Not American, but I want to do a road-trip in the near future. Got family that have done it and they recommended the South/South-West as the best places for it.

Honestly there's not a whole lot. I'm sure there's a lot of civil war stuff but I couldn't tell you where. I don't know much about it. Some of the smaller towns have a unique charm, and the people are polite. Jackson is the capital and even then there's not much around. You can visit everything worthwhile in a weekend and that's rough for a state capital

You gotta hit Vicksburg and Natchez at least. They are pretty dope towns but not really good for more than a day or two of exploration, but you can have a fun day or two out there. Yazoo city if you're looking for some super niche shit.
