it's amazing how wasteful these things are and how they never use the space for anything at all
instead of just getting a 500 abarth
that's because people are low metabolism moss
it takes high metabolism and skill to whip a 500 around the twisties. it requires life

Idk why people buy SUVs. It must be that they imagine using it in a tactical manner. Same with the jacked up trucks. They must be imagining scenarios of smashing into other cars and running them off the road with the force of their bigger vehicle.
They're the worst and most aggressive drivers too with their very heavy vehicles.
I always imagined a cool vehicle as being a racecar type car but other people have other ideas of big tires and driving off the road.
For me, it's speed and good handling.

It's indecision.
Like the young first time buyer creating the same thread on /o/ we've seen ten thousand times they want a car that can carry a lot of cargo but isn't too big, that is safe but also a bit sporty, that can seat everyone but gets good mileage, and can go offroad a little but is good on the road too. Well this is what you get.
Indecision is a female trait so I'd say OP is correct. The reason manufacturers are doing it is because women control the money and make up the majority of new car purchases.

Big car rises self esteem.
For millennia people in power sat themselves high to look down at serfs. It's subconscious thought process high-lower = master-slave

This car looks like shit and I'm tired of pretending otherwise. There are plenty of angular cars that look way better, such as the Diablo, Countach, Fiat Coupé, Lotus Esprit V8 and even the new Hyundai concept

It's doesn't matter what is substance.
It's about feels. When you sit high and looking down you feel empowered. Most people don't analyse that, this just "feels good" sitting in SUV high and looking down at low sedans. This is why people buy SUVs it feels good.

The V6 ecoboost doesn't have a wet belt, it's chain driven. The only ecoboost with wet belt timing is the 1 litre
Some others use wet belts for the oil pump but they aren't under any stress compared to the timing belt so they don't fail

How is it wrong? Dudes build their own computers, dudes buy used cars, dudes don't buy groceries, don't give a fuck about visiting the doctor, don't buy SSRIs and ozempic, would live in a cabin in the woods or a warehouse in the city if their wife didn't make them buy a McMansion in the burbs, would rather drive to a camp site or take no vacation at all if their wives didn't make them go to the amalfi coast or Costa Rica or some shit, have brokerage accounts and the bank account they used since they were 18... what stands out as retarded about it?

what your'e describing is not 'normal' that's a highly highly conditioned view or mental model that's very "serf"-like

Its completely normal subconscious reaction. See

If I had the money for it I'd get one for certain, it's not without its flaws but is the best modern take on the concept. It seems to be priced for men who already have their shit together.
Older Defenders are much more affordable, but aren't really for casual/daily driving. Would be a shame to just use it for grocery runs and a rare light off-road.

Okay here's an example. My wife bought half a gallon of milk for $5 one time because it came in a glass bottle and I almost broke it over her head. A gallon of milk for $10? I could buy three gallons for that price. She's spending three times as much as me simply because she's a dumb broad.

Looks spacious enough. I'd worry about small ground clearance and wheel wells, would need a lift kit to not have to worry about snow. Then again, UK probably doesn't see much of it these days so that's not an issue.

then becky needs a taller suv with brighter LEDs than samantha, so GM asks the government for a few more million $ of your tax money to make a slightly taller SUV.

its all extremely weird
also another bluff, idk if u guys saw my calling their bluffs thread this morning,
another bluff is that people are violent or warlike by nature
i call bunk on that as well
it's completley weird to look down on people form an suv, i think that's just marketing because ultimately that's a "worrying about other peopel are doing" mentality
and thats not healthy
when you're zooming around in a car on the twisties, you'r eworried about yourself, not looking down on someone from a stupid dumb truck like a fuckin ginsect

It stands to reason that if all other cars are SUVs and you're looking for something that is more survivable in a collision, another SUV is the better choice compared to something smaller like a smart car.
This can lead to a bit of an arms race (as shown by the modern American trucks being huuuge compared to their predecessors) but it is what it is.
Better visibility is still a major factor too. You see obstacles from further away and overall feel more confident sitting higher up.
The downside on SUVs with higher center of mass is that they roll more easily, of course, and soccer moms do tend to overreact, so that sounds like a valid argument against SUVs.

>Better visibility is still a major factor too. You see obstacles from further away and overall feel more confident sitting higher up.
Truck and SUV's classified as trucks have worse visibility to anything near 'em. To extent that burgers are now driving over their own kids on their own driveway like 3 times more often than in 80's when people used to have actual cars. I guess that is natural selection in practice. People stupid enough to buy SUV's and pick ups remove their offspring from evolution. I guess those post birth abortions improve humanity.
Also, there are more dead people when two 3.5 ton SUV's collide than there would be if those colliding vehicles would be about 1.5 ton cars.

my mom used to have the predecessor, the Explorer Sport and it was a blast to drive. She offered to give it to be but I already had 2 cars and when she overheard me telling my dad I might just sell it it after a bit if given to me she sold it lol

>To extent that burgers are now driving over their own kids on their own driveway
Having driven a sedan before and a 00s crossover now, I find that it's easier to see over the hood in the latter, and you have a more precise feeling of the car's dimensions which comes in handy when executing tight maneuvers, probably due to the boxier shape.
While the front end of the car is higher positioned, so is the driver, so it evens out.
> their own driveway
That's what parking sensors are for.
> 3 times more often than in 80's
Correlation does not equal causation. 80's America was also much whiter.
Either way, no reason to repeat the argument re: American trucks to me, I am literally the one who'd brought it up in the post you are replying to.
>Also, there are more dead people when two 3.5 ton SUV's collide
Do you see 3.5 ton SUVs often?
