back in 2012 you could buy an entire setup to convert your 600hp car to a built 700R4 for $1700 bucks. that includes the transmission, torque converter, lockup kit, trans cooler, TV cable, etc. adjust that for inflation and that would come to about $2400 now in 2026.
however this exact same kit from the same exact company now costs $4300. and i'm not just picking on monster, they're actually among the cheapest i can find. what the FUCK is going on.

i remember watching a youtube vid a while back, some guy named steve hamilton giving a tour of his house and cars. whole property was loaded with supercars parked everywhere. i had no idea who this guy was but like a minute into the vid he said 'i own a company that sells wheels'. was very eye opening for me.

also that's just one of his homes. this is his vacation home. from owning a company that sells wheels. they don't even make wheels mind you, they just sell them.

It's an easy calculation
The choice is selling 5 transmission kits for 4300 or 15 for 2400 at a cost of maybe 1500 per kit

Never, unless you live in a country like spain with an excess profits tax

Top 10% earners are responsible for about 50% of consumer spending at this point
The entire economy is currently shifting to cater to these people

Huh? I thought these were considered to be shit?

They are, despite the anon somewhere around here that claims to have gotten one up to high mileage. The pattern failures they're known for are the torque converter hub bushing seizing to the converter and ruining the front pump, sun shells stripping out splines/breaking off flanges, direct clutch burning up for no apparent reason (TSB for that even says that if everything in the trans checks out they're aware that the clutches burn up and they're looking into it and will issue a correction when they find the cause. There was never an update on that.) and the rear planetary gearset roller bearing exploding and basically taking out everything around it. Then there's all the random shit that can happen to a complex piece of machinery put together for bottom dollar. Then we get to the question of the wisdom behind the short First gear at 3.06 and the wide ratio jump to Second but i'll save that for others to go on about.

idk they will probably just stop at some point without anyone having to do anything or take any action
like how a dragon decides it's hoard is big enough and that it doesn't need to burninate any more villages

Never because consumerism preys on the most retarded and gullible. It's very easy to market even the biggest piece of shit to them because it's easy to convince them they need it. Unironically it all once again revolves around intelligence.

>junkyard F body T-56
They don't put cars with T-56s in the junkyard, retard, they take the engine and transmission out and sell it on ebay. I haven't seen an LS or even an aluminum block vortec in a junkyard in at least 10 years

90% of 700R4 failures are caused by hillbillies running them with missing or maladjusted TV cables. this is actually why TCI sells theirs nowadays with constant pressure valve bodies, they were sick of all the warranty claims from people fucking that up.

That's 13 years of 700R4's disappearing off the road. The market is smaller, the demand is less and the price goes up. At some point, the parts will become shittier, like buying a decent set of points or a carb rebuild kit - carbs disappeared thirty years ago and points, fifty.

A 4L80 is shorter ratio meant to be with a shorter axel, and has worse cruise but better for roads climbing up. The complaint is a tall first gear, which is bad for off the line power and off-road crawling. For everything else that problem climbing up in 700R4/4L60E overdrive can be solved with more bottom end power or less weight.
Basically 4L80 has no purpose in performance in anything less than 6000lbs and that's why it's cheaper.

My 4L80E with 3.73's does ~2500rpm at 85mph and has plenty of torque in 1st with 31.5'' tires in 4lo. Seems like a pretty good compromise between the two but ymmv I guess. OP was kind of talking about cars though. There are plenty of ~3000lb drag cars running 80's because they're so indestructible. A tall first gear can be an advantage in applications like that. Go take a survey of your local drag track. I bet you're going to find way more 4L80e's than 7000R4's.
Bulletproofing a 60 or 700 to be "acceptable" is no different than bulletproofing a Powerstroke 6.0 to make it usable. Just put that time and money into something already good and make it perfect lol.
