What is the general consensus on transhumanism/posthumanism? With developmental leaps in the fields of nanotechnology, biotech, biocomputing, AI/AGI and quantum computing, does the possibility of a transhumanist or even posthumanist world have any basis in reality? Could this be the next stage of human evolution? Or the end of it?

I don't know about "consensus" and I don't think "consensus" even means anything in this virtual reality, but what's to stop the global oligarchy from building as many computing centers as they need to train huge statistical models to pick up on humanly incomprehensible patterns in humanly incomprehensible data sets? What's gonna stop them from figuring out specific ways to manipulate the human genome and creating hyper-intelligent slave savants? That's already transhumanism.
