Can you help me pick retired army gear for hunting, /out/?
Reason is that I tried looking for hunting clothes and they were seemingly expensive and really shitty, mostly made from >80% plastics. I remember back when I was young and would buy them for cross country hacking, uniforms were decent almost all cotton or polyester with cotton lining in the least and not too pricey. Other than that ripstop weave, good pocket size and distribution amongst other things. Even the buttons/zips were huge which would be a huge boon with gloved fingers.
So I'm wondering if anyone happens to know off-hand which winter gear is semi-effective camouflage that isn't in current use?

sad gay posts made by men who chug cum.

its not larping if you are hunting. If you are dressing like a hunter and not hunting you are indeed a massive homosexual.

Having a hard time tracking what it is you’re looking for. Are you looking for sources of milsurp or are you looking for milsurp like stuff/replicas?
As far as winter camp for hunting, unless you’re hunting birds, camo really isn’t that important as long as you’re not wearing bright colors. That said, j just wear a white anorak wind breaker over my actually insulating layers.

you might get shot wearing this, but comfort is unmatched
around 160$ of rabbit-fur clothes
incredibly lightweight, a very comfortable warmth, almost like you're covered in a the feeling of a cat sitting on your lap

it consists of these items;
collar/shawl
poncho
sleeveless jacket
a series of rabbitskin gloves DIYed into sleeves
the sleeves and sleeveless jacket aren't attached, so you end up with free armpits which airs out the whole outfit when moving, but keeps it warm and air-tight when not moving

Just get whatever milsurp is available/cheap that fits you.
Dont worry about what pattern/color it is.
Then buy Rit Dye thats in a color shade for whatever environment you plan to use it in.
I did about a dozen sets- started with colors for different seasons (deep green for spring, brown for autumn) then got bored and did shit like a blue set and a red set (for pic related).

Picrel is the only milsurp worth buying. I'll also entertain arguments in favor of wool blankets.

>mostly made from >80% plastics
The overwhelming majority of surplus is nylon cordura or ripstop or other flavours of plastic. This is because plastic is objectively better for military use cases. It pretty much has been this way since the 90s but not sure when it trickled down to surplus stores.
Also most technical surplus (e.g. not larp) is just over-priced now.

Rhodesian uniform quality was not very good, sort of unrelated but just to point out. Camouflage t-shirts were exceptionally common, all other uniform bits are typically very thin fabric (no not just "but it's coz muh Africa"). Dyes fade easily and misprints/poor QC are common.

If you can get over "muh plastics".
SADF nutria brown field trousers are great, all SADF surplus pretty much is a really nice thick nylon cordura kind of fabric. They're a bit overpriced from most vendors now though. They were good when they were $30(ish).
Austrian surplus is generally good, so is Dutch stuff from the 1960s/70s (can't speak for later stuff) and has little plastic use.

Similar but more focused question, anyone know of any good modern parkas/smocks/jackets in SS camo? I’m not sure whether I want Erbsenmuster, Eichenlaubmuster, Platanenmuster, or Rauchtarnmuster. It just being a decent jacket or parka would probably be the deciding factor, I’d like it to be practical so I don’t want an actual repro.

you can see my t-shirt/armpits become exposed to the air when moving my arms, it's nice so your clothes don't get sweaty and you get some fresh air when moving
i also have some sheepskin pants, fur underhat and overhat but couldn't be bothered putting them on
just random stuff I found over the years put together into a fur outfit

don't get me wrong a single layer of rabbit skin won't keep you warm through the night but it is very lightweight and lofty, my wool sweater weighs more than all these rabbitskin clothes combined and I'd rather be stranded in the cold with the rabbitskin outfit than the sweater
