As an Illini fan I’ve always thought Memorial Stadium in Champaign Illinois merited more dramatic renovations given our B1G status within the conference and the history against powerhouse teams such as Ohio Stare, Michigan, Northwestern and now rising star in the conference Indiana. Even though the U of I is located a couple hours south of Chicago in central Illinois I still feel as though it’s become a flagship school for our state and is turning out more impressive talented players.
Adding the largest scoreboard in college football is a pretty sweet addition to our stadium of 60,000 strong DESU. At over 17,000 square feet, Illinois' will be the largest in college football by nearly 7,000 square feet over Auburn who has the second largest scoreboard in college football.

Anon you can stfu.
Illinois football has been getting really good these last few years. We ain’t a joke no more. Look at Indiana and Curt Cignetti. He opted to stay AT Indiana despite all the other big offers given by bigger college football schools. Indiana for generations in the B1G was a cupcake team in football. No one ever thought they’d get good or took them seriously. Both Northwestern and Purdue have won some B1G conference championships in recent years. Why doesn’t Illinois have a chance?
I paid a premium for tickets with my dad to sit at the 50 yard line 2 rows behind Illinois and Bret Bielema at the Indiana Illinois game this year in Bloomington. It was the largest attended Indiana football game in their history and my Dad and I never got so much trash talk by Indiana fans that day. To see Mendoza as an Illinois fan only yards away was an experience I’ll never forget. Walking back to my car after we just got our asses handed to us I walked past a frat house with a white sheet draped over their house mocking Bielema painted with the words “Bielema has more chins than wins.” That was pretty funny. When they played Indiana earlier in the season I knew Indiana was dangerous. Even as Illini fans getting our asses whooped like that, seeing the eventual National Champions play in person was so worth it…
Bret Bielema is a good coach and for Illinois he is the perfect seed to generate a consistent higher standard of success for Illini football who remained a doormat for years.
