Yeah it was good to watch him again. I like this guy because he never asks for anything, and he is like a good old fashioned type family man. He is a typical example of why I would never give the Mormons any shit, I might not be like them but what could you possibly say is wrong here?

>brought his kids out for some of that shit
Yeah it's pretty bizarre when you start looking at a video about "Camping in -60F in Alaska" and watch the dude park his truck at the end of a road, grab his gear and all of a sudden a literal four-year-old child jumps out of the back seat. It's just so out of place. Unsettling.
Maybe the most dangerous thing I've seen him do is traverse an icy mountain face and a glacier with zero climbing equipment. Granted most of his winter solo stuff is dangerous by default.

when you see the child in the video you don't know how old it is exactly, but you can tell it's a small child of course, maybe 3-6 years old, something like that. you check the video description where it's written the child is four years old, confirming your assumption, there is no ambiguity anymore. so yes, he took a literal four-year-old camping in -60F in Alaska.

its not these posters fault this guy clearly has "last thing you see before your buried in a shallow grave face" He clearly would leave you to die in the woods to ensure his survival and justify it based on him being a father or something.

its all fun and games until it isn't. less then a month ago a guy less then an hour from me killed two young girls under 10 through his own hubris in his ability. If you are brining children under 10 into the woods you need to have atleast one more adult then children if not preferably multiple more. You simply will not beable to execute in an emergency situation without someone dying if you don't have an adult to handle each child.

luke literally grew up in alaska and has decades worth of experience in camping outdoors. and if you actually watched his videos you would know he has multiple emergency preparations for every video incase something goes wrong

I just don't appreciate people killing children. I live near a lot of lakes and someone essentially murders a child every year by doing something ridiculous such as being a solo adult with more then one child to take care of.

That's Mr Wallace to you. My mother does this too. She sits there watching some low key salesman on youtube acting like it's her friend. She'll even try to call them only by their first names. Oh I am just watching Katy she's blah blah blah. Noooo. You are watching somebody's vehicle for generating ad revenue and letting your brain feel like you're talking back.

who've /out/ been watching altely?
found this sub room temperature IQ retarded leaf recently and it's hilarious & entertaining how he's still alive

He's good entertainment, but excluding some generic advice he gives, he's a horrible source for actual camping/bushcraft source. He omits a lot of things and not to mention some of his shelters he builds are downright deadly if not setup properly. Multiple times he will build a roof out of dry leaves/branches and pine needles very close to a fire. I've also watched some of his snow shelters he digs out and those are also very very dangerous unless you've done a great amount of research on the area, you're well prepared and know exactly what you're doing you can end up buried or tramped by a large animal.

He knows what he's doing with those, he's been building them his whole life. He's able to recognize when the snow conditions are right for it.
There was also one video where he directly addressed the possibility of it collapsing, by standing on the roof and jumping a little bit. It held his weight. I mean yeah maybe if a moose or grizzly bear walked on top of it, it might collapse, but the odds of that are low.

I think what is missing from this thread, is he is rarely very deep in the bush and does most of his stuff near a vehicle or some kind of support system to get him. Along with always having a garmin device to send SOS, but yes it is still dangerous. However as others mentioned he is an actual Alaskan with decades of experience, a scout master, and has even been invited to participate in a military SERE program as a civilian. So I think he is plenty credentialed, and he is not a total gear queer about it. Uses the same clothes, equipment, and drives a fucking kia.

I call him Steve too. I have an ad blocker and Sponsor Block. I am subscribed but not a member. I have never and likely will never give Steve any money or buy anything with his coupon code, should he ever get one.

Again I'm not saying he's not good at what he does and he does make entertaining content. All I'm saying is he's a bad source for actual information on survival/camping/bushcraft. Yes HE might know what he's doing, but your average viewer doesn't. If someone tries to replicate any of his outings chances of getting hurt, getting buried, sleeping in a wooden shelter that catches on fire in the middle of the night or just getting injured and stranded are VERY high. He rarely goes over all the precautions and preparations he takes. Once again good entertainment, but just that.

Ultimately the reason his channel does so well is he's the average "domestic urbanite's idea of an outdoorsman" (in a similar vein to how Elon Musk is the average "dumb guy's idea of a smart guy"). He's a cottage microcosm of the broader outdoors reality entertainment industry; Bear Grylls, Survivorman, Mountain Men, etc. This isn't to say that he doesn't have legitimate outdoor skills, as do many of those others. It's "not fake" in the same way that pro wrestling is "not fake" - the physical abilities are often real and represent incredible feats of athleticism and choreography - but the storyline is fake. I bring up pro wrestling because they have had a word for this phenomenon for a long time: kayfabe - and I think it applies to a lot popular outdoors reality entertainment.
So I don't like this shit not because it's necessarily fake, but it's kayfabe.

>bro really talks about this like it's some sort of profound discovery of a secret
wow, what kind of secrets are you gonna reveal to us next? that the sky is blue? that water is wet? grow the fuck up man

I mean eating is the only relatable part of what hes doing so obviously you gotta make that a lot of the video for normies to care. He makes videos for people who have never left a trail you could push a wheelchair down.

Nope. Now he's officially part of Mormon leadership, And the cult is making him stop.
This isn't a joke. https://www.sltrib.com/religion/2025/12/10/outdoor-boys-youtuber-luke- nichols/
I'm also going to take bets that the YouTube channel is going to go down for a while, and all the videos are going to be re-edited. If not just permanently removed.

You need 2-3k calories. Of course you're gonna spend a ton of time cooking.
And food suplies are gonna last you only so long before you'll have to start finding food outdoors.
