Priuses are almost the perfect “I don’t want a car but I still need to drive places” car.
right up there with hybrid civics and corollas, or nissan leafs if you can charge them at home.

they'e better than civics and corollas because you can sleep in them comfortably

It's an excellent commuter car. Cheap, reliable, great MPG. Basically the go-to for anybody who just needs a vehicle.

Hybrids are targeted because they eat up the cat less compared to regular ICE cars

Toyota Prius catalytic converters are worth like 2x a normal car.
That's why they are targeted.
My state basically defacto banned selling Cats on all levels.
That cut down on the car thefts a lot

They never should have switched from NiMH, no Prius owner cared that the lithium batteries could provide more power at lower weight.

The NiMH cells go bad as well. (not my pic, just an example).
One car I rebuilt the pack on had three nimh cells melted together.

No, priuses are targeted because to meet the low emissions standards Toyota wanted for them the converters have way more palladium than a normal one and that stuff is expensive

That and the lower emissions ICE stuff like Hondas also have OEM cats with tons of precious materials in em, I'm shocked my Accord hasn't had the cat stolen at this point.

02/04/26(Wed)07:02:05 No.28832345 They are the modern EF Civic but way nicer, much safer, stability control, more reliable, quieter. 3rd gens even look pretty good imo.
The trade off is soul crushing engine note that takes years to get used to, video game steering and no road feel.
Buy one, you wont regret it. It's a cool little car.

02/06/26(Fri)02:05:53 No.28834723 tbqh I like mine, Got a prius prime at a really good deal with tax credits back in 2021
It's a good reliable backup thats good on gas to use whenever something comes up on one of my other cars, and minimal cost to upkeep, prefer the hatchback format over a sedan too.
If you put a gun to my head now and said buy a prius, I'd rather save 20 grand and just get a used jetta tdi

A $1000 econobox does the same thing and saves you $39k.

Definitely, I bought an 06 back in july and have put about 14k miles on it so far. Only 1 minor issue that was like $200, oil changes and gas. 350 miles costs about $18

If a woman who lives in a shithot desert can get one completely unmaintained to last >160k miles you can get one to go over 250k.
The battery modules to achieve that lifespan are fairly inexpensive when factored with the fuel savings and cost of of half decent other car.
A reconditioned whole-pack that should give the car another 70k miles goes for about $1500 and takes a few hours to swap.
At 45mpg (city) the prius will recoup that cost by mile 35k compared to a 25mpg (city) car.
It's a slow, slow, slowwww piece of shit that shouldn't be driven faster than 60mph though.
>>28831832
The nihms are typically reaching EoL by 160-180k miles.

I actually have a cop friend that was lead car in a felony chase.
Passenger leaned out the window like that and lit up his car with an AR15. His car was hit a couple times but he was able to stay in the chase until they crashed.
If the dumbass had just started shooting through the rear windows my buddy would have been toast.
Luckily criminals are generally a bunch of retards.
