Race cars aren't the same as production cars anyway. They may have a different engine and chassis. A Top Gear lap unironically gives us more information about how fast a production car is than Le Mans that only shows race cars. A race that actually tells us something about production cars would be one that only allows production cars with minor changes, especially changed that make cars safer.
