I saw your post about talking to actual humans, and the draw of being part of a madcap historical anomaly instead of watching it from the outside.
It made me think, which I appreciate. It's so rare to encounter a new thought. I don't want to convince anyone, I just want them to expand my mind, but I am usually disappointed too.
I wish you well on your journey. Enjoy the time to think.

Started day two, got a later start than I would of liked to, had some complications with the water filter, broke one of the sqeaze bags, think the terian will be easier today mostly walking thru washes, the goal is to reach a campground with a water faucet, that some kids told me is up trail, I have two cans of tuna, four instant noodles and a bag of couscouse, this must hold me out untill I reach the town of be'er ora probably some time tomrow or the day after, pic is last night's grub two cans of tuna mixed with couscous

You must add more calories to your diet, if you think you're gonna make 1000km on a deficit you better be 200kg of fat and muscle.
See if you can load up in town, meats, oils, carbs, and get some dried meats too and good Intel on water ahead, faucets can be broken and springs can be shitted up.
Sorry man I don't mean to be a sad cunt, you know your situation better than anyone. Just look after yourself :)

Yesterday I saw two ibex yesterday, I noticed one eating from a tree as I approached it went and sat in the shade of a rock, I tried to get closer for a better pic and when I did a second ibex I did not see jumped down from an acacia tree

I made it to the kibutz bought food, some one brought me back to their house made me a burger, offered me a shower and a place to sleep tonight, told me he has a 4x4 and would drive me back to my camp tomrow after prayers also said I could come back for shabbat, my camp is three miles away, it is just past ten thirty at night and it is raining, hopefully it dose not get flooded out, I'll probably sleep on their couch tonight and move my camp closer to the kibutz tommorow, will stay in the vicinity untill after shabbat and then get back heading north

This is the path, I started at the beging in eilat I hope to make it all the way to the border with Lebanon, some of the terian is quite extreme, and weather is a factor it can get very hot here, today was fairly easy mostly just walking thru washes

those squeeze filters suck ass. idk how people deal with them, they're slow as fuck and the bags are annoying as hell to fill and it takes forever. i accepted the weight of a pump filter after trying out a squeeze to save weight.

What do you do with the sunlight?, do you walk a few kms and rest in a shadow to cool yourself, you pour water on your head constantly or what do you do? Because I've walked under the sunlight and just after like 1 or 2 hours the hot is too much for your head and body in general. Specially if there is little wind.
>>
>>2866289
from the pics it looks like it's all well marked trails and you talk about finding people and staying with them and so on. and the things you highlight seem a bit dumb like the ibex, and other things idk. don't take it seriously
i never understand these long hikes, they don't seem worth it at all for me. and that environment looks pretty boring but i've never been there so nevermind. and even when i'm doing things that i myself consider boring, at the end of the day it always ends up being fun
i hope you carry a lot of water as reserve always. i usually take 1l but i've never been in a desert

It took me over 30 minutes to fill up 6 liters filter got clogged and one of the bags popped on me, onwilmhabe to find an after market part to optimize it, I'm thinking to use an empty bottle in place of the bags in the mean time, but it will be a while untill I use it again, not a lot of springs in the Negev
>>2866311
>skills about desert travelling
Yes but it all common sense stuff, when your walking in a wash try to stay towards the side of it on slightly higher ground were the soil is former you walk faster and with less effort on hard pack ground vs the soft sand, it's also not good to walk on the heat of the day best time for traveling is early morning and late after noon, mid day is a good time to stop and eat lunch in the shade
>ever else.
Clothing is very important you want to cover as much of your skin as possible, loose well breathing clothing is essential, I just bought two white long sleeve dry fit shirts to wear when I get back on the trail, if i learn anything else I will tell you
>>2866323
Honestly In the heat of the day walk like 15 minutes then take a short break then walk another 15 minutes and so on, I take it slow I am in no hurry

Ooh, interesting, a 5000 BC stuff, and excavated by Avner, good archaeologist; will have a fun time reading about it..
also, while you're walking, are you noticing some ceramic potsherds? those are a big deal for us archaeologists, they're literally indicators of past human activities (imagine it was past people's plastic, they would use it everywhere)
also N2 and fun fact, I noticed in some of your photos some aligned stones in a specific shape (circular i.e.); those could be the trace of some ancient settlements; basically, you're standing in the same place where some past/anon/s stood and did their life like you and me; just imagine how they would live, will mindblow you, guarantee it..
if you're interested, I do have some good references about them

>are you noticing some ceramic potsherds?
I have not found any pot shards or artifacts of any kind , I have seen some unnatural rock formations but Its hard to tell how old that stuff is, often time I wonder how people could survive in such places back then and think they must have been more lush in the past, this is the valley were the archeological site is located and as you can see it is covered in grass, every were else around it for long distances is moonscaped,i will look over Amy references you want to post and if I find anything cool I will share it here

I see; in such cases, it's precisely with those sherds that you can tell in general the age (there are other methods, but those imply some more serious work & funding, like palaeobotany)
Back then (~~5000 BC to c. 600 AD), the weather was a bit wetter, effectively, but it was still not as good as to have enough water for agriculture (minimum 250 ml/year); that's why people there would be what we call semi-nomadic people, going and staying at a certain place then moving back somewhere else: for example, from the arid Timna to the relatively more humid and welcoming Faynan (this precise example bc of the copper ores; take some photos if you find some, they were and are a pretty important feature of the Arabah valley historically speaking)
on another note, you may notice some stone structures that were water reservoirs, but those came a bit later in time (more Iron Age-y iirc, need to double-check)
as for some nice evening readings (now that it's 21:07) about the region/Arabah valley during ancient times, I could recommend "Archaeology and Desertification: the Wadi Faynan Landscape Survey, Southern Jordan" (open access on Jstor https://www.jstor.org/content/oa_book_edited/j.ctv307fh28 ) and "New Insights Into the Iron Age Archaeology of Edom, Southern Jordan" (https://files.catbox.moe/xg5ny7.pd f)
PS- if you pass by Timna, go have a look, really nice place, particularly if a real archaeologist explains you about the site; in this matter, if Erez Ben Yosef is there, he's a pretty nice gentleman and one of the directors of excavations there (he has some of his lectures on YT, would also recommend), say hi to him, from the part of an archaeo/anon/ that admires his works (and that for now, couldn't communicate with him because of legal reasons...)

oh, glad to see you still remember me, cheers & good luck
Just be cautious when you get to the north of the country, for obvious reasons (but if you do get there, Tell Dan is a must; iirc, some other archaeological sites are there too, so you can enjoy some good trip in the Past cumulated to your trip in space)

for a starry night, you have to put on a very long exposure length of time; for that, you have to select the "pro" version (as in professional camera; it's where you change from simple photo to video or panoramic etc)
and on another note, a little video that could interest you (maybe) concerning some of the discussion above:

oh, interesting that you've seen the video before, you've done some research; great!
and good job for the multiple kilometres! don't tire yourself too much though, fren , take care of yourself eh

and my guess that it's pretty recent: the window squares are still there + very sloppy stone masonry; compare with the Nabatean building, where it's cleaner, even though 2k years passed by...
