I’ve had loads of them over the years and they are great if you don’t ever intend to drive on a motorway and have land of your own to rove. Even the later ones aren’t good at 60+. Apart from that they’re overpriced used, even on the UK market, and the Nu-Defender is honestly a better buy for most people in most instances
300tdi or a V8 in them (or even the Cummins/Mercedes sixes people drop in) will improve the day to day drivability but ultimately you’re still dealing with a very basic agricultural vehicle. By the end of their production run the only customers in big numbers were the utility companies and militaries. Once farmers were introduced to Isuzu/Toyota/Ford/Nissan pickups they largely voted with their feet. Lots of money for something that’s good off road and not much else, whereas Isuzu will sell you something equally good off road but for less money and with features like a heater that works and seals that seal

Spent a good chunk of my life watching my father fix these things and some key things I remember
>if its Lucas electric, get home before dark
>land rover will get you there, land cruiser will get you home
>your tool collection will be worth more than the Landy
Theyre typical British junk, poorly put together and a overpriced status symbol, however, I would still love to own one just to bop around my town.

Cause enthusiasts know what British means. That being said I would like one for shits and giggles.

Any farmer whos had one will tell you a landy can take a daily beating like no other. Also the fact they're pretty much amphibious is why the RNLI love them. Wrap the subframe in denso tape and keep using it to sail the sea.
