All 50 US states have a law requiring drivers to yield to emergency vehicles with sirens on. If you hear a siren you're meant to stop before the intersection until it's clear. Ultimately it's the responsibility of the cop to drive safely but they can ticket you for not giving them the right of way

They heard the sirens but sirens in real life can sound like they're coming in front of you, behind you, to your left or to your right and aren't distance specific since they're so loud.
