That was right around when the TV deal for Main Event ran out and they were trying to get it renewed last minute. It's called Main Event because the opening match would be the main event but that gimmick was dropped very fast. After the TV deal ended it just became a way for WWE to evaluate guys and make some money out of it. There's a reason Main Event to releases is a thing. Joaquin Wilde is being evaluated.

Alpha Academy have been on Main Event like.. a fucking lot and they're back on the main show now. Sometimes you just fill out Main Event until the writer's room has a spot for your storyline again.
