Had anyone got tips on how to find less popular content?
The algorithm is just feeding me terrible tiktok reels with millions of views all day long.

Oh, I thought you were talking about reels. You can influence your algorithm by sharing and interacting with the content you like. I've found that DMimg someone content is pretty effective if you want to train your algorithm to see similar content.

Spooky that IG really does read your messages. I know it's Meta and all that, but damn.
>>
>>4426545
They know all crazy sorts of shit. They even have systems for gauging attention. I take advantage of it to watch funny racism videos and people hurting themselves.
Were you on insta when the reels were all just gore? Crazy couple days.

>Were you on insta when the reels were all just gore? Crazy couple days.
No, I use a browser version since I'm trying to avoid everything Meta, so I never see reels thankfully. I keep IG for social reasons and not knowing where else to share photos (besides /rpt/ threads).
>>
>>4426544
Huh, that's unexpected.
I have just tried to hide content and like stuff, but it foesn't really help. 95% of my feed is reels.
Reels about photography, to be sure, but I don't want any of it. I just want to see photos, and preferably from smaller users.

I don't think anyone is actually exposed to photos on instagram anymore. I never ever see photos in my feed, despite trying to force the algorithm.
Is there any good alternative to instagram?
I used to use 500px about a decade ago
>>
>>
>>4431779
I still see plenty, but that's probably because I only follow people that post photos and not reels. Nobody I know posts reals and will at most post a video on their story, but that's it.
>>4431800
I still do but their ability to actually do anything is nerfed. You used to be able to tag something and get dozens or hundreds of likes with not many followers, but now it doesn't do anything. Maybe the userbase has shrunk or maybe it just doesn't work anymore, I don't know.

Okay, serious question - should I make Instagram account if I simply upload stuff to my own site, running on Wordpress? When I was doing photos at anime convention some time ago, many people asked me for Instagram or how to "tag" me on social media, one performance group suggested making IG account because they considered my photos really good. Then again, I'm a bit afraid of this whole "war against algorithms" and tons of guides about how to upload, comment and post on IG to avoid being pushed into oblivion by IG.
>>
>>4454419
>I'm a bit afraid of this whole "war against algorithms" and tons of guides about how to upload, comment and post on IG to avoid being pushed into oblivion by IG.
why would any of that matter? just make an account as a way to meet people where they're at and funnel them to your actual website

Don't care about algorithms, just use it for sharing and being happy if it does get seen by chance. If you're doing anime conventions and all that, an IG is absolutely essential, since they will follow you on it and word of mouth can help your page spread further.

Is instagram the go to place for photographers? I'm an old fashioned flickr guy myself. You can't do hashtags on insta can you? Like on twitter if I wanted to look up cosplay photos from comiket, I can search for it. Does instagram have something similar?

Literally none of us are famous. No one here is above 5k. In whole /p/'s history I have seen only 5 accounts above 10k and 3 above 20k. And all of them were oldfags.
Alex Burke has like 40k followers
Henri Prestes has 250k plus followers
It feel like impossible to gain a following on insta these days, like that ship has been sailed long ago.

You are still craving attention even if that is your mother. I am just more honest about my desires. People don't take you seriously as an artist if you don't have followers on Instagram. This is a sad fact but it is a fact.

If you think that followers don't matter in current year you are literally retarded. When you contact the photobook publishers they ask you what kind of audience do you have. If you want to go anywhere you need to have followers or at least an account with high engagement on top on having skills.
>the arts make a shitty refuge for it
Crazy because my art when on steroids after I developed mental illness.
>>4463518
This is how it works these days. You need to have talent and then you also need to have a following. If you have both then it is easy as shit to get fashion gigs. Agencies will contact you. Even if you approach them with a heavy account they will prefer you over others.

>>4463518
I've used my IG as an unofficial portfolio to send off for photography companies, but I've never been approached as a result of having one. I'm not sure the algorithm even really works well at promoting people anymore.
>>
Okay, maybe it's stupid question but - how people are expected to use Instagram? Various people tells me it is absolutely essential so I guess I will have to make account after all. But what to put in it? I upload galleries of my photos at private site so I guess I should put 5-10-15 "best of" photos from such galleries when I upload one and provide link? I'm sorry but I never used IG and have barely even experience with FB or other social media.

I guess it's good place to ask - I made account after being suggested to do so by numerous people but Instagram behave odd. First my account was blocked around 2 hours after creation, demanding phone number to unlock. No big deal, have them one, pasted code received, everything was fine. Next day, when I added some profile pic, short bio info and started adding some example photos, account was again blocked, this time demanding, along with phone number again, selfie photo. After an hour, account was unlocked again but I'm not seriously afraid of doing anything with it. Also, tried to actually follow some accounts but after clicking "follow", button would change to "invitation sent" and still remains so next day. Could it be that I'm somehow still banned or something?
>>
>>
>>4466921
Last time I asked /g/ I got rant about how I shouldn't use any kind of social media and all associated talk about freedom, invigilation, resisting the system (I want to show people my photos, for fuck sake, if cosplayers/event organisers insist on having such account for communication, then I'm going to make one solely for that purpose), free software and all that. Contrary to what they expect, people won't "react with respect" for using Mastodon instead of IG and "I didn't made account yet" is more socially acceptable than "it's all one, big conspiracy, we should only use open source alternatives!".

Kek, I also went full privacy schizo after lurking on /g/. But I discovered quickly that it is a lost battle for artists. Instagram is our need.
Maybe try from another email and a different IP address. Also use chrome browser without any privacy settings.
>>
>>
>>4466975
Thing is, I specifically used same email as with Facebook (which I had to make anyway year ago) and separate browser profile with disabled any anti-tracking stuff, as vanilla as it can get. In theory, I could link both accounts but then I could risk getting both disabled (so far, Facebook didn't complain).
>>
>>4466921
It's because of new age verification laws, as some countries have made it so that people under 16 can't use social media and now people have to verify they're old enough to use social media. For the US though, where they're fighting back against it, Zuck is just using it to tie your face to everything you do on Meta services.
There are different bypasses in progress like using AI face filters for verification but I don't know enough about tech to do something like that or provide any guidance.
>>4466975
You can minimize how much shit Meta gets. I use it through a VPN and a browser with a very generic fingerprint. I don't have the app on my phone either and use the browser version. It works like shit on purpose but the app is extremely invasive and I don't recommend installing it on your phone if you care about privacy.
>>4466990
If you have a Facebook that has your photos on it already, there's no loss in linking them and doing the face verification then. It's already a lost cause at that point.
>>
>>
>>4467256
>but the app is extremely invasive and I don't recommend installing it on your phone if you care about privacy
Meanwhile those assholes blocked some options in web version like adding links. Sure, I can just paste address of my private site as plain text but still.

I must say - after that "adventure" with IG being blocked twice after I made account, I'm honestly afraid of posting anything or even posting account name here. moved to norway in december, so it’s mostly just pictures of norway. still looking at things like a tourist. i think my pictures from america are better.
>>
I had a question I was going to ask on /sqt/ but this seems related enough to me.
I'm borrowing a DSLR camera for the time being and I started uploading my pics to an instagram account where basically only 4 or 5 people I know IRL check them out frequently (including the person I borrowed that camera from, I think that was their purpose to begin with)
IG compresses pictures to shit and it isn't great for showing pictures at full resolution either. So that got me thinking: If I got a new camera for myself, should I even give a fuck about how sharp my images are if I can't even take proper pictures in the first place? I've been looking at pricey DSLR cameras and some mirrorless shit out there, but wouldn't it be better as a starter to look for something more convenient instead of something with an image quality no one's going to even be able to notice?
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4470960
Something to keep in mind is that quality that is displayed can change in the future and you can always lower quality but not get it back. So if you ever take some photos you love and have them in shit quality, they're shit quality forever.
You can also get higher quality pictures on Instagram if you start with smaller images. So if you compressed the photo yourself to say 500x500 and used 95 quality, it will pretty much be that when you upload it.
>>
>>
>>
>>
IG is dead for creatives. By posting there, you give license to AI to reference to generate further slop. I don't know how photographers can share work online anymore without it feeding an AI. This is like we are back in the 1910s.
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>4478604
True but everyone expects you to have it. I was using just my private site for years but recently noticed that nobody enters it as visits dropped significantly. Likewise when photographing for cons and such, nobody would share link to my site on social media (I assume that FB/IG don't like external links at all and either block it outright or "shadowban" posts with them) and every single person I would interact with would ask me for IG for contact/sharing/authorship.
It's a bit of sad, actually.

>>
What is the best export setting for this piece of trash website? It burled the fuck out of my photos. I uploaded them from website and they were fine but phone they look like they were taken on a fucking potato FUUUUCCCK
>>
>>
>>4488784
That's not due to any export setting.
Instagram often just likes to not show the full (Instagram) resolution of images when you view them. Sometimes it "pops in" after a short while, but it has nothing to do with your local connection. It is insta deciding not to give your images bandwidth.
>>
>>4488784
I had the same problem. Instagram seems to be optimized for phones (as it was originally designed to be a platform for phone pictures) So if you use high format pictures those appear bigger and in higher resolution on the phone. Anything else will get compressed to shit and only be shown very small naturally.
