtz resonance is a phenomenon where air in a cavity vibrates at a specific natural frequency when air is forced in and out, commonly observed when blowing across the top of a bottle."
I find it uncomfortable and would rather a full convertible.

It is a pretty poor turning circle for the size of the car (little under 40 feet), but it's only noticeable if you're trying to U turn on a narrow road. For comparison a Miata is a little over 30 feet, most economy cars (civic, corolla) are around 35, trucks are often 50-60 feet.
On the plus side if you turn traction control off it is very easy to spin the tires and turn around as sharply as you please.
I rarely have to do a U turn in traffic so it doesn't hamper the driveability at all.

That's interesting cause for me C4 is the ugliest generation, unlike C2 and C3 which are the most beautiful

In the past I’ve owned a couple of TR4a’s with Surrey tops - imho a much more pleasant driving experience. All the sensations, sights and smells of open-air motoring without the buffeting and back-draft parting your hair up the back.

is it possible to put the fully digital dials into a later c4 that has the mixed digital and regular dials?

I like them all up to the C7. 1955 is my favorite.

Probably true at highway or greater speed WITH windows down. At townie speeds its pretty mild but at 70 its like the wind is coming from every direction at once. But roll up the windows and its very mild.

I tend to waffle on the C3. It's a nice-looking car, but not as nice as what came before it, and it got uglier in the 14 years it was on the market.
I struggle to like the C8. It's just not styled to my taste.

also I find it interesting that the "most popular" C5 configuration is the ugly hardtop with the deformed, flat-ish looking back glass, and the least popular is the targa style with the sloped back glass.
unfortunately the targa is so rare i had no idea it existed. i love the C5 frontend but can't stand the deformed side profile of the convertible and hardtop. imo it makes the car look like a flat plant with a little cabin sticking up on top of it. It just looks too...flat.
if I had known about the targa model, I might've bought a C5 instead of a C6.

They made more coupes than convertibles in almost every year, the hardtop always trailing behind

That's a base Fixed Roof Coupe, you can tell by the lack of rear brake vents.

Talking about the "standard" hardtop C5 with the ugly rear, like the one in picrel. The one that basically looks like if you turned the soft-top into a hard-top. The targa looks different. It looks more like the C6.

There's only two ways to have the real convertible experience. This, or a Wrangler with the top and doors off. Nothing else comes close. I am not being hyperbolic.
Get the hardtop and stop fucking around with watered down compromises.

Yep. But it had a significantly stiffer chaser than the fastback so that's why it exists. The C5-R chassis is based on the FRC, but obviously with custom body panels they could also get the aero benefits of the fastback.
