need to know your geographic location, roughly anyways. but I'd advise reaching out to friends, family, or local assistance networks first. if that's not an option we can go from there. there's a lot of good resources online/youtube for how to live out of your car

Good luck. He didn't lie when he said You'll own nothing and be happy.

The location is not the problem. What are some essential tools
>>
>>2853606
Location does matter because winter is way more difficult than summer. Obviously get yourself a good bed set up, i use some high desnsity foam with memory foam on top. Get screens for the windows so you dont get to much rain/snow in the car while sleeping. If you can a charging/battery bank to keep your shit charged.
Why are you doing this anon?

Im living in my car rn but in uk whwre the winter is mild compared to other places. I get by with a sleeping bag and one of those square couch pillows.
You will need most of all pic related. The condesation that will gather up each morning after you sleep will cover all your windows with water(sometimes it eill literally drip down) and you wont be able to drive at will before wiping the water off.
I use cardboard/pizza boxes to put under my feet where i sleep plus on the doors on the side i sleep.
Covering your windows with something will help your long term psyche due to a feeling of privacy+light that gets amplified on condesed windows will not be a disturbance.
Either find a quiet spot or get some sound muffling headphones/earbuds.
Obviously lock the door before you to sleep.
If you can find home winter socks that dont cut the blood flow then you shpuld get them.

nope. in the grand scheme of things its easy to keep warm, its very difficult to get cool, so unless you want to die of heat stroke in your sleep, thats why the vast majority of car dwellers move north in the summer. ill take a low of 20, even 10 over a low of 75, 80, 85 every time.

These are really nice on cold mornings.
Put one in each jacket pocket.
They last around 8 to 10 hours.

It's just to cost of running it, but that does include depreciation I believe. Gas, insurance, taxes, parking fees, tolls, tickets, maintenance and repairs, ... it really does add up.
>Also hey may need it for work or something like that.
Need is a big word, unless he is a taxi driver.

>parking fees, tolls, tickets,
Totally optional. The average monthly cost is useless when budgeting for homelessness because of how far some people commute and how stupid many people's car choices are. Tax and title and insurance are time based recurring costs, but almost everything else is mileage based. If you don't have a history of accidents, a cheap, reliable, used car (eg 10 year old civic) with discount insurance can be as cheap as $300/year+ $0.38 per mile. The 38 cents per mile will include the depreciation, maintenance, tire replacement, etc (Average mileage cost is much higher, something like 73 cents, but that's because of the millions of people driving $70,000 pickups). Now, the average person does drive almost 14,000 miles per year, so as far as averages go, your "$500" figure is a lowball, actually, but it's also totally useless for someone living in their car, because what purpose does a homeless person have driving 38 miles per day? When they get into their car, they're home. They need to move from parking spot to parking spot periodically, go get food, and get to work, and they should be able to drive under 10 miles per day. If a Civic owner can keep his mileage down, we're looking at more like $140/month in this scenario, assuming he doesn't run the car for heat or ruin it in some other way.
Obviously, if you've got a record that makes you expensive to insure, or the car you bought before you became homeless was not as practical, then this estimate is a lowball, but a fully depreciated car or driving uninsured, etc etc can reduce costs as well.

I lived in a hyundai elantra for a while.
Find several safe places to park overnight: walmart, trailheads, industrial parks. Avoid the suburbs with nosy neighbours. If the cops give you shit just be polite and move on.
Stay warm: good sleeping bag, pad, long johns, hot water bottle, hand warmers etc
You need a place to shower: school, work, gym
You need to be able to cook/not live off takeout: small camp stove or electric pot, cooler, dishes, dish soap and water
Bathroom: outdoors if you're not in town other wise public restrooms during the day and piss jugs in the car at night.
Figure out where a convenient laundromat is.
I always kept a few of those reuasable grocery bags around for things like dirty laundry.
Boredom: when it's your downtime don't just sit and stare at your phone in the car. Get a book, go for a walk, go to the gym etc. You'll go crazy.
Don't drain your car battery with a million gadgets if you're not driving regularly. If you can plug stuff in somewhere get a trickle charger.
Always have some extra water, soap, hand sanitizer, rags and towels around. Stay organized. Be respectful of where you are, no mess or noise or people will call the cops on you.
During warmer months I won't go camp on weekends and in the colder months I would very occasionally get a hotel room for a night. Just for the proper sleeping position and comforts.
Stay safe out there anon.

what's the best affordable car to live in?

12v horse shower, or get a 12v pressure washer off temu. Bucket of hot water and a shower head. I used the latter on lengthy field studies until a deer saw my penis so I just stopped showering outdoors for the rest of it.

Optional.
Have had a car for 18 years, have paid parking and tolls for a total of...4 times, 2 each thing.
>maintenance and repairs
Especially maintenance, do your own, buy parts on the interwebz.
Actual repairs can be a bit harder, but do the best you can.
But then again...I'm not American.

No thanks Im not retarded. Here is your issue with the "average cost".
Im living in my car in uk and drive around dekivering food 10 hours a day and even i dont reach 500 money per month on coats.
