I used to build lightsabers from those and the longer paper towel tubes as a child
or medieval fortresses by cutting squares along one side with scissors

toilet paper tubes were one of the stock items of the old BBC kids entertainment show Blue Peter.
They'd do a how-to build something pretty often, and it'd be made of stuff you had at home like cereal boxes, egg cartons, plastic bottles, etc.

One year when I was young, they did a how to build the island from Thunderbirds because that thing was the hot christmas toy of the year and it was out of stock everywhere.
