Multiplication is the strictification of products (Cartesian products) in the category of finite sets. Addition is the strictification of coproducts (disjoint unions) in FinSet. Exponentiation is the strictification of the exponential object (set of functions from one set to another). Basic stuff, anon.

Addition is group with identity equal to 0
Multiplication is group with identity equal to 1
You never described what you mean by bias anywhere in your post so assume the bias is towards working with 1 than 0.
